To just run a quick errand...like get gas, run to the ATM, the post office...not like for a night out or a Target run or something. Like be gone for 10-15 mins type of thing.

At like 9 1/2. For like you said- a quick run to the store. No more than 20 min or so.

I started at 9 with my older DS. I have left both my DS home alone together for quick trips during the pandemic though (10 and 8) as it was frowned upon to bring kids to the supermarket.

I probably left her at 8 or 9, maybe? I don't really remember.

I was always more afraid of something happening to me, not her. Like, I go out to get milk and get into a car accident. Then, she's alone for much longer and doesn't know where I am! (Yes, I think about those things! LOL!)

She's 12 now and we're OK leaving her for a couple of hours. But because of covid, there's no place to go anyway, so we're home now! LOL!

Same. Around 9, but I started more only because I don't want to run out with the boys with masks, touching everything, etc. I work from home so usually would do most errands when they were in school.

I started when my oldest was 10 running quick errands, but only during the day. Now he's 11 and my youngest is 9. I have left my oldest alone himself or in charge of his brother most an hour and a half as long as I'm close by. My 9 yr old I have left for shorter times if my oldest is out at a friends.

DS might have been as young as 8, but definitely by 9.

My DD is 9 and I just started leaving her home alone when I walk the dog early in the morning for like 10-15 mins. She was nervous at first but is now fine because she doesn’t want to come with me. I can’t picture myself leaving her home to run to a store and her being ok with that. Every child is different though.

If we are going to get coffee, 7-11 or the Chinese place down the street - we have been leaving him home alone for those types of things since he was in first grade.

But you have to know my son. He’s probably more mature than my DH. We lock the door. Tell him not to open for anyone but if there was a fire or that type of thing to run to our neighbors next door or across the street.

Good lord my DD is clearly immature!! She can’t even go upstairs alone to pee, no way she’d stay home alone for even 5 minutes!

Ds has been asking me to leave him home while I run his brother to school, which is 3/4 of a mile up the road. I'm gone for 4-6 minutes. I just didn't know if that was allowable yet. Thanks!

Same! My 8 year old tells us "you can't leave me alone". She won't even wait in the driveway alone by herself if we are running behind... like she needs to be up our butts 24/7. If my husband and I tried to go for a 5 minute walk around the block while she stayed in the house... she would definitely be crying.

Oh boy

It's weird because my DD won't go in the bathroom in our bedroom alone to brush her teeth at night.
One of us has to go with her. It's like she's scared of our bedroom. And our house is tiny so if I'm in the living room and she's in my bathroom brushing her teeth we are mere feet away.
So in a lot of ways she's like that.
But what allows us to leave her alone is her hatred for errands. And wanting to stay home if she is on a facetime type call with her friends...god forbid she should leave the call to come with us to the store.
So I give her the option of coming or staying and she always opts to stay if she's on with them.
I guess that overrides the fear of being alone.

My oldest is 9, and I will still only leave him alone if I run next door to the neighbors to drop something off. In my defense, he is the oldest of 5, and I would never leave him in charge of hid younger siblings, so there isn't much opportunity to leave him home alone.

My youngest was the same. He wouldn’t stay home alone, but he’d stay with his brother who’s 18 months older. When his brother fell asleep for the night he was on the phone telling me it was time to come home. ??

He changed when he was around 12. I thought the day would never come!!
