Why would you want to be back in an office if you don't have to be. I never left my office and it's no picnic. They can broadcast from home, it's a money saver for the companies, kinda no brainer
Because some people function better in an office.
Some people don't have the space or peace and quiet at home to be productive.
Some people thrive on teamwork and in person collaboration.
Some people enjoy leaving home for home and the office for work. The separation of work and home life.
Some people like to socialize with other humans.
Some people like to have a routine.
Some people like to get up and get dressed up every day.
Some people suffer from depression and need the distraction of an office and co workers
I can go on...
But it comes down to DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS.
Not sure what that is so hard to understand.
Why do some people like pizza and others don't?
Why do some people enjoy golf and others don't?
I don't question why some people would be 100% fine never leaving their homes again- working in their PJs every day from now until eternity and not encountering another human- because everyone is different and what works for some doesn't' work for all.
So there is your answer.

I don't question why some people would be 100% fine never leaving their homes again- working in their PJs every day from now until eternity and not encountering another human- because everyone is different and what works for some doesn't' work for all.

So i had to go to Hauppauage today for a work lunch.
Good lord, everyone must be back in offices there in full force. The traffic on Motor Parkway was worse than in March.
The traffic on the LIE at 430 pm was INSANE.
The restaurant was packed with people from offices having business lunches. The shopping center where I had to park that has a lot of lunch places for the offices in that area- packed.
I told my boss- we must be the only hold outs that are refusing to open the office and have to resort to meeting in restaurants every week to have in person interaction and collaboration.
I couldn't believe the amount of cars on the road. It was frustrating driving home in that but felt like old times and was nice to see people back to work and making money.

My employer (large company) is allowing only work-site essential employees to access our satellite office in Melville. The Manhattan office remains closed as well for only essential employees. Only 3 of my coworkers have gone in maybe 2x a week to process the mail and ensure printing jobs are completed for courthouses that aren't allowing electronic filing.
The CEO sent an email yesterday telling all employees (30K) only 10 offices nationwide will be opening September 14th and most are in low infection rate areas like Virginia and NH, Maine, CT (and only a staggered work schedule). I haven't been in my office since March.

I’m surprised you’re not allowed back in. Even some NYC corporate offices have opened to let employees in. Granted it’s only been like 10 people who want to go in.

I'd gladly sign a waiver. I'll sign anything they want.I would never dream of suing a company or anywhere over me getting sick. That's insane.

Doubtful a waiver would fully stand up. Like the waiver you agree to by buying a ski lift ticket. You can’t waive everything

How can contact tracing help someone actually win against a company? I feel that there would be way too many viriables to even get a chance at winning a case.

What do waivers protect or the point of them? Is it just an assurance for the business and a way to try to keep people from suing?

You can dine indoors and go bowling.
People are going to work.

Eta:to the OP: Maybe they prefer to work at home? Some people are nervous to go to their "offices".
My future sil refuses to go back to work until they have a vaccine. She is happily working from home.

Negligence in cleaning, letting customers not wear masks when shopping. Lawyers can always find something and then it’s all about a settlement.

I know for whatever reason you have something against me, and that's fine. I go to an office everyday Always have as an essential worker. I get dressed , made up, accessorized everyday, always have. Even if I had the LUXURY, because that is what it is, to work from home, I would still be getting done up. I socialize with other people, but fortunately I have friends and family so don't need to rely on co-workers. Basically I'm just saying for the people like me who believe Covid is real, because Science, interacting with the general public all day, who don't want to wear a mask or are too stupid to know how one works is not fun. And for jobs like News Anchors that does not in ANYWAY require them being in an office because lets face it they are quasi famous and and they can film anywhere, and companies could cut down on hair , makeup, etc costs, NO I don't understand why they have to go in to a studio, SO THERE IS YOUR ANSWER. But Nell, if you miss going into work everyday, we are hiring. Feel free to PM me your resume.

And for jobs like News Anchors that does not in ANYWAY require them being in an office because lets face it they are quasi famous and and they can film anywhere, and companies could cut down on hair , makeup, etc costs, NO I don't understand why they have to go in to a studio, SO THERE IS YOUR ANSWER. But Nell, if you miss going into work everyday, we are hiring. Feel free to PM me your resume.

I feel the same way, and I agree w the quote above. I am very fortunate and lucky to be able to work from home. I personally DO NOT feel comfortable going into my office. The virus is aerosolized- the scientists have already proven microscopic particles can linger in the air for hours and potentially infect someone. My building includes cafe workers and other businesses. Our bathrooms are in a hallway that is shared w those businesses. I trust the building cleans as much as they can but lets get real, its very easy to touch a surface and unwittingly touch your face and not realize you did so. My job isnt forcing us to go in, so we arent. Those who want to come in and take the risk- FINE but dont belittle others who fail to share the same dang attitude as you.

I won't quote because it's messed up.
But I never said the virus wasn't real. I can believe it's real and still need to be in my office to perform my job to the best of my ability. One has nothing to do with the other, not sure why anyone would say that.
Our business is suffering because our sales team is stuck at home, not able to visit customer, not able to build the personal relationships that anyone in sales will rell you are vital. .in person meetings, lunches, dinners, happy hours, seminars etc.
It's not just me saying this...there are 100s of people who work in my company saying this. All the way up to the CEO who is concerned for our business. If working home indefinitely is just as good, why don't the numbers show that? It's getting bad.
In terms of my social life, i go out constantly. I don't need my co workers to socialize with. I do need to work with them though .
Again, i am definitely not alone or strange in feeling this way.
And again, different strokes for different folks.
And I have nothing against you personally like you said. I truly do not. You just asked why people want to go back to their offices and I listed several possible reasons. Some apply to me. Some don't.

Just to clarify my post wasn’t about whether people should feel comfortable or not to go into the office. I was saying the only option that NJ residents can do on Nell’s list was school and office. I know people who started going into the office, but it’s only a few. The edited part was answering why the news anchor may have been reporting from home. A lot of people are nervous about physically going back to work.
I’m trying to understand where I was belittling anyone?

I hate this quoting feature, the part of my post referring to the belittling was not meant for you...it was for those on this thread who make it sound like the News12 crew should be coming into the studio to work just because other offices are also open, and of course those who want to call Murphy and Cuomo wimps and vaginas because they impose restrictions which are keeping us all safe.
