Truly with all due respect.
Its not fair to expect someone to change their entire wedding for you. I know you are NOT saying that exactly. However you did ask for the exception.
You decline the invitation and say you can't go. "Unfortunately we will not be able to attend".
I don't think you bring up childcare. If they call you and press you can be honest and say "We don't have anyone to watch DD so unfortunately we can't come."
I think you decline but there is no need for the reasoning why.

ITA. End of story. weddings are adult affairs IMO and in my circle. Of Course on this board you have the people who have to disagree, but regardless, decline. No reason should be given and DEFINITELY not because you can't bring your kid.

I’m glad you said that because I was starting to feel like a weirdo because I didn’t have or want kids at my wedding. LOL
For all the people who keep saying weddings are for families... That’s fine and I agree... FOR YOU. For me, and my family and circle of friends, weddings are adult parties. Kids change the vibe. I’m THRILLED when my kids aren’t invited to parties and weddings because I can relax and enjoy adult conversation without worrying about who got more chicken fingers than his bother.
