Cuomo wants NY to be the first COVID free state
Is this even possible? Isn't it a virus? Even with a vaccine, it will never go away completely correct?
I was so frustrated listening to him today... He says that local leaders need to act but, then he says that he makes the rules... I just can't listen anymore. The only reason why I did is that we're close to an area that is spiking and I wanted to hear his plans for schools...

I didn't watch, but what are his plans for schools? I heard the rumor is he is looking to shut down because he wants to get ahead of it this time. We are in DOE and my kids haven't even made it into school yet (tomorrow is supposedly their first day in person).

He's virtually meeting with religious leaders today to discuss the importance of masking and social distancing and depending on local leaders to enforce guidelines.

There are two zip codes in my county at 30% and 25% respectively...
They don't care, they never did - they had large gatherings back in March and April as well and kept many of their schools open. They had a huge measles outbreak last year as well.
The one promising thing though is that with these large clusters, COVID hospitalizations are very low.
I just will be mad if the metrics in the areas where most children attend private schools will cause the county/regions public schools to shut down because I know the many of the private schools will remain open even if they aren't supposed to.

Covid free state? Our numbers are going up. I read we are over 3% infection rate in the city now. So much for sub 1%.
Then you have the idiots in Queens who thought it was OK to have a 300 person wedding with a band and the idiot owners of the catering hall that allowed it. Then you wonder why this isn’t going away. People only give a shit about themselves. Amazing.
The bride and groom of that wedding need to be outed.

The highest infection rates are zip codes in Orange and Rockland Counties (30, 25 and 18% as of yesterday) - those above are in the top 10 as well. He mentioned today also that there is an area of Nassau that is high.

100%!!! They should all be fined as well! To me, that is borderline criminal behavior. It's a complete reckless disregard for the community. I had to go to a soccer game this weekend. It was at a vast field and parents were told they MUST wear masks. Guess what? EVERYONE (minus the kids playing) were wearing masks. No problem. Nobody was happy about it but if we want our kids to be normal kids, guess what? We have to do our part.
So if you MUST go to a large gathering, wear your damn mask!

I have several friends who live in Rockland. It is just downright corrupt what goes on up there. I would be so pissed if public schools closed and the privates carried on with the demographic that started the outbreak to begin with!

Absolutely. I question whether or not the orthodox population even knows there’s a pandemic. They have no link to the secular world. They attend school for just a few years and most are never taught to read or write in English. Girls are often not taught to read or write at all.
The leaders need to be blamed. The adherents don’t know any better. No tv, computers, newspapers. The rabbi makes the rules and the rest follow because they don’t know any different. I don’t know the stats on deaths but they must be dying in droves given the close quarters they tend to live in. It’s sick and sad.

Exactly this. I know for a fact there were communities still attending school back in April/May when things were at their worst.
From what i hear they abide by their own laws when it comes to many different things, and they hold up in court. It is a sad situation.

DH used to work in an area with a lot of Orthodox and I can tell you that you are correct in that they have their own laws that seem to override the laws in this country/state etc
In case a like this though, it really isn't fair when it involves a contagious virus that we need to contain to get lives and livelihoods back to normal.

I don’t know the stats on deaths but they must be dying in droves given the close quarters they tend to live in. It’s sick and sad.
It’s unfortunate because those of the Hascidic population here don’t have understanding of social norms so social distancing isn’t a thing for them. When I go to the retail stores the women have no regards for personal space. If they want to shop on the rack you are at they will just stand right next to you and reach right in front of you. Many don’t know English so will not respond or aknowledge if you speak to them. Its so odd.

Cuomo wants NY to be the first COVID free state
I believe New York could be the first covid free state. It’s a very easy accomplishment when your entire population flees the state and there are no people left. Hey, me governor - my body, my choice. I am NOT being forced to inject myself with that poison until I feel it is safe or necessary.
