We are SO close. Most adults who want it (that's another issue that I don't have time or will to get into) should have the vaccine by the summer, plus by then we can at least have outdoor events. I could see everyone losing patience if the scientists tossed their hands up about the vaccine and we weren't getting one as we speak. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and if people can just hang in there a little longer we can do things the right way.

That's where I am- I feel like we've come so close, I don't want to F it up now. I am actually going out less than I had been.

My DH is getting his 2nd dose tomorrow & his parents are fully vaccinated. I am fully encouraging him to hang out with them, but I am hesitant, because they are going out & about more freely now & I am still confused on weather or not they can't transmit it to me without getting it themselves.

at least for mow, it is my excuse to stay home! :)

It depends. I am fully vaccinated, but that only protects ME. It doesn't protect everyone else if they are not fully vaccinated. I am not sure I would go, but I can also understand why others would. I also think if the mother to be is comfortable, and everyone who attends is comfortable, then who are we to say it is irresponsible. Nobody is being forced to do anything.

no. dh and I are fully vaccinated, but we spend time with my siblings and nieces/nephews who are not vaccinated and don't want to carry anything. I just want to make sure I didn't get this vaccine for nothing, and it makes me kind of angry to see people going out and having showers and stuff. Some of us who got vaccinated early, may find out it was useless because impatient people are causing more mutations!

I want to enjoy my summer, so i will happily stay indoors and allow us to get to that 75% vaccination number

It depends on who it is and how many people are going to be there. If it is someone important to me and 10-15 people, I would go with a mask a on.

Right - I am kind of surprised at the people saying they wouldn't go to protect others. No one is being forced to go. Anyone there is choosing to be there, including the mother to be. It's not like this hasn't been on the news. I'm pretty sure everyone in the world knows there is a global pandemic. Or does everyone think that they are so much smarter than the other guests? The other guests aren't intelligent enough to make an informed decision about whether or not they want to attend? Not that it's every man for themselves but I think it's okay to let others take the risks that they want to take.

Yep would absolutely go. I have seen many pics of baby showers for months now and everyone was fine. I have a bridal shower to go to and would have never said no. It is in a restaurant and assume it will be just like when we go out to eat.

Would anyone be coming from out of town?

Also, I went to a small indoor gathering several weeks ago. 7 people. Very close relatives. 5 out of 7 came down with COVID several days later. Nobody exhibited any symptoms whatsoever at the gathering and everyone thought they were being careful.

I would respectfully decline.

Sadly most people aren't careful at gatherings just out of habit. People all touch the same stuff, touch their eyes, nose mouth. Don't wash hands after touching that bottle of soda everyone else touched, etc.

Were they masked?

I’d only go if I was disciplined enough, which I am.

I went to one function that was indoors and I was the only person who wore the mask the entire time. I also didn’t eat or drink anything. I took a couple of mask breaks outside alone.

I noticed some people wore their mask but then as the hour went on, they would take it off.

I can’t even imagine being pregnant and feeling safe at a party. I mean people used to go crazy about being worried about eating sushi and cold cuts… But pregnant and a party during a pandemic? Yeah...no thanks.

** UPDATE **

The husband (soon-to-be father) just tested positive for COVID.

Does that impact what some of you said previously? Genuinely wondering....

If he has covid now he won't likely be recovered by the time of the shower. The mom will also have to quarantine 10 days. They should postpone it st this point

This just proves our point for those who said no. It's not worth the risk. What if the party was over the weekend and then he just tested positive.

Similar thing happened to me. Not a party, but my son's best friend's father invited my son to come over. We have been carful and not in anyone's homes. I was considering it bc he misses his friend. I did say no, but we'll wait till it's warmer out to get them together. The next day the mom, who I'm good friends with, said she has to quarentine bc she was exposed so the whole family had to. It's not worth spreading Covid right now.

That’s what they get for even thinking about having a baby shower.

LOL! I didn't take offense to it, but understand the point.
Anyone who is considering having an indoor party with a lot of people aren't being careful themselves. Those friends like us who are carful hang out outside when it's nice out or wear masks and are apart. They are not throwing indoor get togethers now.
I know people all over the place too who are having parties, traveling, etc.
To each their own, but my own opinion to stay safe now is to wait a bit longer and would decline any invite that is inside with a lot of guests.

Not funny but funny.

People don’t realize how far and few between these things happen and half the time it is a story they heard from their cousins uncles mothers boyfriend.

Sick yes. Thank goodness no one died.
and yes... some never got Covid.
My DH own his own business in construction. He doesn't work he doesn't get paid. If he gets exposed that's 2 weeks not working. Maybe if he was working from home we'd be a bit more open about being with others.
It also depends where you're at too. My friends daughter's lungs are formed smaller than an average person. She spent her 1st 2 years of life at the Ronald McDonald house bc her lungs were formed on the outside when she was born. After tons of surgery she's doing great, but I can see why they are super carful. What about people who live with and taking care of an elder or sick relative. I think it's case by case.
I don't judge friends who are out and about, but we may decline to go inside. That's all.
My brother works at a hospital and has seen perfectly healthy people die too. I don't know... I guess we can all choose to live how we want the best way that keeps us and our family healthy.
