How to keep momentum going

For those of us who were never into politics until -45 became a thing we needed to get rid of, yesterday was a new beginning.

but how do you keep the excitement and interest going?
how can i make sure to stay interested in politics and what can i do to affect real change?
need some ideas!

Re: How to keep momentum going

Speaking for myself, now that I am so invested and know so much more that just four years ago I feel like I can't go back to my "old self". These last four years have made me realize just how delicate our democracy is and I never want to take that for granted again. It is SO important that Americans get educated and involved in the decisions that affect us. We elect these people to act in our best interest and we need to continually hold them accountable no matter your political affiliation.

I now follow many politicians (from both sides of the aisle) on Twitter, I read many different news sites, I have brushed up on my own knowledge of history, I write letters to Congress men and women to express my views and I contribute to causes that I feel will further change and benefit this country as a whole. I also talk openly with my children about politics so that they understand the world around them and grow up informed, particularly about the things that will affect them in years to come.

I am so hopeful for the next few years so I think as we see good things begin to happen it will be easy to keep up that momentum. We are taking back our country and for me that is the most exciting and patriotic endeavor that I've ever been a part of. Yay for change!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: How to keep momentum going

i agree. i always felt i wasn't smart enough to even have a political viewpoint. these last four years have taught me a lot!! i've also learned a lot about myself.

like hofstra, i've heard other people i trust say that it's very important to be exposed to information and opinions on both side. i'm working on increasing my exposure to trusted information from both sides.

i started in about 2018, and plan to continue to put my money where my mouth is. i've begun to donate to causes i've always believed in. i also plan to put more volunteering into my life. i've done some, but not enough. even if i don't do things on "the front lines," i want to take some burdens off of those who can better use their resources making the bigger efforts. MLK wouldn't have gotten very far if he also had to make the coffee and order the office supplies... so i might continue feeling that i'm not smart enough to be out front, but i'll make it easier for those who are.

LOVE THIS

We always pick a charity to donate to for DS's birthday. They are usually animals/earth related, but maybe this year we can pick one that's more humanity-oriented.

DH is my news source, so maybe i'll get him to give me daily updates instead of waiting until i ask.

also like hofstra's idea of writing to our reps. Will definitely do that.

NYT has some great daily commentary that is not just political based. I get those and read them daily.

WSJ, also, you can peruse the headlines.

It's hard to keep up on everything but stick with what interests you.

I LOVE her!! I read her letters every day on FB. Absolutely check her out, she writes with a great blend of current events for the day interspersed with the historically relevant tie ins as CookiePuss said. She also goes live in the afternoons and takes questions as well.
