And I am not obsessing on you - I was simply pointing out how ironic it was that you tried to school me on how most Americans are not that bright and then you called half of American's "dumb AF." I am assuming if half are dumb AF, then some are probably just plain dumb but not quite dumb AF, and then a few are "not that bright," so maybe you actually agree with me after all that most American's overall are not that bright. I guess my question wasn't worded properly. The more people are left vulnerable to the virus, even asymptomatically, the more likely we will see new variants that over time could become more dangerous or completely evade the vaccine. Every scientist under the sun has said this, including Dr. Fauci. The whole "why do you worry if you're vaccinated" argument doesn't hold water. Every vaccine in existence has only worked so well due to herd immunity. A virus dies out when there is no longer hosts to infect.
But if a significant portion of the population is left vulnerable, it will continue to circulate, and before long, the mutations occur that render vaccines and treatments ineffective.
I am not arguing anyone who doesn't want the vaccine. My whole point is if you choose not to get vaccinated, you have to accept the path to normalcy will be prolonged. I just posted how Cuomo is opening more things soon. That is more normalcy. Mite people being able to work. My kid gets to go back to school full time soon.
I don’t know what is going on in NJ but the harder they are on Cuomo and the more people suing him, the more normalcy we are getting.

Exactly and we will have to live with this like other viruses probably forever. We have learned how to deal with it better after a year but thinking you will know who has gotten a vaccine is not logical.

You are correct. I do not think the virus will ever be eradicated. The vaccine is our best hope for getting somewhat back to normal. But if you want my opinion, the life we knew before covid is gone forever. I do think we will eventually get to a point where we are close to what we knew. But never exactly the way it was.

Nobody thinks we're eradicating the virus, not even those of us who are willing to take the vaccine. It's NEVER been about eliminating COVID but minimizing the symptoms if you contract it along with minimizing the spread. The less hosts, the less spread, the less mutations. That's why a vaccine is so important.
The good news is, it won't take the U.S. five years to get enough people vaccinated, it'll take just a few months at the current pace. So if enough citizens in this country are vaccinated to where we reach herd immunity then we'll be in much better shape as a nation even though it'll take other countries longer to catch up. More normalcy for us despite what's happening globally.
Regardless of whether you (collective you) want the vaccine or not, it's absolutely the answer to ending this nightmare whether that takes a few months or a few years.

But we are not going to close our borders so it will all depend on the effectiveness of the vaccines on existing and future variants. As we have already seen with Covid 19 it is highly contagious and so if the vaccine ends up not being effective on a mutation we will be back to square one. Like I said in another thread i often wonder if we will look back one day and realize we would have lost less lives if we had not had all of these isolation orders in place and allowed natural herd immunity to happen. Only time will tell.

I guess my question wasn't worded properly. The more people are left vulnerable to the virus, even asymptomatically, the more likely we will see new variants that over time could become more dangerous or completely evade the vaccine. Every scientist under the sun has said this, including Dr. Fauci. The whole "why do you worry if you're vaccinated" argument doesn't hold water. Every vaccine in existence has only worked so well due to herd immunity. A virus dies out when there is no longer hosts to infect.
But if a significant portion of the population is left vulnerable, it will continue to circulate, and before long, the mutations occur that render vaccines and treatments ineffective.
I am not arguing anyone who doesn't want the vaccine. My whole point is if you choose not to get vaccinated, you have to accept the path to normalcy will be prolonged. As much as you want life to go back to February 2020, it isn't going to. Not anytime soon. And definitely not if enough people refuse the vaccine.
So, don't get the vaccine. Complain all you want about restrictions. But if you're looking for a pre-covid world right now, you aren't going to get it.
The problem is that covid is a global problem now but the vaccine will not be available globally on a widespread basis any time soon.

It will take close to 5 years to have enough people vaccinated world wide. In the mean time the virus will continue to mutate and there will be new variants. People behave as if we are just a few months away from eradicating this virus.
Nobody thinks we're eradicating the virus, not even those of us who are willing to take the vaccine. It's NEVER been about eliminating COVID but minimizing the symptoms if you contract it along with minimizing the spread. The less hosts, the less spread, the less mutations. That's why a vaccine is so important.
The good news is, it won't take the U.S. five years to get enough people vaccinated, it'll take just a few months at the current pace. So if enough citizens in this country are vaccinated to where we reach herd immunity then we'll be in much better shape as a nation even though it'll take other countries longer to catch up. More normalcy for us despite what's happening globally.

It's hard to know what could've been but ultimately, I think we did what was necessary early on to protect ourselves. As for the long term effectiveness of the vaccine, my opinion is that any protection against COVID is better than no protection. Time will definitely tell how this all goes.
