Just like if I said most people in your family are stupid - I am clearly not comparing you to one another. I'm comparing you to the general population, not just to one another.

Geez, was this comment really called for? Are you going to claim you're not being as petty, nasty, or immature here as you're calling out other people? How is this part of the civil discourse you claim to want others to engage in? I'm not seeing where anybody mentioned your family.

I believe it was a hypothetical. You know like on real housewives of Nj with Jackie and Teresa.

And it’s not individual wants. It’s living life. Those were examples. Want more important examples....someone being able to bring another individual with them to get their cancer diagnosis or having someone close by IN the building during treatments. Being able to be in a room with a spouse during a sonogram and getting devastating news. These are important. Open up NY

My spouse was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. His most recent appointment with his MD was last week. As with every single other appointment he has had since the beginning, I was right there in the room with him for his exam.

My nephew had surgery a few weeks ago, my sister walked him into the operating room. He is not a baby, he is a teenager. Right here, on Long Island at St. Catherine's Hospital.

Well it must vary by hospital and facility because my husband was not allowed in the ER with me or the urgent care when I got injured 2 weeks ago.
And we sill haven't been allowed to visit my elderly father in law in a nursing home since March of 2020. And he- and all residents and staff- are now fully vaccinated for well over a month.

I "feel" that if we New Yorkers knew that the 30 days would have turned in to a year; there would have been more resistance. I don't think the lockdowns necessarily help in the long run. I think the social distancing and masks do but I don't think we need indoor dining to end at 11 (or 10 pm) previously. I don't think we need to not have concerts. I think we need more testing, social distancing measures and masks.
It's ridiculous that the kids are not getting a prom this year. We know much more and don't need so much imposed.

I agree that if people knew things would last this long there would have been more resistance. I also believe that if there had been more resistance the number of cases and the number of deaths would be higher.

I think the lock downs helped to a certain extent. If you look at the way the virus spreads through locker rooms of professional sports teams, imagine that going through the crowd in attendance and then out into the community.

We have always needed more testing. From day one all the way until today we need more testing. Do I think the testing protocol that is in place right now in New York to open MSG etc could have been put into place earlier? Probably. Do I think it would have been a good idea to do it earlier? Probably. Am I happy they are willing to do it now and watch for efficacy and then expand the test than admit for more venue? Absolutely.

Seniors in my school district are getting prom.

Nope, not selfish taking something that has no background studies on people for an extended period of time. It had nothing to do with science having it before this. It hasn’t been used on humans and I am not comfortable yet. I have a choice and I am not harming anyone. Just like I have a choice with the flu shot or many other medical decisions.

If whiny is wanting my children to be back in school and people getting their jobs back. As well as people being able to see and do things with their family and friends, even if yes, god forbid they want to get a mani together or dance with a bride and groom to share things with them, then, yes, I guess I am being whiny.

Let's dissect this comment. First - not selfish taking something that has not background studies for an extended period of time. I think you mean that you are not being selfish by refusing to get a vaccine. Chat Icon Chat Icon Said comment being followed by stuff I'm not going to repeat then this It hasn’t been used on humans . This is another Chat Icon Chat Icon , since "used on humans" is exactly what they do in vaccine trials -which have been done. And then this gem . . .I am not harming anyone which is completely tone deaf to the science regarding asymptomatic transmission of Covid, as well as presymptomatic transmission of Covid.

Taking this altogether, what I read is that if you contract Covid because you refused to get a vaccine, it's OK, even if you transmit Covid to another person and that person dies because you don't think you should take a vaccine since the trials haven't been conducted on the absolute number of people that you deem satisfactory, and that this is not selfish.

It boils down to I have no interest in getting the vaccine right now, or maybe ever. Just like I don’t get the flu shot and no one had said I am selfish about that. I can easily get someone else sick if I get the flu.
I think we all need to be respected for our decisions.

There is zero reason for me to take this

1. Preventing infection.
2. Preventing your ability to transmit the virus to another person who may die as a result.

There are two reasons.

Why is it so difficult for some to realize that others don’t want to take a vaccine that just came out and would like to see side affects that might appear down the road?

I absolutely positively realize that people have a legitimate fear of a new vaccine. I felt this way when they rushed through the swine flu vaccine a few years ago. I took issue with comments like "I'm not being selfish if I don't get it" and "there is zero reason for me to take this" - as I disagree with both of those statements.

To come forward and say, I think the process was rushed, and as a result I am not comfortable taking this vaccine presents, IMO, a valid concern. One that each individual then needs to evaluate for themselves by doing research into the things they think are concerning. But to claim that you're not hurting anyone as justification for not getting the vaccine, is - again IMHO, wrong.

Texas is open!

Genuine question- all of you who won't get the vaccine but also want everything 100% open, what do you suggest the elderly and immunocompromised people do? Stay inside for years so you can live your best life?

That's EXACTLY what they want. They've said multiple times on this thread that if you're "scared" Chat Icon, old or have medical issues those people should just stay home so they can get back to their lives because none of these restrictions are fair to them.

They want their cake and to eat it too. They want everything open so they can "live" but don't want to be bothered with restrictions or vaccines because it is an inconvenience to them.

Not speaking for them because I don't know but wouldn't the elderly and immune compromised be the first one's to get the vaccine and therefore be protected from those who don't want to or won't get it?

That’s your opinion and you are entitled to it.
I also have had no problem going to parties and having people over for 10 months. I go to restaurants all the time. I don’t get groceries or other things delivered. I go out and get everything. I have a vacation planned I am hoping we can go on.
I don’t smoke, I have no underlying issues, I take care of myself regarding eating, sleeping, trying to eliminate stress.
I live with an essential who has never stopped going to work and my friends are mostly essentials that I have seen.
I know people who have gotten sick, who were hospitalized and whom have died.
I don’t think the virus is fake but know the chance of dying is very slim and honestly don’t believe all the numbers that are given and that it is a death sentence for every single person.
I know people who won’t leave their house and ones that won’t wear a mask and go out and all in between.
I need to do what is right for me and I am not someone who follows everyone to get the next social media photo of me getting a vaccine. I will make that decision in the future and don’t feel when and if I do I need to let everyone know.

I'll answer that one.

Everyone has to take responsibility for their own health. The elderly and immunocompromised are able to get vaccinated if they choose to do so. I will not be putting anything in my body until it has been thoroughly vetted.

I take personal responsibility in that I wear my mask and I wash my hands. If someone is vulnerable or nervous about contracting COVID (which I fully respect), it is on him or her to take those same precautions.

It is obvious that the vaccines have potential. However, at this point, I do not believe for MY comfort level that they have been studied enough. Why?

1. How long is immunity good for? CDC says "at least 90 days" -

2. If I am vaccinated, can I still spread COVID to others? They don't know. That's why at this time the idea of "herd immunity" is false. All the "herd immunity is doing is stopping potentially fatal infections in the person who is vaccinated. True herd immunity is that enough people are vaccinated so the general population will not come in contact with an active infection.

It's a highly personal decision that everyone needs to make for themselves. My mom has been fully vaccinated, as has my DH. I'm happy for them because that's what they chose to do. I even drove my mom for her appointments. I am eligible for the vaccine, but am choosing not to take it at this time.

If that makes me selfish, so be it. I'm ok with valuing myself first.

Yep. 2 out of 4 of us in my house can get the vaccine right now. Compromised and for work. They won’t be getting it and that helps others who also have issues or older, IMO who want it.

Yes, but vaccines work best the more people that are vaccinated. The less people walking around spreading the virus the less of an issue COVID becomes for everyone. Chat Icon

But if you believe they will eliminate you getting sick or getting less sick, then you don’t need to worry if anyone else gets one too.
Do you really know who around you now has been vaccinated for other things? Do you know if the man or woman next to you in a store got a flu shot?

OMG this is so funny. Even after my very simple example you still do not understand how it works. Sweetie, I was an accounting/finance major and I took many advanced stats classes. The only one embarrassing themselves here is you.

And I am not obsessing on you - I was simply pointing out how ironic it was that you tried to school me on how most Americans are not that bright and then you called half of American's "dumb AF." I am assuming if half are dumb AF, then some are probably just plain dumb but not quite dumb AF, and then a few are "not that bright," so maybe you actually agree with me after all that most American's overall are not that bright. Follow my logic? Probably not.
