What's the plan for no school?
Ok, I am very much in favor of going back, but if schools do not, what are working parents of young children doing? Hiring nannies? Tutors? Daycare? Looking at private school options?
I am getting scared that there will be sort of hybrid or remote. I think last semester was God awful and I'd hate to put my poor kids through that again. I do not trust that the schools are prepared for meaningful remote learning. But what if that is the only option we are given? Can we mass protest seeing as how ~75% of the OP's LIF (non scientific) poll wants to reopen in some capacity?
I am thinking nanny/tutor, but I do not even know where to start looking. I wonder if families will get together to share costs? I wonder if daycares will hold their own classes? If in fact the latter becomes the norm, I am quite aware of the hypocrisy of closing schools only to open daycares.

What's the plan for no school?
We are considering doing daycare on the days they are out of school but we need to know a concrete schedule. If that doesn’t work my husband will likely have to leave his full time job and get something part time so he can be with the kids when they are home...

My kids school is announcing its plans tomorrow..I think they will be on line only or hybrid two days in school 3 remote days for middle and high school and half day for k to 5. I am not sure what working parents will do.

I dont have kids but my coworkers with little ones are forming private bubbles amongst themselves...3 of my coworkers, for ex, agree to drop off kids at each others houses on certain days (our job has gone mostly remote but their spouses are teachers or essential workers)..a few others are basically asking their elderly neighbors to step in.

What's the plan for no school?
Most schools will be hybrid as long as Cuomo approves it. Schools will need to be hybrid to meet the DOH’s guidelines.
My school is having after care and it will meet the DOH’s guidelines.
My son goes to a separate daycare but we’re not sure if my DH will just take care of drop off and pick up to help minimize exposure to others.

Most elementary schools are trying to bring all students in full time, understanding that these kids cannot be home alone. My home district is giving parents who want it the option to do complete remote. Most people I know are sending their kids back.

There will be a lot of college kids home that could be useful in these situations. I know my own daughter is not going back this semester.

Our district announced the K-6 plan yesterday. Full day schooling, in the building. 15 kids max to a class. Aftercare in each elementary building. No masks required for students as long as they are at their desk. Staff requires masks. Bus transportation, 1 kid to a seat. Temp checks. Now we wait on the secondary schools (who I know are getting the short end of the stick with a/b days, and some grades in the high school will only be remote I've heard)
School is happening on Long Island unless our number goes above 5 percent right? It's at 1 percent on Long Island as a whole, as of 4:30pm last night. So 99 percent of the people being tested for Covid are negative.

If that was truly the case, schools would be open as normal

They are still figuring that out. Another study confirmed that "children" don't transmit much, but the age of what is a "child" may need to be addressed. Just because humans think under 18 is a child, apparently Covid19 doesn't follow our guidelines.

It's possible that kids start becoming transmitters in Middle School and High School.
It's really too early to tell since there haven't been enough large-scale studies. Unfortunately, September and October will give us a lot more information on age and transmission rates.

When you say Connetquot has almost 2000 students and only one entrance are you talking about the High School?
If so, I don't think this is applying to HS as the poster had said this is for elementary and HS will be more hybrid or remote.

To answer the OP, my son is older, but the plan is that he will come to work with me one day of his home day and be home alone the others

Good luck with staggered drop off times. Parents are going to drop off when it's convenient for them based on their schedule with their work and such.

Our district was going to do this for elementary but then they scrapped it. They'll have an entrance for walking up, an entrance for car drop off, and an entrance for bussers. This is not exactly different than past but I think they're going to have the busses open a few minutes apart rather than all at once.
