Bar Mitzvah question
We booked a catering hall for my son's bar mitzvah next year. The party is at night and services are early morning.
I know it's over a year away and we better be in a better place by then! 
So here's a silly question...
I'm sure I'll get two dresses. A more conservative one for temple in the morning and then a party dress for night.
Do I get my hair and makeup done twice?
Do I just do it myself for the morning and then have it all done professionally before the evening party.
I know it's silly, but working on it now and something I thought of. Plus I need something to look forward to.

Bar Mitzvah question
I'm Catholic but I do know that Bar Mitzvahs are huge deals, and more so for the parents. I think since you have a big time gap, I would just do my hair and makeup myself for temple and then get professionally done for night. Or if you have hair that will keep a style for a good length of time, you could have the hair done in the morning if it would last through the night.

Thanks! Good point. I am lucky to be friends with the hairdresser and makeup artist (both will be invited) so maybe do it myself or get help. I'm not sure.

I'd do my own hair and makeup in the morning, for Temple and then get it professionally done for the party. I wouldn't want to worry about it "lasting" all day

Will you be busy between the two events? Helping your son, taking pictures, hosting out of town guests? I know for weddings, there can be a lot going on between the ceremony.
Do you want it done twice because you want it to last, or because you want two different looks?
A professional MUA can probably create something to last all day/ night ( and maybe give you the lipstick to touch up.), but it might be too much makeup for your for the daytime, depending on what you like.
My makeup was done at like 10 am for my my afternoon wedding/evening reception.

It's not silly, it is an important occasion and it is nice to have something to look forward too and a topic that won't cause drama!
But if you are friends with both the hair and makeup, then I may change my answer and say go for both, Temple and party! Because neither will have to start from scratch, if one or both are willing, they can touch you up before party...makeup could be done more dramatic for pm and hair could either be touched up, or in an updo if you like, or curls added, etc..

It's not silly, it is an important occasion and it is nice to have something to look forward too and a topic that won't cause drama!

I think the temple pics are done a separate day anyway. Pics will be done at the hall so will have makeup and hair done for that.

If so, I'd just do it then- and have them use a really good setting spray etc

Do it yourself for temple. Just have a plan. Buy new makeup & get good at doing it the way you like. I know for me personally, my eyes & skin are sensitive so I would want to remove makeup and start over for evening anyway. Knowing me, I would even want to shower again.
Mazel Tov in advance. My son turned 13 during the pandemic and I was dealing with some health issues anyway. We did not even have a ceremony. I’m doing better but now we have no idea what we want to do. I understand thinking these things out in advance. It’s part of the fun and I will miss it if we don’t do much. I do not even know if we will have a party but I would totally love to pick out a dress (or 2) for me and suits for my men.

I'm so sorry. I know it was such a tough year and I know a lot of friends who postponed, cancelled or changed the venue.
I'm glad you're feeling better. You should still get yourself a dress, get done up and get suits and do pics at the temple and outside. It'll be nice and even do a something outside with family to celebrate. It's a bar mitzvah and you all deserve to celebrate. I've seen some beautiful parties done outside.
It's so hard planning something now while all this is going on. Just give me something to look forward to, but of course in the back of my head we have to have a plan B in case. The hall we are having it at is also caterers so we can bring it outside if needed.
Hope you can do something. Especially now that the weather is warming up.

Thank you. I really hope that by next year, parties are totally unaffected by Covid. I totally understand the idea of having something to look forward to. My son's friends are not all Jewish but it seems that everyone who is Jewish handled it differently. Some parties have been postponed but kids had virtual ceremonies. Some people postponed everything. Some had outdoor parties. Some decided not to do anything at all. I am keeping all options opened for now. My son is pretty easygoing about it but I want to do something to honor the time spent in Hebrew school. I know not everyone sees it that way but I do.
