Belief in afterlife?

Had this conversation with. A friend and curious to get more opinions. I do believe there is something more. I know many that swear they’ve gone to psychics/mediums and therefore are convinced - I really want to believe....

Re: Belief in afterlife?

I believe in an infinitesimal amount of dimensions in our universe(you tube Carl Sagan fourth dimension for explanation if you’re not familiar). We can’t see or understand the fourth dimension and beyond. In our dimension time is a one way street. I believe the afterlife is related to this in some way that humans in our dimension cannot interpret.

I think the idea of an afterlife is a nice thought but the logical part of me can't get past the idea that when you die, you just die. That's it. I hope that I am wrong though.

Belief in afterlife?

Not at all...I just think we choose “signs” that have been there all along, we just weren’t looking for them.

Re: Belief in afterlife?

Yes.
This is what I believe as far as afterlife.
Heaven, purgatory, and hell.
Vast majority of people go to purgatory to be purified of any sin they haven’t repented for upon their death, to become ready for union with God. (There are levels of intensity of this purging, some are closer to heaven some closer to hell & require more or less cleansing of their soul).
Next largest amount go to Hell after repeatedly choosing to reject love until death. (Hell is a choice.)
Fewest amount of people go directly to Heaven after living such a holy life that they’re ready for union with God directly upon their death (saints, actually, though not all are ever formally beatified or canonized of course).
The only way, besides time, that souls can get out of purgatory to heaven is through prayer and sacrifice by those of us on Earth, to help atone for their sins.
So every Monday I fast on bread and water (sacrifice) for the specific purpose of helping to release souls from purgatory to heaven... more souls are actually released to heaven on Christmas than any other day of the year. There are also specific prayers we can say for the souls in purgatory to mitigate their suffering & help expedite their release into heaven.
That’s my belief about the afterlife.

No I don’t and I think that psychic mediums are praying on vulnerable people, taking money to manipulate them in the worst way.

Yes. I brought my sister in law once so I did a session to just for the fun of it. He said some things that made me wonder but then I watched a documentary on the tricks they use so it was easy to see what he did to "know" the information he had. I've also been to group sessions and found it somewhat comical watching what people were falling for.

But I have a friend who's family is obsessed because her sister died young and they are constantly trying to connect with her and other loved ones. I know some people believe but it's all so completely fake if you are aware of the tricks they use. It's sad watching them take money from people like this. And lots of money. $150 for a short session. It's criminal.

But believing in an afterlife is different than believing in psychic mediums. You can believe in one without believing in the other. Although frankly, I believe in neither.

Why do you ask?

I truly envy people that have faith because I have none and I believe it is much easier to believe in an afterlife than thinking that once it's over it's over.

However, you have such detailed beliefs of what happens. Just out of curiosity - where do your beliefs come from when no one has died and come back to tell us? I don't even feel like the bible gets to this level of detail regarding who goes to purgatory, heaven, hell etc.... I just don't know how anyone speak with such conviction in their knowledge of the afterlife when their is absolutely no way of actually knowing. I don't have faith in an afterlife so I can say I *think* when we die we die, but how could I know? I can't really....

I ask as I know many who have gone and there is no way these people would have known what they said. One went to Teresa Caputo years before she was even famous and she is not one to fall for anything and she said there was no way she knew what she told her. My friend went to a group one and no one knew about some things she came out with. She also taped it so we all could hear it and many family members came through and names that she would not have known.
My child just saw another person and she came up to her, had no one about who she was at all. Never met her, never sad her and what she told her was amazing. It was detailed and not just something in general as I know exactly the story and unless you knew the entire story, which how would you know from a random person you just met, there was no way she could have just pulled it out.

You can believe whatever you like but there are known tricks that they use to give you the information you are looking for. If they truly had this “gift” would they really be looking to make money off of it? The whole thing is a racket but I guess if it gives you comfort then they are providing a service.

how did you come to these beliefs?

For myself, I think souls are split into six parts and you inherit parts of past relatives, past friends, and certain traits are inherit to the person, and others are more mailable. I think that the soul is only given at birth. As for after life, I think parts of you can go to heaven, other parts come back. It is not to redo past wrongs, but to continue the human cycle. In Judaism, there is no real heaven, hell, or purgatory. It is to my understanding an energy that surrounds everything.

How are names tricks? Many names that could not be researched even if they knew the person before they did the reading?
My child did not pay for her reading, the woman came up to her, popular person in the area. She didn’t know her, her name, anything about her. Gave her detailed info about an aspect in her life that she could never have known.
Just like others have gifts to do things, like surgeons or carpenters, etc, 99% of people use those gifts to make a living. Why wouldn’t they unless they were wealthy and didn’t need the money.

Yes I believe many of these things as I have watched many, many of these people and some are so general. Full names without pushing the person to get it out and the person not talking to get more info is not the same.
