NYS Contact Tracing
Just was contacted by a NYS Contact Tracer because of a possible exposure.
They said that they will send me texts regarding symptoms, possibly on a daily basis.
Why are they doing this? Can they actually track your whereabouts? I don't like this "Big Brother" monitoring and I feel that I am being treated like a child due to the stupidity of others.
Maybe they should spend more time how to get a better handle on vaccine distribution as opposed to telling people the obvious.

Someone had to give them your name. They don't track your whereabouts.
Did they say where/who/how the possible exposure was?

Someone who is Covid positive that you were in contact with, whether you realize it or not, gave them your name. They are doing this because we are in the midst of a pandemic for a year. They are trying to limit the spread. They are not tracking your movements.

This. They are trying to stop the spread. You were exposed and could potentially have contracted it. You start shedding the virus 48 hours before symptoms show up so if they quarantine you before the shedding starts, you won't potentially spread it to others.

And they always determine the whole entire class has to quarantine even though they wear masks all day ans have those stupid shields in their desk.
Most of the time no one calls you till day 6 of your quarantine. Last time DOH didn’t even call or contact tracer no idea if it’s because we all just had it.
Contact tracing is a joke the only reason they called is cause of the school.
When we had it we got called 3 different times and nobody asked where we were who we were with nothing!

Our school will email and call if you need to quaratine. We now have special seating assignments for the kids so this way they only have quratine kids that were in a 6-10 ft radius, rather the whole class.

DD's school calls for possible exposure. They don't leave it up to the state contact tracers. DD is remote but my sister works for the school as an aid. She wasn't told about possible exposure until about 4/5 days past being exposed. So it's basically a moot point then.

NYS Contact Tracing
They should’ve told you the date of exposure, and you’re supposed to quarantine for 10 days. They’ll text you daily to ask if you have symptoms (just a yes or no)
The contact tracer that contacted me about my daughter had me on the phone for 15 minutes and was very thorough with instructions.

Our school does the same. They text/email/call and let you know that you are required to quarantine. We have not had to yet but most people have at some point.
Meanwhile, 2 days after DS last piano lesson, his teacher had symptoms and based on the protocols the music center has in place (which I feel are less than the school) he wasn't required to quarantine.

I went thru this. They actually called me 1x. Told me to stay home. Every other day i got a text late in the day reminding i was on day x of y and to stay home. Nobody asked where i was, it was a text alert...nothing more.

I had an employee get pinged when they said they were home and at work, they told them the that cell tower they were registering from was not the one closest to home. They traveled to Florida in December and they are on the quarantine list. My employee had to get an employment verification and submit as hospital employees are exempt from the quarantine guidelines

Where are these contact tracers working that they have access to cell tower info? It's hard for law enforcement to even get that info at times. My SIL was laid off and worked for a bit as a contact tracer for the state and trust me, she did not have access to people's cell tower pings.
My other friends college aged daughter did it while home from school over the summer and same thing.
They aren't the FBI

He sent a letter to a DOH address he was given and never heard anything else.
I’m not sure what or how they do the contract tracing. I downloaded the app available on the phone for a notification if you are near someone with covid in NY and NEVER got an alert. I stand inside covid positive patients rooms with my phone on, millions of times so, I have no idea how this system or process works and it doesn’t seem to be effective most of the time because by the time they reach people it’s days later

I had NYC contact me 3 times. 2 to inform me and I’ve to collect info. When I started to give them my address to send me something, they realized I lived in suffolk and out of city lines. There were going to pass my info to LI tracing to take over. I was told to expect phone calls and texts. Never heard anything else. Crickets. My other friend was hounded!
Then all of us in the exposure circle has different end of quarantine dates. What the heck?

I think for that app to work everyone has to have it activated. So the positive people you were around most likely didn't have the app downloaded and turned on

Something does not seem right about this story. You can't get someone's cell tower locations without their explicit permission and even then it would be difficult. They would need a subpoena. I think that your employee misunderstood something.
