Returning to the Office
I work for a very small company. We are considered essential, so I've been there since the beginning. For a few weeks, my boss and I rotated our schedules, so we wouldn't be in the office at the same time, but that was it.

Hahaha no. I’m glad to be back. It’s complete normalcy except for the masks. We even sit outside, spread out and order lunch.

My office let a small amount of people back a few weeks ago and we are phasing more people in gradually. I am thrilled to be back in the office. There are many safety precautions and I feel completely comfortable.
Mostly everyone I know is saying their company is planning on a January return. I am very curious what is so magical about January - won't that be WORSE since we will have flu season on top of this?

I am an essential employee. I work for Suffolk County but have the ability to work remotely. We are encouraged to work remotely if possible but I have been going to the office daily. I need to be around others and feel some normalcy. Being home so long has taken a toll on me mentally...

I guess it depends on how old your kids are. My DD is little and still needs my attention. Working from home with her was a nightmare.

True mine are older. I do find going to work sometimes a vacation though. I can get away and relax a bit lol.

It has nothing to do with school or my DD.
I enjoy getting dressed up, going to the office, seeing people, collaborating with my team, lunches out. I have no office space at all in my home, i have to sit on my bed. My back is killing me. There is no privacy and quiet. My productivity sucks.
I miss my quiet, private office and a proper office set up and desk

Even with the Spanish Flu life eventually went back to normal and remained that way for 100 years.
I can't imagine 100 years later we haven’t advanced at all in medicine, science, and technology that we won't find a way to beat this and have normal lives again. That our children won't have normal lives in the future.
It may not be in.January or in 2021 but I have to imagine eventually something will change. Vaccine, treatment, herd immunity, whatever the case may be.
To think it will always be this way is kind of fatalistic.
But maybe I'm too much of qn optimist. Who knows?

True. It is such a huge and major adjustment.
I am having a hard time with....a lot. Acceptance of this alone has helped clarify things for me. But I still have trouble deciding when to wear a mask within my expanded bubble based on the amount of people other people are coming into contact with. I think more diagrams might help. I'm a visual learner. And this is a lot to take in all at once with the entire world.

I work for a agency that has three office on Long Island. The entire agency shut down due to a positive test of an employee prior to Cuomo shutting everything down. It was surreal to get a phone call on a Sunday saying I couldn't go to work on Monday.
Since then, we were told that we were an essential business, and then we were told we weren't. In compliance with whatever rules apply to us, and in an abundance of caution, since April it has been max 3 people in any one of the 3 three offices at a time. To allow for everyone to come in, we've been limited to 4 hour blocks of time.
This past week we were increased to one full day per week, and the office is being staffed at 25% capacity - even though the guidelines permit 50% capacity. This is to allow wiggle room for staff to go to the office for emergency purposes (or because we need something etc), so that we never exceed 50% capacity. All common areas have been closed. There is caution tape preventing you from entering (like the kitchen where staff eats lunch). We are required to complete a health questionnaire before our assigned work day, everyone was given a thermometer for temperature taking before our assigned work day. Masks are required everywhere except your personal office. Hand sanitizer and wipes are also everywhere.
When I was in the office this past week, one of my colleagues kept calling me at my desk from her desk. She asked why I sounded like I was in such a good mood. I told her I felt like a Disney princess when I left my house that morning to come to work. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, I got dressed wearing something other than shorts and a t-shirt. LOL - it was great just to spend an entire day in the office like normal. (even if I had to put on a mask to leave my office, and wipe down the copy machine and the fax machine and everything in the bathroom before I touched it).
There is no timeline for all staff to be back 5x per week.
The hubby's company is international. All US locations are closed until further notice. Everyone is working from home, except for very limited personnel whose function cannot be performed remotely (like shipping clerks).

Wearing a muzzle all the time and wiping your groceries and not having children get a real education? No, just no. I just feel like at some point (it's already starting now in many states), people will no longer subscribe to the "just stay in your house forever because at least you are alive" philosophy.

I guess it depends on who you ask. I'm sure there are a lot of people who are happy to just live their normal life and enjoy it for as long as they can. And I am sure there are some people who took some risks and got sick. But the reality is that we have some therapeutics now, we know better how to treat people in hospitals (and what NOT to do), and the death rate is way down. I think this is progress. I understand there are people in other states who won't wear masks and who are having Covid parties, and no, I don't think this is necessary or wise. I'm just saying that stopping all of life for 320 million people forever is not a plan that is going to stick.

And again, it's unrealistic to think this is forever. This is not the end of life as we knew it. Somehow, in some way, in time, even if it's 5 years from now, this won't be as bad as it is now.
Forever is such a final word.
Like I said above, science has come a long way since 1919 and even they got back to normal after that pandemic

You're right. Unfortunately we cannot control the actions of every person in the country. We can only control our own.
I think part of it too is that the powers that be have been lying and leading us on for so long that people are just saying "fluck it." Two weeks turned into 5 months and counting with no end in sight. Instead of continuing to try and fool us with the "everything should be fine in January 2021, offices will open, sports will start, etc." fake narrative, I think a more effective strategy would be to give us a goal. Like just for an example, "when the infection rate is X and deaths are Y for Z days, we can stop wearing masks and go to a concert." I don't care what X, Y and Z are, but people just want some certainty, some hope, something to motivate them to do the right thing to get to those numbers!

You're right. Unfortunately we cannot control the actions of every person in the country. We can only control our own.
I think part of it too is that the powers that be have been lying and leading us on for so long that people are just saying "fluck it." Two weeks turned into 5 months and counting with no end in sight. Instead of continuing to try and fool us with the "everything should be fine in January 2021, offices will open, sports will start, etc." fake narrative, I think a more effective strategy would be to give us a goal. Like just for an example, "when the infection rate is X and deaths are Y for Z days, we can stop wearing masks and go to a concert." I don't care what X, Y and Z are, but people just want some certainty, some hope, something to motivate them to do the right thing to get to those numbers!
Coumo did that telling us we needed to hit a plateau and then we would be ok. It’s all a power game now for him and honestly can we trust what is going on anymore?
No word on when we are going back and we are starting our 18th week at home.
