I didn’t realize they had a “newer” student union. Ah, it’s been 20 years. Regardless, still, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the hospital. It isn’t “right there” as a PP said. I wasn’t really aware of the hospital being “right there” when I was on the main campus.
I graduated in '97, the newer union was finished towards the end of my time there. It was so much nicer and easier to get to.
The hospital is good walk from the union and main campus. It was a looooong walk just to get from the union to the Life Sciences bldg and they were on the same side of campus! LOL
I graduated in 2004 and I never even noticed  All my classes were in the library anyway.
And I parked by the sport area because South P was not my thing...
I don't miss squishing on the bus from South P. LOL

If they specifically said "Stony Brook University" and not "Stony Brook Hospital will administer at SBU", it may not be directly tied to the hospital. There are a lot of connections between the two, but they are also separate entities for a lot of things. You would need to know the inner working of how it's being set up to know if it's affiliated with the hospital.

Please all this going back and forth nitpicking every single thing someone says is absolutely exhausting. If you didn't notice a HUGE hospital towering over the buildings right across the street, then there is a bigger issue going on.
The hospital is right across the street. There are multiple doctors offices right by the college campus on the same side. It would take less than 2 minutes for an ambulance to drive across the street. Having a vaccination at the student union is basically the same as having it at the hospital campus. The testing is done on side of the campus as well. It's all one big University campus regardless of what roads are there.

The ONLY place you can get vaccines, unless there is some "underground vaccine club" I don't know about, is at the doctor's office, a hospital or a pharmacy for something like the flu shot. All of which are places that are well equipped to to distribute a vaccine.
Furthermore, you seem to be VERY hung up on this vaccine's side effects. Do you never take vaccines or medicine? Because if you do, you must be aware there is not a vaccine OR drug out there that doesn't have a very long lost of potential side effects. Some that literally list DEATH as a possible side effect. Literal death. Yet people take them anyway because the risk of major side effects is very small and the benefits far outweigh the probability that anything will go wrong. Such will be the case with the COVID vaccine.
You really need to educate yourself before speaking.
Sorry but I am not comfortable going to a CVS when they tell you that they might need to resuscitate you if you have a problem getting the vaccine. Are you?

They never said someone would have to resuscitate you. They said there is a very slight chance of an allergic reaction and you should be watched for 20 minutes and have an epi pen readily available. They didn't say you would go into cardiac arrest.

The medical regulator also said vaccinations should be carried out only in facilities that have resuscitation equipment.
Who said cardiac arrest? Again many don’t know they have allergies and I wouldn’t want to go through an emergency in a drug store.
To play devil's advocate, CVS would DEFINITELY have Epi Pens 
A regular doctor's office or urgent care would call an ambulance if someone went into anaphylaxis, just like a pharmacy would. The only way to be fully prepared for a true emergency would be to get the vaccine in a hospital- which a) don't have the resources to do this and b) healthy people should not be in during a pandemic
I suppose if anyone were truly worried, they could try to find a vaccination site as close to a hospital or volunteer ambulance corp as possible, which would shorten the time to help should something happen.

There is a big difference between vaccinating 5,000 first responders and the general public. I suppose hospitals could, in theory, set up outdoor vaccination sites but they would need the resources to do this and resources are in short supply at hospitals across the country. It would be great if they could find the resources, especially if it meant those who are more comfortable near a hospital would be more willing to receive the vaccine.

No. I was usually in the library where my department was and then went home.

Just updating that as of today ALL hospital employees at my hospital are vaccine eligible and can schedule an appointment. Only employees that can’t are the ones that are still working remote or only provide telemedicine. I’m so grateful they moved so quickly on this

can't wait for my turn.
although i was told that it would be late winter, i have a feeling it won't be until the spring... i feel like a kid waiting for christmas.

Thank you. My parents had their first dose yesterday and will have the 2nd Feb 4th. Both said they didn’t even feel the needle and are feeling fine so far.
My husband’s grandmother had the vaccination a few weeks ago and should have the 2nd dose soon. She has had no issues either.
All 3 have serious health issues so it was never a thought not to get the vaccine

Got 1st dose today. Arm hurts like hell but fine otherwise. My friend had a reaction and wound up in ER but shes ok...

Thank you so much for updating! I got the first pfizer dose a couple of days ago and I had no side effects (other than a mild sore arm) but I am very anxious about the booster. Glad you are feeling well!!

You will be ok! Only one of my coworkers had a reaction after the second dose but he wasn’t feeling well before he even got the second shot so he prob should have rescheduled so it’s hard to say if the shot made him “more sick” or he was going to be sick anyway. It wasn’t anything covid related. More along the lines of a stomach virus.
Glad people are getting it and tolerating it well!!

My friend who is a doctor got his second dose the other day and he came down with a low grade fever and chills. He said he felt like he was coming down with the flu. Another doctor he knows that got the second dose had a few days of diarrhea. The second dose is when most people feel the side effects.

Yes, I work for a hospital and they did voluntary antibody testing a while back. At the vaccine site the person who checked me in said I would be getting a follow up as more info is available with future antibody testing, the info was very limited but I’m sure I’ll hear more. My hospital is good at keeping people in the loop.
I did read a recent article (but could not find the source of the information to validate) that antibodies dropped off by 50% at 119 days post vaccine . I’ve been looking for the research to back that up
