District Reopening Guidelines
One thing that's going to be a real hassle out of all of this is the line of cars that will appear when half the elementary schools parents have to drive their kids to school every day. Will take forever to drop your kid off.

Ours is a hassle already! As people need to get out of the car, let their kids out and then watch them (when they are supposed to just drop and go).

What's going to happen is that families will carpool and one parent will drive 3 or 4 kids. So, in the end, they won't be social distancing anyway. They might as well take the bus.

I was going to say, maybe they can all chip in for a van to transport the kids to school- oh, wait, that's the same as the bus.

Like how they are going to shuffled to daycare.

There are going to be so many variations of "school" and "rule breaking" this year.
Parents forming their own homeschools and hiring tutors/teachers to come to their homes to teacher their own kids alongside their friends kids...people car pooling as bussing will not be an option for some...people not being honest about their kids being in contact with someone who tests positive.. the "deep cleaning" of the classrooms will probably not be as intense once a few months have passed as during the first few weeks of school....etc etc.

Who's teaching the am kids when pm starts and the teacher moves to the pm group and vice versa? Subs? TAs? Or are they learning in the am and then just being babysat in the pm until the school day ends?

I didn't watch the video but my guess would be a mix of TAs and elective teachers.

Most districts I think are going to have similar plans. It was interesting to hear his view on transportation because I think that is the biggest hurdle of all. This seems ideal to me, many districts don’t have the extra space so I think this is a great plan. I’d give up the bus for a year and carpool with neighbors if it meant school 5 days a week.
You are correct. When students are not with their classroom teachers they will be with special area teachers or support staff.
What I meant is that if the district is doing their full day plan their teachers will be busy all day with their am and pm groups. Who is teaching the kids who are opting to do all their classes remotely. There is no staff left to do that unless they plan on hiring a bunch of teachers.
He answered this in the video, somewhat. He said he would take it case by case and either provide more PPE, give out some "home instruction" (which will probably look similar to what we did in March), or you can choose to homeschool. They aren't going to put cameras in the classrooms so those who choose to keep their kids home can dial in to the classroom. And you know the teachers aren't working any more hours than what the unions dictate.
He already said he isn't hiring more teachers. They aren't going to "open another school, or building full of staff" as he said.
Correct our union will not allow us to work a full day in the classroom with children and then go home and work another job dealing with kids who are fully remote and they shouldn't. Those are two different jobs and they need to hire people to do it or it will not get done. I will not give a second of my time out of the building for remote learning if I am teaching in the building all day. My family and my own child's learning comes first.

District Reopening Guidelines
So my district announced they are planning a hybrid model with some in person and some remote but have not announced official plan. Our superintendent just Resigned too, what a mess...

Exactly. And since kids don't really get sick, isn't this all just unnecessary? There will literally only be only one adult on the bus. And he/she will be socially distanced and wear a mask. The chaos and barriers to full reopening are enormous. Part of me thinks it is futile and the kids will be forced to remote learn, which as we all know is for the birds.

District Reopening Guidelines
Well here in my town in NJ there were enough parents that the district has now added a 100% remote learning option. Prior today you had to have a medical issue in order to be allowed to do 100 percent remote.

When are we all going to come to the realization that schools are essential? Remote learning is a giant fail. Even "summer school" in my district is lacking. They finally implemented live learning, but there are tons of computer "gliches" and impediments to learning. Over the last few months, students weren't even held accountable and I'd bet some never even opened a computer. No tests, no regents, online and truncated AP tests. Unreal. To do this for a full school year will be a nightmare.
The class gaps will be insurmountable. My children may thrive as I can keep on top of them and give them tutors, but what about those that cannot afford it? How do working parents, who are barely making ends meet, afford childcare? It's bad enough we'll need to make up for the lack of teaching for 3 months, but one year? Worldwide, China and Europe have reopened their schools. Children do not appear to spread the virus. Seriously, the "cure" is worse than the disease.
We need to rethink these stringent CDC guidelines. We need to think about what is in the best interest for our children.

100% agree. I have no problem with cutting out extra activities...sports...but school is absolutely essential.
