I’m a health care worker and I voted for in person. Kids need socialization. Put the kids in mask and call it a day. You don’t like it, home school your kid. Masks are mandated in most public places so these masks won’t be going away for a long time and people need to get used to it. Asking people isn’t a form of communism so people need to get over that too, irs for the general populations health and your own.
Do you think kids will be able to socialize though? I think even with masks, they’ll be stuck in their classrooms for specials and lunch, desks separated, no shared projects, possibly no recess.
I do, for example, there’s no reason why kids can wear masks and play a game in the class, talk to their friends etc. I have an office with 8 of us (totally not ok with distancing but we are a hospital and space is tight.) I wear a mask at all times, we have all be working side by side in offices and on covid floors the entire time. Masks work, hand washing works, we have worked on top of each other the entire time and are ok. Teaching children which can be done from a young age, no touching a mask before hand washing can be done and should be done. Kids can socialize, just need a mask. My 3 year olds went to their pre school end of the year day and wore a mask, if they didn’t want to wear one I wasn’t letting them out of the car. We still don’t go in public, that was the only time but my kids face time me at work and always say, don’t forget to wash your hands before you eat mommy! And they are 3. So yes they can and should be able to socialize

I actually think the governor made a very smart decision on deciding to open schools based on infection rate. If the rate remains under 5% there is absolutely no reason children, teachers and staff cannot go back to school.
It really upsets me that some teachers are actually hoping for remote learning. They should be considered essential workers. Not sure if the union will have a leg to stand on if rates remain low. Let them sue and lose.

Awesome idea... let's all get fake doctors notes for our kids so they do not have to wear masks! Who cares about their teachers, or classmates, or school staff, or anyones families.  If they catch Covid-19, thats their problem... not mine.
Listen to yourselves.... my god... 
And understand whether you like it or not, just like vaccines, mothers will get notes for little Billy to not be able to wear mask.
Yes. That's the point. People - not saying anyone on here, just people in general - will think they are some exception and pull stunts and others will get sick and suffer because of it.
I think most doctors will do the right thing but I don't find it hard to believe some doctors will hear a parent plead their case and then shrug their shoulders and write the note.
I definitely agree about the equity concerns. They are essentially my only hesitation about being more of an advocate for staying remote.
I've been anti homework at the elementary level for many years because of equity concerns, but I digress.

I am actually surprise to hear this. I know many many teachers and not one wants to be home. They all want to be in school.

In Person.
My kids are in camp 9-5. They were masks walking in halls and when they are all together in the gym. They don't wear masks in their small group. They have been at camp for 5 weeks so far and no reports of positive COVID tests. Staff gets tested every week.
If this camp (that has campuses in multiple places on Long Island) and daycares can open safely Why can't schools?!
If districts keep pushing for remote learning, parents are going to push back on reducing taxes and staff. We don't need as many teachers, aides, paras, admin, psychologists, etc if we con't remote learning.
Amer. Pediatrics recommends re-opening, day cares and camps have been opened. Why is there still a debate about schools.
I should mention that SCOPE, the after school program, turned into an all day program for essential workers. Prior to camp, my kids attended. They didn't wear masks at all. They didn't social distance, I can't tell you how many times I came to pick up my kids and kids were hugging, wrestling, sitting so close to each other, etc. To date, no one has tested positive. And these are kids of essential workers were there is a high exposure rate. (the program is still running but my kids wanted camp instead)
So someone needs to explain why schools can't open. It's political, teacher unions and the governor's office.
But yet this and many other camps/programs/daycares that have reported zero cases will be totally disregarded and some ppl will continue believing that covid will run rampant among the population once schools open. Seriously how can ppl just ignore these facts that we’re seeing with our own eyes and continue living in so much fear...”a second wave will definitely happen”...”so many ppl will die for sure”...”ppl will definitely have long term effects due to covid”. But let’s keep ignoring all the multiple places that have not reported any covid cases since they opened, where kids are not wearing masks or social distancing all the time. Going by the logic of these ppl in fear, u’d think these places would be infested with covid cases but they clearly are not.

What is your preference for upcoming school year?
either totally remote or in person mostly normally. I don't think the restrictions they are proposing are sustainable or good for kids mental health.
