NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
DH & I decided today that Thanksgiving will be capped at eight people. The six people who live in my house and my in laws. My parents will go to my brothers house. Siblings all understood why Thanksgiving will be celebrated separate this year. We will do a zoom that night after dessert. Christmas is looking like it will be the same- ten people are less. We also decided we will stop going out to restaurants temporarily and having playdates with friends. My children will only see their grandparents and the children in their class, until further notice. I wish everyone would do something similar to prevent a full blown shutdown.

How would anyone know if you had one or 2 more than 10 in a private home?
They wouldn't because its immediate family but I remember how people were calling the cops for people having more than 10 gathering when this all started. I took my kids to east wind on Halloween to trick or treat at the shops (candy tables were set up outside each shop) and the cops were there. Someone actually called the police to report that kids were trick or treating. You know how crazy some people can be...
Wow. Trick or treating is not a crime. The fact that the cops had to waste their time on that, is disgraceful. Whoever called should be ticketed to be honest. Taking them away from important calls over something 100% not criminal.
Maybe if they started fining you for wasting cops' time these Karen's would take a seat.
This happens ALL THE TIME in my neighborhood. They call the cops on outdoor seating, lines for stores where people are less than 6 feet apart, everything. And everyone follows the rules. I've never seen anyone without a mask. People jog with masks. They're doing absolutely nothing wrong.
So what are they calling about? That's crazy.

I understand bars-people get drunk and can be careless. But if you are sitting at a table and eating & drinking, why is that risky. Doing this to restaurants doesn't make sense and just hurts an already hurting industry.

The last person I know who was positive did barely anything since March. Didn’t go to peoples homes, never let anyone in their home. Didn’t go out to eat, etc. As soon as they went back to work they got it.

NYS orders new curfew on restaurants
The numbers are rising, schools are getting more cases due to what people are doing at night and on the weekends. There are huge crowds of people hanging out, kids doing sport and parents watching with no masks, people trick or treating in groups of 20 or so with no masks. Today I was getting bloodwork for my daughter and about 10 people starting congregating literally on top of my daughter. I NEVER say anything as I am more or a live and let live type of person (except complaining to my husband lol) but I went crazy telling them to back off and there was still social distancing in effect, then proceeded to tell all the elderly there to put the masks over their noses. I was pissed. People need to start listening and following the rules or this is just going to be the beginning of the restrictions.

This is how I feel. We are going to my mom's for TG and there will be 10 people there.
We will not be dining out anymore & limit who we see & where we go.
My anxiety has been out of control today- just thinking of another shut down.

My anxiety has been out of control today- just thinking of another shut down.
Clearly my anxiety is pretty bad too, as I just realized I have five children, which means seven people live in my house, not six.
I am having anxiety today that reminds me of the anxiety I had in March. I am praying that we can avoid another full blown, spring shutdown, and if it does go that way, I pray it isn't three months this time.

So, here's the thing. Cuomo today said the three big contributors to this surge we are seeing are restaurants/bars, gyms, and private household gatherings. Halloween weekend caused a lot of outbreaks. Listen, I can't stand Cuomo, BUT in this instance, I feel he is doing the right thing. He is not shutting down the whole state, he is not shutting down restaurants completely, he is trying to bring down the numbers in the least disruptive way possible.
To answer your question, people listen because the longer they don't, the longer the lockdown. Some red zones were lifted in only two weeks, others still remain five weeks later. Because it depends on cooperation. I don't know about you, but I have no interest in another three month long stay at home shutdown. My kids can't be home from school for the next three months. So, listen, and it won't come to that.
TBH, I am not scared of this virus. Maybe I should be, but I am not. However, many people are (and those fears are founded). This isn't about you. I suffer from horrible depression and anxiety and almost became suicidal back in March and April. But I still listened, as did my family. Because that was the unselfish thing to do.

Is it really that big of a deal? As everyone on here has stated, restaurants are usually pretty empty by 10:00. The only thing that is really going on after 10:00 is people hanging out at the bar. In groups. I've gone out to dinner many many times since restaurants reopened. There have been quite a few restaurants that I've seen large crowds at bars, no distancing, no barriers, just like the good old days.. I can only imagine that increases after 10:00. With numbers going up, more restrictions are going to be put in place. This is one I can live with if it helps keep numbers low and avoids more restrictive shutdown

Lol. I think of that often. I've been in restaurants twice a week at least since June. We aren't allowed in the office anymore so we meet in restaurants for team meetings and I go out weekly with my family for dinner on Saturday nights. I definitely should have gotten something by now.
And my husband goes to the gym too...

I think it’s a way to show that he serious so this is like a small flex. Sort of like a wake up call to start taking things seriously as we enter the colder months… Because numbers are going up across the country.
I know people sort of just think it’s a cold, but we really have to remember that well over 200,000 people have died in a matter of months… Dead… Gone forever.
And don’t tell me well they were old or sick… Because who cares?… Many people have health issues in America or are old. It doesn’t mean you deserve to die an untimely death, alone.
I think so many people are so desensitized.

Exactly. What about all the essentials who are around people all day? Or people who never stopped seeing family and friends? But it can only come from this event or that event even though none of them have had overwhelming spikes.
It sounds like you and your husband tske care of yourselves and they have said over and over, nutrition and being healthy, just like with every other illness helps you more to combat it.

I think so many people are so desensitized.
I don’t think anyone would ever say anyone deserved to die but with every other illness you have more of a chance of you having more severe symptoms if you have underlying causes or older or not live a healthy lifestyle.
I can tell you that while people say so and so was healthy and didn’t have underlying causes you just never know. I personally know a few issues people had and never knew.

Not 6 feet apart when in line, taking masks off while seated for outdoor dining but not eating yet (or finished eating). Walking down the street maskless.
I appreciate the fact that they take this seriously but calling the cops is overkill. I have no idea what the cops do when they show up. And I can almost guarantee they do show up.

Not 6 feet apart when in line, taking masks off while seated for outdoor dining but not eating yet (or finished eating). Walking down the street maskless.

Wow. The order states you can remove your mask at the table once seated. There is nothing stating you have to have it on when not yet eating or finished eating. Standing up and walking yes. Seated no.
What a waste of cops time.
They probably do have to show up. But there is literally nothing they can do about it

But there will be one, and it will be because of people failing to quarantine and/or inform others when there has been exposure, symptoms, or a positive test. People will shrug it off and do what suits them. School, shopping, restaurants. People will carry on with no regard for others, and they will get us locked down.
That and anti-maskers who rationalize away their selfishness and get too close to others with no mask on. Even if you don't mind people without masks in public. Even if you don't get sick. These people will get you locked down.

I think the restaurant is to prevent restaurants form turning into bars & people hanging out just to drink after they have eatrn their required food. That's just my guess.
Some places ( in other countries ) have had city wide curfews which never made sense to me, streets & stores will be more crowded as everyone tried to do what they have to in a small window.
Cases are increasing though, so , i guess they feel they have to do something. I don't know if they have any idea what specifically is causing the recent increases..
Going from 50 to 10 for gatherings seems extreme. that seems like intentionally trying to prevent holiday parties, but that only works if people care. There have been reports of several weddings & other parties over 50 people, and those are just the one that got caught.
This does get me out of Thanksgiving with my i-nlaws though. . .
Our Thanksgiving is supposed to be 12 people and I dont see anything wrong with that
How would anyone know if you had one or 2 more than 10 in a private home?
They wouldn't because its immediate family but I remember how people were calling the cops for people having more than 10 gathering when this all started. I took my kids to east wind on Halloween to trick or treat at the shops (candy tables were set up outside each shop) and the cops were there. Someone actually called the police to report that kids were trick or treating. You know how crazy some people can be...
Wow. Trick or treating is not a crime. The fact that the cops had to waste their time on that, is disgraceful. Whoever called should be ticketed to be honest. Taking them away from important calls over something 100% not criminal.
Maybe if they started fining you for wasting cops' time these Karen's would take a seat.
This happens ALL THE TIME in my neighborhood. They call the cops on outdoor seating, lines for stores where people are less than 6 feet apart, everything. And everyone follows the rules. I've never seen anyone without a mask. People jog with masks. They're doing absolutely nothing wrong.
So what are they calling about? That's crazy.
Not 6 feet apart when in line, taking masks off while seated for outdoor dining but not eating yet (or finished eating). Walking down the street maskless.
I appreciate the fact that they take this seriously but calling the cops is overkill. I have no idea what the cops do when they show up. And I can almost guarantee they do show up.
Wow. The order states you can remove your mask at the table once seated. There is nothing stating you have to have it on when not yet eating or finished eating. Standing up and walking yes. Seated no.
What a waste of cops time.
They probably do have to show up. But there is literally nothing they can do about it
Wow! That’s insane! I bet those cops hate whenever they call!

I agree with a PP who said this is a "small flex" or a warning type of thing.
I 100% understand the curfew for bars. They don't want all these college kids coming home and hanging at the bars. Holiday party season is coming and they want a deterrent. I get it.
But I feel bad for restaurants. DH and I have been going out a lot lately but we aren't 100% comfortable with the inside dining yet so we have been taking 9-9:30 reservations. We like it because there less people and we aren't limited to how long we can sit at the table. I feel bad for these restaurants who have the late night crowd like us that will have to close earlier now. These restaurants are hurting so much to begin with.
We have to take what little steps we can to prevent a full blown shut down. Our kids need to stay in school.
As for private gatherings, they will never be able to enforce that unless you are pissing off your neighbor.
