I am so confused by the travel rules.
It says anyone coming to NY has to have a negative test min. 3 days before flying in then when they get here they have to quarantine for 3 days and then on the 4th as long as its a negative you can go out! which is fine for people that live out of state.
What I don't get is if I plan on visiting FL for say only 3 or 4 day which I have done to visit family. I basically as soon as I get there go get tested (will my insurance even cover out of state tests??) and hope I get it back in time??? !!!!

Yes - a day or two after you get to FL you would need to get a test there, and then upon arriving back in NY you would quarantine for three days, on day four you will get tested again and then once you get a negative result you are free to move about. The alternative is going to FL, not getting tested there or when you return and quarantine for 14 days upon arriving in NY.
I have been tested many times already as has my family. The test is quick and painless and most places make it easy to schedule and provide fast results. To me, this is much better than a mandatory 14 day quarantine. I have not been charged at all for the test. I believe insurance will cover it regardless of the reason that you are being tested.
I actually think that this type of testing is what gives us more flexibility and will help curb the spread. Is it annoying and inconvenient? Yes. But the alternative of not being able to travel or having to quarantine for two weeks for leaving the state is way worse.

I don't believe anyone is supervising/enforcing this but I think that the concern would be if you traveled OOS via a plane, for example, come back and don't follow the rules, then test positive, perhaps there could be consequences?

I haven't seemed many claims of them monitoring it. I think that it's more of the honor system.

That's what I have heard from people I know who have travelled.
Maybe it's a deterrent? Like saying this will scare people away from travelling?
But nobody who I know has had any restrictions or paperwork or phone calls.
So I'm reconsidering rebooking my trip that I was holding off on.

Ok so let’s say you go to Florida. You have a hotel booked for 4 nights, you get tested on day 2 and boom! You’re positive. Now what?
Do you fly home with a mask and maybe expose people on the way then quarantine in your house?
Do you become a squatter in your hotel room for 14 days that you only have booked for 2 more nights? What if they can’t accommodate you? What if you can’t afford 12 more nights? Do you go to a shelter?
This really seems kinda nuts.

So I follow someone on Instagram that has been on vacation to Mexico 3 times in the past 4 or 5 months . She lives in California.
Someone just asked her if she has to quarantine or get tested etc upon returning from Mexico and she said no.
Not sure if it's different returning to NY

I have a coworker who was stopped in the airport but most people I have heard from haven’t been.
Nobody stops you if you drive.
But if you do test positive and it’s found out you didn’t abide by the rules you are subject to a large fine.

I am in Florida now. I had to come due to a family medical situation. I thought all people leaving, even NY residents, have to get tested before coming back to NY. Let us know when you get back. If you take a later flight into Islip I doubt they will be there at all.

Yes - unless you are gone less than 24 hours. Otherwise you are supposed to quarantine for 2 weeks.
I'm not sure though who is monitoring if there was a test taken before the traveler returns?

It requires 2 tests and the theory is that if you are sick 2 tests have a greater chance of it showing up in one of them. One test does nothing. So they are requiring two. One to show you were “not sick” prior to coming and one to show you still aren’t sick. If the first one is positive you should be staying where you are and if the 2nd ends up positive then you need to quarantine.
It’s all to keep each other as safe as possible. We are spiking all I’ve the country. No one is telling anyone not to travel all they are saying is do your part to try and keep us all safe!!
It’s about the greater good!!

New travel rules
Bunch of BS to scare people. My family has been back and forth to Florida and Alabama since the Summer. Flying and driving...no stops, no monitoring, no paperwork.
