Wondering if you choose not to listen to quarantine what can really be done.

I just lost it on NYS about quarantining my son yet again! We all just had covid in January CDC says 90 days we are with in 90 days.

I’m over the stupid goddamn rules that make no sense either. I didn’t realize covid can skip certain miles so what’s ok in one town isn’t ok in the next!

You want rules make them consistent the fact to every country town school etc can make there own protocols is ridiculous!! Before anyone tell me that’s not true NYS told me it is.

Why a school district within 10 miles of me only quarantined those that sit close to the child but my district makes the entire class quarantine is so dumb!!!!

Rant over but really what can they do? Is my son going anywhere right now no but it’s the principle.

I asked if they were going to come and take my child away or should I be hiding him. I am so livid!!

To be honest, I don't even bother answering the phone when contact tracing calls. I know the whole thing already and i'm not giving you my address or any personal information so you can track me in any way. With that said, I think its a fine. However, you would have to have someone snitch for them to know. I know people who were in same situation as you and did not quarantine fully.

Going forward after this one is done I am actually blocking the number from my phone.

I’m over the stupid inconsistent rules they have in place.

I never answer my phones unless I know who you are. I'd never answer these people. Let them call the cops.

I guess if you get a call unrelated to school, you can get away with not quarantining. But, if the school says that your kid was within 6 feet of a kid that tested positive and they say you have to quarantine, unfortunately, the school won't let your kid in school.

I agree that it's so stupid that the rules in one place are so different than the rules in another place. I just hope this goes away soon!

It’s so crazy. We are so fortunate that my son hasn’t had to quarantine because our district only makes kids who sit around the sick student quarantine. But is that okay but another district makes the whole class or even like the city the whole school? I’m pretty pro restrictions and this bothers me.

I don't think you will have any issue outside of school, but your son will not be allowed in school if they say he is quarantined. If they are still quarantining the whole class, the school is not following the CDC guidelines so I would be asking what they can do to change that. The new rule is that to get quarantined (for school) you need to be closer than 6 feet with or without mask for more than 10 minutes.

When did they change this? My district quarantines everyone in the class. My DD was quarantined for all of winter break. (And the girl who has it sits on the opposite side of the classroom)

I think that it has depended on if the kids are all 6 feet apart with plexi or not. Our district has never quarantined an entire class. I think schools with limited space that prohibits social distancing have stricter rules.

They are all 6 ft apart in the classroom with masks —-just no plexi glass. Only plexi in the cafeteria

We don't have plexiglass either. And my DD has a class of 17 so I doubt they are 6 feet apart. And yet, never has a whole class needed to quarantine due to a case in that class.

We used to do the whole class but right before Feb break the county (Rockland) changed it to only kids within 6 ft, 12 ft when eating.

Most of our high school is full remote because so many kids had to quarantine under the old rules they said forget it.

I don't have the paperwork in front of my right now but I'll look for it, but I want to say back in December.

The main thing is that they need to be 6 feet apart at all times (I believe it's more in music and PE). Masks need to be worn except for eating and that should only be for a limited time. If they are closer than 6 feet in the cafe with no masks that is a complete violation of guidelines. If your school is doing the correct thing and still quarantining the class, I would ask your BOE why and where they are getting that direction from because it is not right.

Just edited to add that plexiglass really doesn't matter. Air particles do not just travel directly in front of you so it is really just a minimal protection if any.

Our secondary schools are now in the process of going back to full time in person learning from every other day hybrid. Monday 6th and 9th start their first week of full time in school. After that the other grades will be slowly added back in.
Thank God because if DD had to start middle school hybrid next year I would have lost my shit.
Thank God they are coming to their senses

This just changed in my school. We now have assigned seats, and if anyone tests positive within range of where that kid sat, only the people in that circle have to quarantine, instead of the whole class.

What can legally be done if you don’t quarantine?

Do schools have to follow the guidelines? I think it makes much more sense to only quarantine those sitting within 6 feet of the sick student. My principal (catholic school) is going to follow those guidelines for 3rd-8th. However, for Pre-K through 2nd, she is still going to have the whole class quarantine if a child tests positive. Her reasoning is little kids are more likely to pull masks down, put fingers in their nose and mouth, not wash hands properly, etc. So she feels it is safer to have the little ones all at home if a child gets sick.

Schools can be more strict than the guidelines but not less than what the state will allow. My district quarantined the class. And IMO I’d rather be safe than sorry. My son was exposed at hockey and I would hate to be the person that sent him to school and maybe infected someone else.

Our middle and high school are still hybrid but the high school students opted for full remote since they didn't want to quarantine anymore (and school kept closing if 2 or more people were positive since so many had to quarantine). My 5th grade son goes 2 days a week. Next week he will start going 3 every other week.

ETA - we have no plexiglass and desks are 6 ft apart. Masks worn except for short mask breaks or while eating. Masks are worn outside unless you are 12 ft apart.

Thanks everyone. I get he can’t go to school which doesn’t matter cause the whole class is quarantined but I don’t think it’s fair to make them have to stay in for 10 days where they can’t go and do anything! You can’t even test out which is bullshittt. So we can test out when we travel but not for school.

This is my problem with the rules they make 0 sense!!!!!

FTR I have been following and listening to them all even if I don’t agree with them but I am not officially over the inconsistency.

As long as they aren’t going to arrest me or take my kid I’m doing what I want.

Also I have complained several times to the school and I will again now why they keep quarantining the whole class.

If someone reports you - you can be fined but, that's about it.

It has baffled me the whole time how the state DOH makes the rules and there is such a wide range of interpretation across the state. I was so mad everytime kids were quarantined/school was shut when my family on LI went every day and didn't close for cases.

True - and you have proof of a positive covid test within 90 days so really you don't have to quarantine - just no school.
