How can i follow the in and outs of politics?

Sometimes I get overwhelmed, between having SO many people/positions to be aware of. Cabinet members, senators, representatives, at both state and federal level, etc.

How do you monitor what is going on, who is who, etc., especially with a changing regime?

You Have both State and Federal representatives.

For the Federal government there is the President he or she is the head of the Executive branch of government. Then you have the Congress, which is made up of The Senate (Senators, two from each State) and The House of Representatives. They are the Legislative branch and are supposed to write the law. Laws get written in the House, then the Senate has a chance to look over things, then they come together and vote. If they agree, it is sent to the President to sign into law. Then you have the Judicial branch which is made up of Federal courts. There are three levels to the courts, the Federal court, then there is an appellate court and the Supreme Court.

Separately there is State Government. There is a Governor and an Assembly. There are also State courts too.

Basically, you look at the title then the name.

How can i follow the in and outs of politics?

I should have clarified that I understand the logistics of it.

More so, I mean the ever changing names, what are they currently voting on, what stances are they covering, etc.

Sign up for a political newsletter. Of course, depeding on what you want to hear, they can skew to your political leaning.

I get OZY and The Atlantic newsletter briefings each day. Those are good ones to start with. If you listen to podcasts, most major outlets have their own "here's whats happeing" type updates.

Good luck, maybe AP or NPR. Newsmax has been good if you don’t want to follow the media.

I get a daily brief from the NYT which is very helpful. There are links to the articles that allow you to read them without a subscription.
I also read the WSJ daily.
I follow Heather Cox Richardson on Facebook who is a political historian and puts out a frequency newsletter that gives some historical perspective.

Re: How can i follow the in and outs of politics?

I'm pretty well informed and politically involved but I don't always necessarily know names so don't feel bad about that. Knowing the party in charge is more than half the battle. We're still waiting on NYS results because the absentee ballots haven't been counted yet but right now the Assembly, Senate, and obviously Gov are all blue.

Maybe you could follow your local reps on social media to know more about what they are supporting or not. Find your reps here:

What the cabinet members do doesn't usually make mainstream media unless it's major or controversial. I would pick a news outlet or two and just check their politics section periodically.

Newsmax is a conservative bent - the opposite of NPR or AP.

Fox might as well join CNN after this election.
