Remote Distance option
My district just sent a survey to get an idea of how many families are interested in remote learning. They aren't sure what they are doing with that information yet but just want to get an idea of numbers. Maybe if they have around 20 for each grade they could re-arrange the classes and make one class the remote only class. This is for elementary.

Remote Distance option
No remote option here. They are providing a hybrid model and that's it. They say they don't have the staffing to give a remote only option too.

Don’t know where you live but everyone I know is still socially distancing. We are seeing one friend each of my kids who’s parents also are home. Many of DD’s friends aren’t seeing anyone still and aren’t going anywhere.

We have 3 plans.
1. Normal school
2. Hybrid but k-7 go everyday they just do not move through the school other than bathroom and recess HS goes every other day
3 full remote
You can select full remote for your child but once you do you are full remote for the year.
I’m excited for my son to go back.

IME from my neighborhood, kids are and have been socializing with other friends and family. Now kids have started sports so they are around more kids.

In my district we do. K-5 will go full day and middle/high school are hybrid but you have the option of remote at any grade

As it's been said, NYC has a fully remote option.
However, it seems to be that there will be a remote 'district' so to speak, so if you choose remote, your child will potentially will not have the teachers from their own school. Which makes sense because while you can go remote at any time, you cannot go to blended from remote except at certain times that will be indicated.
My son's school sent their own survey and in their survey, 88% of families chose the blended model. Which sucks, FWIW, its basically 5 days out of every 15. But I'll take it if it's the only option

That's unfortunate, because many parents who are choosing remote want to be able to send their kids back in person as soon as something gamechanging, like a vaccine happens. Those time limitations will be frustrating.

Yes - most places that are offering a choice are making you do it on a semester by semester difference.

This is what's killing me. I am not confident in the blended model NYC proposed and not comfortable sending DD back to school.
However, I'm also nervous about who her teacher will be if we choose remote (which is what we're leaning towards). She also has an IEP and I'm wondering how they are going to make that work. Her currents SETTS teacher is out on Maternity leave until October/November.

It would be tricky, and I'd get it if they can't, but it's predictable that kids who have never chosen virtual school before would want out after a breakthrough treatment or vaccine...so they'd have some rough estimates to plan to switch gears with.
It's a lot. Maybe too much. I just wonder how they will accommodate the transfer of kids who are sick or quarantined to remote and back during the year.....

I think having a few predetermined times is best all around. They should be planning a pretty detailed transition for kids to start in the new normal with new routines, new rules, social emotional needs, etc. Teachers can't be stopping every time a new kid is back in class to teach them all the routines and help them adjust. A few times through the year, sure.
