Gift for neighbor?
Our neighbor 2 houses down just had a baby. We have never talked to them but they put up one of those lawn storks announcing the birth. I thought it might be nice to buy them a little something to congrats them on the baby.
The neighbor that lives in btwn us told us her dad recently passed away during this whole COVID thing. I figured since there's so much negativity, it might be a nice gesture?
Any suggestions and please tell me if you think it would be weird?

A gift card to a local eatery. You could do a bagel shop if you wanted to do like $20.
A simple card that says I saw your sign and wanted to send congratulations your way would be appropriate I think. Sign your name and house number or whatever so they know you live on the block.
If they put the sign up, they must want the neighbors to know.

I think it's nice and a neighborly thing to do.
A target gift card is always appreciate with a new baby for diapers and wipes etc

I don't think it's weird at all! I would get a little outfit or something else for the baby. A gift card is nice, but it's a little impersonal. Since you really don't know them, this is a good way to meet your neighbors, so giving a physical item gives you something to talk about. Like you could say something like "it's been a while since I've been to Carters -- it's so fun!" Or even, "this was so helpful when I had my kid, I thought you would want one too."
Before I had my daughter, i would just wave to the people across the street. When they found out I had a baby, they rang my bell and gave me a gift. I was so touched! It's really a nice thing to do.

Would definitely get a cute outfit for the baby--maybe a size or 2 up. Love doing that for our neighbors!

I don’t think I would unexpectedly knock on the door of a neighbor I’ve never met who just had a baby. Especially right now if you’re not sure about their comfort bringing physical gifts into their home.

That is very thoughtful!
I think a little outfit or a picture frame is perfect. A gift card is nice too depending on what you want to spend.

Yes, during this pandemic we have to think about all these things. I think it's still a nice gesture. You don't have to go in the house, but I would still give a gift. They bring their groceries and and Amazon packages in, right? What's the difference with a gift?

I wasn't planning on knocking, I would just leave it on their porch

I like this idea, simple card IMO is all that's needed. If you feel it's not enough a gc to a bagel shop sounds yummy

That's very sweet to do. I think an outfit or some socks and bibs for the baby would be useful and nice.
ETA: A neighbor had a baby like a year ago, but we met and talked because we both have cats (she moved out). I got their baby an outfit with cats theme. She loved it! I got it a few sizes bigger to make sure the baby was able to wear it at some point. So if you know your neighbor has pets or something they like, it can be cute and more "personalized"

Our neighbors recently had a baby. We're friendly with them though but I couldn't find a registry for her (it's their 2nd). I ended up getting a basket and filling it up with Aden & Anais blankets (my fave's for my DD) and some other useful infant items (onesies, bibs, etc). We left it at the doorstep and rang the bell. They were super appreciative.
I think a gift card to Target or Buy Buy Baby for wipes, diapers, etc. is good or a small gift basket with some baby blankets, onesies, socks, etc is also useful.

Gift for neighbor?
I think t hat is super sweet of you. My oldest is almost 9 and I still smile and feel appreciative when i think how thoughtful it was for a couple of my older neighbors to bring a welcome baby gift for both my girls. I didnt know one very well and the other i didnt know at all and I just thought it was such a sweet gesture. I would def get something for the baby-- a cute outfit, or blanket or a stuffed animal (we happened to recieve personalized blankets from one of those neighbors which i still have). ANyway It really is the thought that counts but I would go with a physical gift rather than a gift card. If they are hesitant about accepting gifts they can leave it in their garage for a week!
