CDC Thanksgiving Guidelines

Certain areas of the state are currently hotspots due to gathering last week for the Jewish holiday. This is a fact. 13% percent positive in Rockland County! This disease is not done because we are done.

Re: CDC Thanksgiving Guidelines

Again, I have seen my family every week, sometimes multiple times a week since May.
It is that same family I will be spending Thanksgiving with.
They can talk all they want.... I'm not avoiding my family on holidays indefinitely.
And the majority of people I speak to are doing the same.
Why do they even bother with these guidelines for holidays? The people who plan to gather with family will still do so.
The ones who weren't going to are still not going to.
Nobody is going to say- oh well the CDC said I shouldn't so I guess we won't do anything this year.
People's minds are already made up.

They are just noise at this point.

The Halloween ones are funny, too. I can't grasp how traditional ToT is the same risk category as "going to an indoor haunted house where people may be crowded together and screaming."

I also want to know who compiles these lists because I'm totally submitting my resume.

I read an article that categorized decorating one's own home as a low-risk activity. I mean, I guess I get why they don't want to label something as no-risk, but I don't understand why this activity was even included. Placing some pumpkins around my house seems quite benign of an activity to be on a list of potentially risky behaviors.

What about sitting on your couch, with a mask on, staring at a wall? Would that be low risk or no risk?

Definitely "low risk", so...I wouldn't risk it. Chat Icon

ETA - But seriously they listed playing music in your house as only low risk. It's not even funny anymore how ridiculous this all sounds.

I have full on COVID fatigue at this point. I cannot process another rule or regulation and and I am at the point where I am just sick of being told all of the million things that I need to avoid, not do or forget about for an indefinite about of time.

I have had enough.

Tomorrow is promised to NOBODY and while everyone is avoiding their friends, family, cousins, aunts, grandparents the days are ticking by and you won't EVER get this time back. I am NOT willing to continue to live my life as if I am already dead. I want to experience things and see people and travel and LIVE. We can't be locked down from everyone and everything forever, we should be able to live while still being cautious.

A virtual Thanksgiving? Yea, the CDC can just f#$k off at this point. My kids haven't seen ANYONE to speak of since March, they are in school 2 half days a week, they won't be able to TOT, we haven't been able to take a vacation, they don't get to participate in any clubs or activities.......................what the hell kind of life and childhood is this????? I am miserable. They are miserable. The world is miserable.

I am simply over it. I will be seeing my immediate family for all of the holidays and I will let the cards fall where they may.

This! And while we are hiding from a virus with a very high survival rate, this could well be our last year of life, or our parents last year of life or any other family members last year of life.
Because there are so many other things that can kill us- and have more of a chance of killing of to be honest- way more of a chance.
And imagine your last year on earth being spent locked in your home on a fuking ZOOM call for Thanksgiving. FUK THAT
I'm done too.
And yes, Cuomo, and the CDC and everyone else can go fuk themselves at this point, you are 100% right.

Yep!

I also never believe their reason for spikes. A School can close on the second day of opening. Media and people run with the story of how schools are unsafe because xyz had to close. Because in two days someone got infected at school, tested themselves, got the results and spread it everywhere. It can’t be that someone went to school positive. Or there’s a spike that falls on the holiday. All of a sudden it’s because everyone was hanging out maskless. So it may take some time to show symptoms, get tested and get the results unless there is a holiday or major event. Then in that case Covid acts more rapidly.

See that's the thing- our holidays are always quiet.
We don't have a big family and Thanksgiving is spent with just my parents and us.
Christmas is only a few more than that.
So I don't relish sitting home with just DH and DD like we do every single other day of the year.
I like the holidays to be just a little bit more special- like they were when I was a kid- I remember looking forward to seeing my grandparents, aunts, etc because we were a small family then too

CDC Thanksgiving Guidelines

Thanksgiving is just immediate family so that will go on as planned regardless of what the "rule" may be. We have seen them all for the last few months. Christmas, we are just doing a wait and see. We usually have about 30 people so depending on what is happening in the world we may just do immediate family again. I really think that the CDC is talking about families traveling for the holidays and I kind of agree with that. I do not want someone from a high infection state coming here without quarantining.

Same here. Would I go to a wedding? No! But I’ll see the 12 people in my family of origin/extended family. I know a 55 yo man who dropped dead the other day. The idea that he spent his last year on earth avoiding his loved ones has shaken me to my core. I will wear masks, I will avoid anyone other than those who matter most to me, but I’m done avoiding my mom, siblings and nieces and nephews. If the numbers spike - which they may well, but not because of ppl like me; they are spiking bc people are having enormous gatherings and think the rules don’t apply to them - then I’ll change my tune depending on how the higher risk members of my family feel. But as long as 1 percent of the population has a virus with a 96 percent survival rate, then I am ok with seeing 12 ppl.

I know a few people who have died recently -of believe it or not!!!-- non Covid related issues and I feel the same.
The thought of your last year on earth being devoid of family, friends, traveling on that last vacatiom. Omg it's devastating.

Nope...I’d love a quiet holiday! We had a really great Easter.

We’ve also seen everyone in our families for most of the Summer. Outside, and when the kids were not back in school.
Once every kid in the family is exposed to 19 other kids in their classrooms...that totally changes things for us.
