Birthday Party question

Would you allow your child to go to a birthday party in a house with 11 other kids (a backyard option is not available)? The hosts all had covid a few months ago, but I know for a fact that they didn’t take covid seriously before and still don’t.

No way. Unless I didn’t care about all those factors that you mentioned.

Re: Birthday Party question

This is not a dig against you OP, so don't take this the wrong way, but I see a lot of these posts lately and I guess my question is...if everyone here said, yes definitely we'd send our kid to this party, would that change what your inclination was to send your child out not?
Or if we all said no and you felt comfortable in the first place, would you change your mind and not send them?
I guess what I mean is everyone has their own comfort levels and what you feel comfortable with for yourself and your child may not be the same as what I feel comfortable with and vice versa.
I'm never sure what the point of posts like this are...
Again not being snarky, just genuinely curious.
I guess if your on the fence and want other's opinion I can see it, but it kind of seems like you don't think it's a good idea by the way you worded it. So go with your gut.

Well that’s what exactly why I’m asking the question... to get opinions. Thanks.

Understood. But again, if we all said yes we'd send our kid to the party you describe, would you send your kid with no qualms?

No, because I’m not a follower. I obviously have not made my decision yet, which is why I am asking for opinions. It would be nice to have some food for thought so I can make my own decision.

Re: Birthday Party question

No. We are doing outdoor events only and no play dates unless it’s at a park or outside and everyone wears a mask.

The most important thing for me is that my kids stay in school. I don’t want to contribute to the risk of them getting it over the weekend and shutting down their class or getting sick. Vaccines are not widely distributed yet, no kids have received them and there are new more contagious variants out there.

I’m concerned about getting the virus myself because of other health issues I’ve had in the past. I also don’t want my kids or hubby to get it and have any kind of long term side effects. We’ve only seen family a handful of times spread out, outside over the last year.

At this point, we’ve been very careful for so long I’m not going to risk it for a baby shower or bday party or anything. I’d send a gift or say no.

If the kids were kids that my kids routinely hang out with, then yes I would let them go. We hang out with 3 other families regularly. Between us, there are 9 kids so I would have no problem with my kids going to a party with them. If it was 11 random kids from 11 different families, then no.

Side note: Its so whacked we have to do these analysis of social situations to see if it fits in the comfort zone. I can't wait for the nice weather to get here so everyone can just be outside.

Outside is kind of a false sense of security with kids though. My DD and her friends are all over each other in the pool, looking at each other's devices to show a picture or a move in a video game, hanging on each other etc. They are still in very close proximity even when outside

Birthday Party question

No. You said hosts don't take Covid Seriously- that would be my deciding factor.
DD's birthday is 4/2, last year we had a party planned and had to cancel. I (stupidly) told her things would be better this year and she could have her party. We just planned a small (6 children) party at her gym, it is 1 hour of playtime in the gym. Masks required, temp checks, no pizza/cake. No Parents (except me & my husband) can stay. We invited friends we've seen over the last few months. I am not sure if everyone will come, and I won't hold it against them. Everyone who knows me (and the people invited do) know how serious I take this whole situation and I know how they take it. It's all people I trust (And I know that doesn't mean we are 100% safe, but I feel okay with this).

Birthday Party question

Just a thought for those planning birthday parties. We just went to one at the Movie Theater and it was great. I lean more towards the careful side when socializing and I thought it was done very well. You rent out the entire theater and only 20 people can come. Our host had the kids sit every 3 seats so they were 6 feet apart and they wore their masks unless they were eating popcorn. The host gave out cupcakes at the end to take home. While totally not the norm, the kids still had a blast and were thrilled to be doing something semi normal. I thought it was a pretty good option for those that want to have a little celebration.

I love this idea.
There is also an art studio by me that does birthday parties.
Limit on the number of kids, they all wear masks, they sit apart, but they get to create something- a painting or other craft etc
My DD had a party there a few years back before all this and it was great

Yep, absolutely if they felt comfortable themselves.
These kids mental state is deteriorating and we are doing no good holding them back now after a year.

Re: Birthday Party question

No, but we've been pretty carful. I do believe life will start getting better, but we've been doing good so far.
I have heard too many times Covid spreading at these indoor get togethers. We also want to see more family, our friends and parents. I can't take the chance sending my kid indoors now and then possibly getting covid or having to quarentine bc there was a case at the party. Can't afford for DH to get it either with his business or staying in 2 weeks, but that's us.
Maybe we don't get it bad, but I don't ever want to be the person that gave it to someone else. Especially our parents who are older. JMO
Everyone has to do what they are comfortable with. My 2 boys have had outside playdates and are full remote and thank goodness totally fine. Good grades, still socializing with friends outside and calling each other or playing videogames online too.

Birthday Party question

No. Many indoor birthday parties in our town have ended up with a positive case, which temporarily shut down the classrooms of all attendees. I don’t want to be part of the reason anyone misses school.

We’re been to a ton of outdoor/winter parties. Sledding, ice skating, roasting marshmallows/hot chocolate bar, park meet-up.

Birthday Party question

No. There's so much to do outdoors. I wouldn't risk an indoor party. If it was outdoors, then sure. Also, my DC are old enough to socially distance and follow proper recommendations.

Re: Birthday Party question

Ultimately everyone's circumstances are different. You know what the risks are, you need to determine if this is worth the risk. It's somewhat silly to ask what a bunch of strangers on the internet would do when there is no way your circumstances and any of theirs could possibly be alike. For example, my answer would be yes, but my children have had and recovered from Covid recently. Does that help your decision? I am guessing it doesn't help at all.

If you want people's opinions, perhaps give your own situation. So (hypothetically) - say "I have a 9 year old daughter who was invited to a birthday party of her friend. The friend and her family recently recovered from Covid but there are 10 girls invited to the party who have not yet had Covid. My husband suffers from Diabetes so we have been really careful to avoid Covid as he may get very ill and possibly die if he contracts Covid. My daughter will be really disappointed if she can't go to the party? What would you do?" Then, most people would probably say No. You kind of have to give your own circumstances if you want to know what their educated opinions are. Just a thought.
