What I really don't get is why the change would bother anyone. Most of us probably don't understand why having the Mr. would be problematic but some people are walking through life constantly being reminded that they are not in the mainstream for whatever reason. When I don't understand this kind of change I'm just reminded of my privilege and feel for those who don't have that.

Because people have huge issues with change. They don't like the fact that society is constantly changing and evolving. It makes them uncomfortable so instead they would rather demand that things stay the same to make themselves feel better.

Because you have to draw the line somewhere. This is a child’s toy. One where kids give the potato a mustache as an ear. It’s a TOY.

It’s not the change people have a problem with. It’s the fact that it is being shoved down our throats and we are told we are horrible people for calling it ‘mr potato head’

It's being shoves down your throat because a company decide to no longer call it Mr. Potato Head? Get a grip. If you feel the need to continue to call it Mr. Potatoe Head then do it. It's your right just like the company has the right to change the name of its product to make more people feel inclusive. You don't like it then don't buy the toy....boycott the company.

Re: No more "Mr" Potato Head?

Maybe I'm just a chill laid back kind of person, but I never gaf what a company wants to do with their product. Honestly Idgaf if Mr. potato head wants to launch its penis to the moon, if Starbucks wants to change the color of their cup or print Happy Holidays or menorahs on their holiday cup, if Chuck E. Cheese wants to change its mascot to a bear that thinks it's a rat, if Barbie wants to be a man. It makes no difference to me and I never understand why people lose their shit over this kind of stuff.

It's a potato. Potatoes don't have genders. Would the target market, a child, even notice or care if the "Mr." was dropped? Or do they only know because mom and dad won't stop ranting about it? Would the child really be like "well this toy was on my Christmas list, but now that they stopped calling him Mr. I'm not so sure about his or my sexuality/gender anymore"

Eta: how many potato head toys does the average family purchase in their lifetime anyway? How does this change really affect anyone personally if you weren't even a customer? Were (general) you in the market for a potato head and now feel you can't pull the trigger because of this kind of change?

It’s marketing 101

When is the last time anyone here mentioned Mr. Potato head or even said his name? Or thought about him? Or bought one? It’s probably been a good long while.

Now it’s on everyone’s lips and in many Amazon shopping carts.

I don’t know if you are referring to my comment about it being shoved down our throats but I wasn’t just referencing the stupid potato. It’s the whole cancel culture that is shoving things down our throat and making those who don’t agree with canceling that particular thing feel guilty. I agree that certain things need to be changed but the line needs to be drawn somewhere. No reason to change a kids toy and make it headline news. No reason to take wholesome children’s tv shows or movies and put a plot twist in it that makes little kids question their gender at 5 years old bc of what they saw on tv.

I mean, they are even going after dr. Seuss!!! ENOUGH!!!

That's how it works. Remember years ago when it was announced that Twinkies would be discontinued and Americans started jumping off bridges? They bought every last snack product on shelves like it was toilet paper in a pandemic and then a few months later the company, and America, was saved by a buyout that brought twinkies back to life.

Same thing happens with guns. As soon as there is a hint of infringement on gun ownership - there is a spike in gun purchases. Some if not all of this noise, is marketing.

People are going insane. They think we have more than 2 genders and we have to tip toe around everyone’s feelings. Our history is being destroyed because people don’t like what has happened in the past and I feel bad for future generations as this world is out of control.

What I am confused about is, wouldn't a transgender female identify with Mrs. Potato Head and a transgender male would identify with Mr. Potato head. So is the new "Potato Head" geared towards only gender non conforming people? I am not sure how it makes it more inclusive. Does it now have all of the male clothing and female clothing and accessory options in one package? I'm just not sure who Mr. & Mrs. Potato head were excluding. I mean, my Potato heads have walked around with an arm for a nose at times, lips for an eye ball. I think the potato head was about as inclusive as you can get.

They will actually still be Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head. It just won't say it on the box, but the the pieces will remain the same.

You can’t assume that because it is a “mr” that he can’t wear a dress. They don’t want kids to make those assumptions today.

Thanks for this cause I was so damn confused how dropping Mr meant anything.

I still think it’s dumb no child would assume this just by playing with this.

If they do it’s the parents fault. Let kids be kids they probably wouldn’t even think of any of this stuff if parents weren’t shoving it down their throats that only girls can play with dolls, or boys can’t wear makeup etc.

We are acting like kids are adults when they’re not and they don’t care about these things only adults do.

If it helps some people feel more included, then why not?
