Covid test question
I’ve been hearing you can test positive for up to 3 months.
So now I have a new fear with traveling....between everyone in my family we have been exposed more times than I can count. We rarely get tested, just quarantine. My kids have had random stuffy noses, scratchy throat, but nothing serious or long lasting. The two times we tested and swore it was covid were negative. For all I know, someone in my house could have had covid at some point.
Let’s say we travel and someone comes up positive but it’s because they had it recently but are no longer contagious we would all be stuck where we are!? Like unable to fly back to NY.
Should we do antibody tests before travel? If you had antibodies could you avoid testing? I’m hesitant to book anything for the summer because this is the crazy stuff that pops in my head.

You don't have to test to travel home to NY. My coworker has been in Florida 3 times in the past 2 months. He never tested to come home. Just got on the plane and came home .

You don't have to test to travel home to NY. My coworker has been in Florida 3 times in the past 2 months. He never tested to come home. Just got on the plane and came home .
You won't get stuck anywhere
I thought you had to test 72 hours prior to returning and than 3 days after you are home? OR just quarantine 10 days.
If we don’t have to test prior to return that eases my mind!!

I’m pretty sure to reduce quarantine time you are supposed to. We are in big trouble if we have to take off another ten days on top of our vacation so I’m doing what I have to do to time it so it’s one additional work day (land Thursday or Friday). I’m even getting crap about that from my bosses! I mean, hopefully come summer this won’t even be a requirement.

This is another reason I made my DH test even thought it was obvious he had it just a day after my positive test. That way, for the next 90 days, if he came into contact with anyone who was positive he wouldn’t have to quarantine again and if I’m he continued to test positive, it wouldn’t be considered a true positive.

This is another reason I made my DH test even thought it was obvious he had it just a day after my positive test. That way, for the next 90 days, if he came into contact with anyone who was positive he wouldn’t have to quarantine again and if I’m he continued to test positive, it wouldn’t be considered a true positive.
I’m starting to think we should just test every exposure for that reason. Or maybe every two weeks. I just need a real vacation and I’m willing to drive my family nuts haha
Makes you also wonder with things like school sports where they test them twice a week...a kid tests positive he first week and the whole team has to quarantine and can’t play. Is this a true contagious positive or were they asymptomatic a month ago and are just testing positive still?!

I would personally rather quarantine longer at home than waste a day of my vacation standing on line at an urgent care to get tested. Gtfoh

I’m not sure if it applies to the NY quarantine and domestic travel (probably not) but you can return to the US without proof of a negative test if you have proof of positive covid 19 test results within 3 months of your trip and a letter from your doctor saying you have been approved to travel.

This is only the US requirement, not the NY requirement.
We tested positive in January and just got back from Utah. I had to test my kids before leaving to go back to school. Do a PCR as close as you can to boarding your plane so that you won't have results back until you get back in NY. We did the tests at the airport. I was told if it comes up positive the DOH will release them from quarantine bc of their recent positive and release from isolation in January. If it comes back negative they have to quarantine and get retested in 4 days. Try to figure the logic in this one out.

No they really don't. And within the state the departments disagree. I spent hours on the phone with people from different offices telling me different things, that differed from the NYS websites as well as the CDC guidelines. This is why I laugh when people on here keep saying "believe in science," "follow the rules!!!" If only it was that simple and if only the people who were supposed to know what they are talking about actually knew what they were talking about.

FYI for the OP - we were able to test at the airport at Xpress Check. A lot of the Xpress Mani/Pedi places are converting to covid test centers. It's behind security so you need to leave yourself extra time - we cut it very close and it was stressful but if you give yourself an extra 45 minutes/hour it wouldn't be a problem. Most places have a lot of accessible testing options now but this was by far the most convenient. We had to walk past it to get to our gate anyway.
For those of you wishing to travel, it requires a little more planning and research than the past but it's totally doable. Hopefully NY eases up on the travel restrictions soon because they are beyond ridiculous and doing absolutely nothing to stop the spread of covid.

And then we wonder why people skirt the rules. It's just easier not to bother because it's not even enforced anyway and none of the rules make sense and they all contradict each other
