Travel rules
Any idea how they are enforcing the current travel rules?
My aunt and uncle are going to Florida to see their son for 3 weeks. If I’m understanding correctly, they have to test 3 days before they can fly back to NY and then also have to quarantine at home for 4 days and then test again. My aunt and uncle are not the type to follow these rules so I’m wondering how they actually enforce this. They went to florida over the summer and said they walked right past the person at the return gate handing out the forms to be filled out.

My friend went to Wyoming which is on the list and they enforced nothing. Didn't ask for any info, didn't call, nothing.
I have no idea how or why but it isn't the first time I heard it
Another friend had the same experience coming back from South Carolina. Waltzed off the plane unchecked at the airport in NY

Supposedly now if you don’t fill out form, you can get fined $2,000. I am traveling soon too and not sure how this is supposed to work and about getting tested while away.

The thing is, for one of the people I mentioned at least, they wanted to fill out the forms etc but couldn't find anyone to give them it. She even looked around the airport and nothing. Finally she had to leave to catch her Uber home.
There are a lot of cracks in the system to slip through it seems.
And not sure when the rule about getting tested to come jome came into play but nobody I know who has traveled has had to test before coming home. Unless that's new

The form can be filled out on the states website.
They do have a new rule now. You can avoid 14 day quarantine now by getting COVID tested three days before coming to NY, quarantine for three days in NY then test again on the 4th day. We will be doing this when we return to get my kid back to school.
Enforcement is they can fine you if they find out you didn’t fill it out. All it takes is a contact tracer to find you (somebody you know gets tested positive and they call you asking where you have been).

Gotcha. I didn't realize forms were on the website. I haven't personally traveled recently just what I heard from friends.

Yes, it’s new. Just started this week. Kind of hard though, as while you’re away, you have to find a place to get a rapid test. People are having problems with finding rapid test while away.

Yes, it’s new. Just started this week. Kind of hard though, as while you’re away, you have to find a place to get a rapid test. People are having problems with that.
I think the poster above indicated if you don't get tested while away you can do the standard 14 day quarantine when you get back.

Not sure but I went to a bridal shower in October and some of the brides family came from a state that was on the advisory list for NY. They drove up a few days prior and were at the restaurant with everyone and did not quarantine so IDK if they are actually doing anything here to enforce it

I hear a lot of this. It is very hard, in a state this size, to keep track of everyone. I'm sure they do their best but it's a daunting task

It's an option not a rule. You can still fly home and just quarantine for 14 days as usual.
If you prefer to not have to or can't You have the option of doing it this way which is quicker

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Anyone thinking of traveling to New York for Thanksgiving should be aware of new quarantine rules in the state.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says you should not land in New York if you do not have proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
Cuomo announced Friday he has called for increased police and National Guard presence at the airports to better enforce the state's new testing rules going into the holiday.
"We are worried about holiday season, we are worried about behavior inside the state, we are worried about behavior outside the state," Cuomo said. "People should be cautious about small gatherings this year. I've said we have a very strict quarantine policy in place for the holiday weekend travel period. We are going to be increasing enforcement personnel at the New York airports."
Anyone who arrives in New York needs to take a test three days before arrival that must be negative, then quarantine for three days after arrival, and finally take another test on day four after arrival.
Essential workers and travelers from bordering states are exempt from the new restrictions.
Cuomo said he spoke to Mayor Bill de Blasio about increasing the NYPD at the airports and he wants people to know he is serious.
Travel expert Molly Fergus said the new rules will provide more flexibility, but will also require travelers to prepare.
"Pack this into your plans to get the test and then prepare for contingencies, so if you are positive, what does that mean, talk to your employer, talk to families, check cancellation and return policies," Fergus said.
The decision from the governor comes as the U.S. has set yet another coronavirus record as 116,000 cases were reported Thursday. Experts predict the numbers will keep going up as the weather cools down.
