THIS IS US!
Last season was my favorite season and man, they started off this season great!!!!
SPOILERS BELOW....
I love how they integrated covid and black lives matter into the storyline almost seamlessly... They couldn't really do it with Rebecca getting lost and eating in the Chinese food restaurant, but I gave them a pass on that lol.
AND WHAT?!? Randall's real mom is ALIVE?!?!?

I thought it was a great episode. Definitely a surprise ending. Wondering how that is going to play out. I hope it's not dragged out too for long and winds up giving Randall some peace

I loved it! I was confused though because I thought the scene with Rebecca getting lost was shown last year when they had Thanksgiving at Randall's house.

it was, but it was a flash forward at that time, didn't actually happen on thanksgiving

Same. I found it annoying how they kept the Covid issue going through the whole episode. This Is Us is not a documentary. I watch it as an escape and don’t expect them to tackle real time issues. Other than that, I thought the episode was good.

I've seen many people on FB make the same comment. But to me this show coves so many real life "heavy" topics, I don't ever see it as an escape. They've dealt with infertility, dementia, racism, LGBTQ issues, anxiety - just to name a few - that many people are dealing with in real time. This is not a judgment at all. I just don't understand feeling that way because of this episode

I’m surprised so many people loved it. I thought it was just “eh”.
And do we need a long lost relative every season?? First William, then Nicky, now Randall’s mom? It just seems a little lazy to me.

The episodes were ok. I hated that Covid was in it as well. I get the point that they deal with heavy topics always but this was one I could do without. I am tried of people in real life wearing masks and dealing with it I don't need it on my television as well. TV is an escape as others said.

I completely agree with you. I saw those comments too on FB and now here.
I get that TV is an "escape" but there are some shows that I feel should incorporate real time issues - like This is Us, Grey's Anatomy - and there are shows that are truly an escape from reality - like General Hospital.

Same. And it felt like the Covid scenes were forced... I get they were trying to fill in what they already introduced but I didn't like the flow.

The covid on the screen makes me feel better.
But like every other thing they deal with & are faced with, all just a part of life. I like that about the show. That and the time traveling ;)
Seeing people deal with covid on tv makes me feel less alien.
It is after all art imitating life.
I just noticed the long lost pattern now too.

Finally watched it yesterday. I didn't mind the Covid references at all. It's part of life now and it isnt the first show to address it.
I didn't care for the episode thou. It was basically 2 hrs of what we already knew form last season. With the exception of Randall's story. I thought the flashbacks to when he was born was the best part of the episode. And that last scene! Interested to see where that goes.

I definitely enjoyed the flashbacks with William and Laurel. It was very interesting. If I'm being honest, Randall blowing off his sibs annoyed me.
Kate is his biggest fan and that was just mean.
I hope this whole season isn't devoted to his mental health. There was a whole lot of that last season and it needs to move forward. Although I wonder if his new black therapist will be Laurel? Laurel's other bio child? I feel like it will tie in somehow.

There were only 4 episodes, and since the 1st were on the same night, it went by so quickly.

Finally back, but found last night's episode boring. So Kate had closure after all these years. I would've just seen he was a loser and left.
They are always all so melancholy. I was saying that to DH last night. I get it's a show, but come on... we're all depressed nowadays with Covid and all. I need something good! LOL
I find Kevin and Madison's relationship awkward. There's nothing there. No chemistry. I liked her better when she was just Kate's friend.
And now a whole new story with Randall's mom. Ok... I don't get it, but hope it goes somewhere.
I wish he could tell Kevin needed him last night too.
Ok... said my peace. LOL I know it's a show, but was expecting more after the long break.
