Remote Distance option
Do you know of any school districts in NY offering a remote distance option?

Remote Distance option
If you mean option for distance learning only my district is. We are in Riverhead . I hear Smithtown is as well...

Remote Distance option
My district is only if the child has a medical condition (district needs proof) or they are living with an elderly person or immune compromised person. If you don’t want to send your child because you don’t feel safe in doing so, then you have to dis enroll them and homeschool with NYS.

I am a teacher and I cannot wrap my head around the logistics of this.
Will the teacher be live streamed from the class that the child was supposed to be in or are separate teachers providing the remote instruction? I feel like I would have to be a magician to make both work simultaneously. I am also the only person in my district who teaches my subject matter so this is especially concerning to me.
Disclaimer: I have been given NO information/training from my district on how this will play out.

Please be supportive of our teachers. This is way beyond anything we could have ever expected to do. Some of us teach 200 students and it’s entirely overwhelming thinking about this school year. I am worried about how I will make connections with my students, understand how they learn and provide social-emotional leaving our top of teaching.
I am honestly also petrified to teach live remotely. How do you keep students engaged, what if they (or a family member) do something inappropriate? I cringe when I think about the home lives of some of my students and what could go terribly wrong. So many factors to consider.

Our district has two potential plans - hybrid or remote. But if they are approved you can’t choose one or the other.

As you said you have zero idea of your plan, no training, nothing. And it's a month before school starts.
It's unacceptable and a disgrace.
They need to be planning to get these kids in school. Period the end. This remote shit is unacceptable. We have the lowest rates in the country here on Long Island right now
Get plexiglass partions, put everyone in masks and get them in school.
They've been together all summer anyway. Nobody I know is keeping their kids away from their friends anymore. That ended months ago.
This is nonsense and honestly I am so disgusted, angry, and most of all sad for our children.

Duh, that's your job to figure out, and something you should have been preparing for since egg met sperm.
Ah yes I forgot. I should have never had a child in case there was ever to be a pandemic that dragged on for years and rendered our educational system useless.

In NJ, we selected the fully remote option. The other option was 2 days a week in school 3 days remote. The town next to mine is only offering 2 hours a week of in person instruction and no remote option. It is a complete poop show.

Remote Distance option
Almost all districts in my area - the capital district - are offering a fully remote option. It appears about 30% of families are taking that option. My home district is actually designing an entirely separate virtual school. They are hiring a principal who will oversee the day to day workings. There will be set live instruction times. Teachers who are electing to teach remotely have been taking PD since June.

They've been together all summer anyway. Nobody I know is keeping their kids away from their friends anymore. That ended months ago.
This might be true for you, but everyone I know is still trying their best to socially distance. My son has seen no friends since this started and we usually have 1-2 play dates a week over the summer. My sister has only let her kids see cousins and one friend that hasn’t left the house since March and she usually has a play date daily.
I’m not trapping my son in the house. We go to the pool and do other outdoor activities, but we keep our distance from other families. If we can’t appropriately socially distance or wear masks, we leave.

I’m just pointing out that there are definitely families that have not resumed business as normal as you implied with your post.
My son is going back to school since I feel confident that my school is following DOH guidelines.. I like that he will be in a tiny pod and that my DH will be dropping him off at school to keep his exposure to just his pod.

I know there are. I never said there weren't.
There are also people who have yet to leave their house at all since March.
To each there own.
I just meant a larger majority of people judging by what i see in my town, from my friends in other areas, out and about, on Facebook ,etc have been getting together, having small gatherings, play dates, etc

My district in Nassau is offering it. I believe they will have teachers who are not going into the school for medical reasons do the remote teaching. For instance a pregnant teacher who is not comfortable returning. There is no way a classroom teacher can teach in class and remote at the same time. That's just ridiculous to ask of the teachers.
