I don't get the attention seeking social media posting.
You got the shot, good for you, yay.
I don't need to see it on social media.
What do you want? A medal? A like?
I don't post when I get my gyno exam.
Yay! I got a pap smear!!

Well they post it and then about twenty of their friends post how excited they are because they get to go next week to get theirs!

But I’m sure cuomo will write a sequel to his book on his perfectly executed vaccine rollout.

I often wonder what we did before social media.
I mean how did anyone survive without knowing what someone ate for lunch, what their steak dinner looked like, when they had a medical procedure, when they were in the ER, how busy they were today or what their very important opinion was on important social and political issues?
How did anyone function without constant likes and approvals from their friends and family and distance acquaintances?

LOOK AT ME!!!!!

Lol! People post because of you get the vaccine you’re a hero, a martyr who is saving this country. Not one person on my feed has posted their symptoms after they got the shot. I haven’t seen one informative post on social media about the side effects or what they went through. Only on here!

Maybe they didn't have symptoms? Idk. On my feed I've personally seen people post follow up symptoms if they've experienced them. I guess it depends on the poster.

There is no question that the distribution is a hot mess. But, parents want schools open. You can't expect schools to be open and not have teachers towards the front of the line. Schools need to be open. More than restaurants, malls, theatres, and most other things. So, vaccinate the teachers and get children back to school full time.
As for social media...I personally will not be posting that I got mine tonight. But, I don't care if someone else does. People are very bothered by what others post on social media. Who really cares?

I 100% agree that teachers need to be near the front because schools need to be open. But I do think anyone 75 and over should have had the opportunity first. Because that is the group with the worst outcomes- regardless of anything else.
The fact that people in that age bracket are struggling to get their vaccine as younger people (regardless of profession) are breezing in in front of them- is what is wrong here.

After medical professionals, those 75 and older should definitely be next in line. As far as essential workers, I happen to think that remote workers should not be included in phase 1b. Essential workers are individuals who go to work IN PERSON. It makes me insane when I see fully remote teachers getting the vaccine, but in the same breath saying they don't think schools should be remote through June. So...if that's your thought process, get on the back of the line.

I agree, I think it is disgusting. The whole roll out, chaotic mess of scheduling, stupid people. Sorry you have to deal with that. Idk why after a year, we can’t get one thing right with this virus. Hopefully the vaccines supersedes all expectations and we got that right, finally!

I hope they get appointments soon. Are all states a mess? I’m not sure about Nj, can people go to another state to get the virus? But I’m sure we are mess here too, they were already delayed a week for elderly patients because they didn’t submit paperwork in time. Lame!

Here in Monmouth we are a mess. Apparently I'm hearing there are only like 500 doses a week allocated. People are scheduling into Feb/March.

Thanks for sharing this link. I see this is a new realease in vitro study with certain strains. I’ll def look more into it. But the claim of preventing covid (like the CNN article u posted) started way before Pfizer published their new in vitro study.

The CNN article was about the Moderna vaccine, which posted their info on preventing Covid before Pfizer. Moderna published their info in December.

I see. The article doesn’t provide much detail. I’ll have interesting info to look for and read this weekend! Ha!

I’ve seen both, positive and negative. Some didn’t experience side effects at all, some experienced pretty serious side effects. I gotta say though, comments made by some to the people that are experiencing serious side effects are pretty sickening, pretty much saying that they’re making things up.

As an IT person, I can't believe how horrible the website is. They really should have contracted with Ticketmaster who already has 80% of the technology and most of the infrastructure for this. A few integrations with backend systems would have been all that was needed. Ticketmaster has the waiting room technology, etc. The NY site only updates appointment status every 3 hours on the main page, and then huge pages of text for each day with 90 days on a page just to see that 3 hours ago all the appointments are taken. When the site is actually working, that is. Horrible.

I agree with you for the most part (I have elderly parents with conditions), but teachers are kind of front line workers. I don’t know any facts about it spreading in schools, so no comment there. I don’t know what the right answer is, really, but I am angry.

The thing that really pisses me off is they included 1b and now they can’t fulfill that. The whole trying to get an appointment is not elderly friendly.

Yeah I mean we can't have it both ways. So many people on this board were angry and frustrated with school closings and desperately wanted their kids in school... well now they're in school and the teachers, nurses, essential workers who have kept us afloat for the past year DESERVE this vaccination if they want it. My FIL is high risk and I really want him to go get vaccinated, but he's not eligible until 1C.

But you're right, it's very frustrating that they rolled out part 1B and don't have the facilities/appointments to let anyone in 1B actually get it. I feel like there's a lot of locations in the works but they should've been working on this months ago.

ETA: And I like that people are posting when they get the vaccine. It gives me an opportunity to ask what their experience was like from real life people that I know and trust. That might make the difference between someone deciding to get the shot or not.

Yes to this! I am a teacher, I am choosing to not get the vaccine right now, but let me tell you it IS spreading in schools, big time. Maybe not among the children, but the children are 100% bringing it into the building and spreading it to teachers and staff.

I have witnessed so many teachers getting it within these past 2 weeks alone, it’s disturbing and scary. Will they be okay in the long run? It looks like it but who really knows.

So I agree that senior citizens really should be able to get the vaccine above other groups, but so should teachers (yes even young ones!)

Exactly! Why reinvent the wheel. Several other companies have something very similar, with much bigger user bases, and they can keep up with the demand.

Yeah I love this it's not spreading in schools, one of my friends( teacher) has had to go back to teaching remote at least 4 times recently because students are positive.
When I ended up in the hospital a few weeks back they told me the amount of kids from the high schools they were getting was crazy.

They are not getting it from the school but say it is from outside. Most HS's are not even full time and barely have any kids in the class and they are not near each other in the classrooms, like the younger kids are, whom are not getting it as fast.

They say it's not spreading in schools because most outbreaks have been linked to get togethers outside of schools. ESPECIALLY in high school aged students. They are not staying away from their friends and hanging out as normal.
When students are in school they are being made to social distance, wear a mask properly etc.
When they are home, all bets are off.

If it was spreading like wild fire in schools, trust me, the schools would be shut down like they were from March through June

But regardless teacher's need to get the vaccine as a priority. But so do elderly and immunocompromised people- even more so. And the fact that they can't is the fault of the way this is being handled by the state.

Okay so I apologize in advance for the venting session, but I just don’t know what to do anymore or who to turn to.

Yes, if schools are following all the safety precautions then it should not be spreading in schools. But my school is NOT. I have 19 first graders! 19!! I just got a new student last week...a lot of the students who were remote in the beginning chose to come back in person.

We are certainly not 6 feet apart, and these kids' masks are falling down constantly. I feel bad, it's not their fault, but they are sneezing maskless/mask down more than you know.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm just frustrated at this point.

Yes!! I can’t believe this is what they put out there. There are so many better ways.

I think if the website worked better I wouldn’t be as frustrated. It’s everything piling up that is just infuriating me.

I think high school teachers have it worse than elementary teachers. Elementary are at least the same small classroom all day every day. When I say it’s not spreading in schools I’m mostly talking about elementary as that’s all I really know.

Re: So disgusted with the vaccine distribution

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/governor-says-no-federal-stockpile-vaccines

The federal stockpile of coronavirus vaccines was already gone before the Trump administration pledged last week to release it rather than hold on to second doses, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said Friday.

“States will not be receiving increased shipments of vaccines from the national stockpile next week, because there is no federal reserve of doses,” Brown said Friday, after receiving confirmation from Gen. Gus Perna, chief operating officer of the federal vaccine initiative Operation Warp Speed.

State public health officials were expecting to receive additional coronavirus vaccine does doses next week following this week’s announcement from the Trump administration that it would no longer hold on to reserves to be used for second doses. The administration also said that states should extend eligibility for the shots beyond front-line healthcare workers and nursing home residents.

Some state and city leaders have been kept in the dark about the dwindling supply of additional doses, the Washington Post reported Friday, and were expecting new shipments next week to begin inoculating other high-priority groups, including seniors and people with underlying health conditions that increase the severity of COVID-19.

Have these kids gotten sick? Our elementary schools seem to have the least amount of sick kids.

Get ready to be even more disgusted. The federal stockpile of vaccines they wanted to release. You know the ones for the 2nd dose.....there is no stockpile!!!!

Just another major failure by the federal government.

So if you had one dose that's it??

I doubt any State has an answer for that right now, since they are just finding out about it now. Wow, this really puts a huge dent in the plans....

Well it's a good thing I never got my hopes up of ever returning to a semblance of normality. Chat Icon

Same. I keep saying, it's not going back to normal in 2021. Every time my DH is like, well hopefully soon I'm like NOPE.
He says I'm pessimistic.
I say I'm realistic.

My appointment for the second dose is 2/5 so I'll keep update whether it gets canceled or not

Okay I apologize in advance for the venting session, but I just don't know what to do anymore or who to turn to.

We are certainly not 6 feet apart, and these kids' masks are falling down constantly. I feel bad, it's not their fault, but they are sneezing maskless/mask down more than you know.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm just frustrated at this point.

I'm so sorry.

It shouldn't be like that. It's not right.

I hope you were able to get an appointment (haven't read every post.)

There are plenty of keyboard warriors who have no idea what it's like but you are living it. I'm in a high school so we have different issues but my friend teaches kindergarten and is also having a hard time. The kids are just being kids but her classroom is overcrowded and it's very hard.

Vent away.
