and wear a mask, social distance and haven’t really seen family and friends, where do you think you got it?

If masks work then how is it being transmitted?

Re: Those that got Covid

We don't have it, but we are carful just like our neighbors and their daughter got it in school from another student.
We were all contacted that a kid on the bus had it so all the kids were tested and were negative.
Her other daughter said she was exposed in class and 5 days later she tested positive. No symptoms or anything.

Re: Those that got Covid

Did you go to a gym? What kinds of places did you or your immediate family go to? We did not get covid, but for us, we do only grocery delivery, and walks around our neighborhood. We did not go anywhere until we were vaccinated.

Wow I am shocked as these kids wear masks all day and many are behind shields. Most kids are not spreading at school but outside activities.

No Covid over here but know some and they say they don’t know but for people who say they don’t have contact with others you wonder how they got it then.

Simple it’s a virus and masks do a good job of limiting the spread they don’t eradicate the virus. Unless you are locked in a bunker 24/7 with no contact with the world, chances are you will get the virus. Heck, they are saying there’s a chance you can get it with the vaccine.

it can linger in the air for a bit. you can think you're alone and take off your mask... someone was there just prior to you and you inhale it.

it really is luck of the draw.
you can think that your circle is safe, but someone can interact with a person in your circle and expose them.

masks aren't perfect, but they reduce the risk by an incredible amount. i know that i have not been perfect in my behavior in the last year. i know i have been very lucky to not get it.

Exactly, my husband worked for over a year before he got it and I’m talking non stop, even at the height of the death vector.

Eta: people are so consumed with putting shame to this virus. Like gtfo here already. When I got it they tried to blame my husband and find the cause. I had to shut them down, it’s a virus, we’re fine, what we are not going to do is try to make my DH feel like sh!t for supporting his family.

My husband, son and I had it last March, 2020. I believe he got it at work and brought it home to us. He works in Hempstead and that was one of the first hot spot areas for Long Island.

My 21 year old daughter who has been living at home never got it.

You're not invincible if you have the vaccine. It just means that you won't be hospitalized or die. You can still get it, get really sick, or pass it to someone else.

Even after vaccinated, I'm still going to be really careful b/c I have NO desire to have long term health effects from COVID (blood clots, breathing issues, etc). I'll let my guard down once the spread dies down b/c the majority are vaccinated.

They don’t even really know how well it will work or for how long. Just like the flu, I am sure there will be strains every year.,
People are putting a lot of hope into something that is not even fully approved. People getting now are basically the trial testers.

Reason why I think more efforts should be put into finding more efficient and accessible treatments so we can deal with covid better. I firmly believe that at this point a great majority of us have had it whether symptomatic or asymptomatically, and if not u def will whether tomorrow, next month, next year. Forget about lockdowns, or a vaccine that can’t even promise not getting the virus or spreading it. The “experts” should instead put their energy and knowledge in finding treatments that will help someone ride the virus safely because this virus just like any other virus will not disappear or get “eradicated” like some people love to claim.

Yet this magical vaccine that we don’t know how effective it is, how long it lasts, and whether a person can still spread COVID grants you entry into so many places in the beautiful state of New York. Makes sense.

The vaccine has been proven to have 100% efficacy at preventing severe disease and death. It is effective. Makes total sense to encourage as many people as possible to get it. The entire purpose is to keep people out of the hospital and prevent death.

They are working on treatment. Pfizer is currently working on a protein inhibitor, which looks promising, but is still in very early testing.

My DH is mostly in his own office all day and wears a mask when he interacts with others but even being as safe as possible, there is always a risk of contracting it. Nothing is 100% fail safe.

Having COVID was a pretty $hitty experience that I wouldn't want to repeat, fingers crossed we all test positive for antibodies which will hold us over until we get the vaccine.

A vaccine, even if you need to get it every year, is better than nothing. After going through COVID myself and watching my DH and DD suffer through it we will take the vaccine WITHOUT QUESTION if it means staying out of the hospital and NOT dying.

The scariest part of COVID is that it lasts so long and you have NO idea what each new day will bring, at any point you can wake up with low oxygen and not breathing. It's unnerving day to day when you are sick.

FTR, they absolutely know how well the vaccine works, they just don't know how often you will need it. But even if this is like the flu vaccine and you need it every year, who cares? It's better than being deathly ill, in the hospital or dead. I would feel much better about having COVID again in the future if I were vaccinated and KNEW that I wouldn't end up hospitalized. Getting COVID is all a crap shoot and NOBODY knows how they will fare, you can think you're the most healthy person on the planet but until you have COVID there is NO way to know how your body will respond. The vaccine is peace of mind if you unfortunately end up sick, it gives you a FAR better chance of recovering quickly and being fine.

I’m aware it lessens the symptoms. And that’s great for those who have a higher probability of hospitalization or death.

But we don’t know if vaccinated people can still be asymptotic and spread COVID. I’m just saying that someone in their 30’s who is healthy and symptom free and doesn’t want to take the vaccine bc they are waiting to see if there are reproductive effects (many people in that age bracket) has to take a test to enter a facility. But if you are vaccinated you don’t? What if you currently have it? Just because your vaccinated you don’t need to produce negative results?

Within the next couple months those who want to be vaccinated will be able to be and I just don’t think you should have to produce a vaccination card to enter places. It’s a false sense of security.

Oh geez! The infamous vaccine passports! Chat Icon

Are they now claiming it’s 100% effective? Cause interestingly enough I know people that have gotten covid post vaccines. Last I heard they were claiming it was 94% or so effective at lessening symptoms.

And just for the record, not getting the vaccine is not a guarantee u’ll be hospitalized or die. Based on some comments u’d assume it’s either the vaccine or u'll be hospitalized/die and that’s not the case.

But the vaccine also has over 90% efficacy in preventing ANY infection in the first place so it means that *most* people who are vaccinated will not be spreading it as they have a smaller likelihood of having COVID in the first place. I know it's not 100% but no vaccine is 100%. A virus is only as strong as its hosts, if the vaccine both lessens the severity and lessens the transmission then over time, COVID will become less and less of a health crisis and will likely be no worse than a flu. We need to get the population stronger than the virus and that is where vaccines come in.

As for vaccination cards, being that COVID is SO easily transmitted I don't see a problem with requiring them or a negative test result for venues where hundreds or thousands will gather. If you don't want to be vaccinated, just take a test before attending big events. I don't think that is asking too much if it means ending this pandemic and getting back to "normal".

I find it interesting that people who wear a mask and social distance still get it while others who are around people for months with no masks and no social distance have been fine.
Guess it goes to show you the make and social distance don’t always work so many have stopped their lives for a year and still got sick.

What it goes to show you is that COVID is a crap shoot, nobody is immune and that you don't know in what circumstances you may or may not get sick.

Wearing a mask and social distancing isn't stopping your life, it's helping to stop the spread but nothing is 100% nor does it need to be for it to still be effective. Imagine how many more cases there would be or how much worse the spread would be if we took none of these measures. Insinuating that these safety precautions don't matter or don't have a positive effect is being wilfully ignorant to how easily COVID can spread.

Also, there have been many articles about the severity of COVID being tied to how much of a viral load you're exposed too. Wearing a mask and standing 6 ft apart even if you still end up contracting COVID means less exposure to the virus which can in turn lead to a potentially milder case.
