It's hard because denial, lashing out, and personal attacks are all some people have and all they know.

Most people on here have been able to discuss facts rationally and respectfully. Most people follow Michelle Obama's words, going high when others go low. When people show, or flat-out tell you who they are, believe them.

I have another question, do people sneeze into their masks?

I don’t and I would hope ppl don’t do it either. Think about it, we sneeze so we can expel what our bodies have recognized as foreign and possibly as dangerous. The last thing u want is for those particles (microorganisms included) to hang around ur nose and ur mouth and then enter ur body again.

If you need to sneeze, how would you do so then if you’re wearing a mask? The entire reason to wear the mask is to stop your mucus from transmitting viral particles into the air.

Yeah I thought so too. If you have to sneeze and you're in a crowded area or store, then what? If you take it off to sneeze you then are defeating the purpose of the mask in the first place.
I am sure breathing in your own sneeze for a few minutes until you get outside isn't going to be harmful. It came from your own body so it's microorganisms that you already are harboring.

Aren’t ppl supposed to be social distancing already? So it’s not like u’d be sneezing on top of someone or towards the direction of someone. Nobody does that and nobody did that before covid. Plus how often do we sneeze? Because if someone is sick then maybe that person shouldn’t be out. If I need to sneeze and I’m out, I’d sneeze in my elbow. The amount that comes out when sneezing is nowhere near the amount that comes out when u’re breathing out or even coughing and although sneezing in ur mask might not be so harmful, I would not feel comfortable breathing all that back in again.

People at the grocery store do not properly socially distance, that’s why we need to wear masks.

Coughing and sneezing should be done into a mask. Even if sneezing is rare. Sneezing is worse that coughing actually in terms of transmission. Here is information from the American Lung Association:

A cough can travel as fast as 50 mph and expel almost 3,000 droplets in just one go. Sneezes win though—they can travel up to 100 mph and create upwards of 100,000 droplets.

Gross. Chat Icon I don't sneeze into my mask, I pull it down and sneeze into my elbow as I've always done.

Do I think I'm going to go broke coordinating my teenagers mask to her outfits? Yes.

Can't you guys state your opinions without calling each other names?? I can't believe the crap I'm seeing on this site lately.

It’s honestly like pre school here these days.

Anyway - for the sneeze question, I sneeze Into my shirt. I’ll pull my mask down and go int he neck of my shirt to sneeze. Thankfully I don’t sneeze boogies all over the place unless I’m sick, so it’s not “messy” lol

Re: Weird mask question - do you wear one at the drive through

I wear a mask when I pick up from a drive-thru. It's literally 1 minute grabbing my coffee and then I take it off. I'm not sure how the person behind the counter feels, so I'd rather be respectful. Even if I feel like it's pointless and we're far enough apart, I don't want them to feel like they are risking their lives to serve me an iced coffee.

Everyone worries about different things. Just because I don't worry about catching the virus, doesn't mean other people don't feel strongly about it. I know if that is how I felt, I'd have terrible anxiety working all day with people not wearing masks. I'd hate to make anyone else feel that way.

Side note about sneezing, I saw a woman come out of a store yesterday, take off her mask and use it as a tissue. She sneezed into it and then also used it to blow her nose. Yuck it was so gross to see, but it was disposable so I assume she threw it away. Just seemed like such an odd thing to do. Masks aren't absorbent like tissues.

What you're saying here is pretty much my train of thought too. I don't know if the employee at the window cares if I am wearing a mask or not, so I would rather just assume that they do care.

First of all, ewww- but yeah I guess she was treating it like a tissue and tossing it anyway.

This reminded me- this morning my daughter and I ran to Target and as we are walking out we are in that little vestibule area- between where you walk out of the store and before you hit the second set of double doors to the outside. There is a woman standing there and she had just taken her mask off. We exit and as we are JUST hitting the street she loudly coughs/sneezes. My daughter is like "well thank God we got out of there!"
I felt like we were running from the sneeze and it was like at our backs.

Moral of the story- don't remove your mask until you are actually OUTSIDE. Please, and thank you!

Oh man ewww. To think about the people that have to walk through that air now ...so gross. I actually hold in sneezes/coughs in public now for fear of being judged lol.

One of our older relatives is a chain smoker and always has a smokers cough. Every time he's around... he's coughing. We would never be able to tell the difference between his normal cough and a sick cough. So of course we haven't seen him in months, but I always wonder how he deals with the glares from strangers when he goes places. If that was me, I'd never leave the house again.

Re: Weird mask question - do you wear one at the drive through

I went to target 2 weeks ago and didn’t realize they closed one entrance. So I kind of huffed it half jogging to the other doors. No biggie but with the mask I coughed and it was one of those deals where I just needed a quick sip of water to be fine. But I didn’t have any. I felt very self conscious. No! I’m not sick, just getting old and really out of shape! Lol

Yes, that’s exactly what I said. What comes out when sneezing is way more than when u exhale or cough. But I’d much rather prefer sneezing (which does not happen often) in my elbow while I’m already social distancing. And if u say u can’t always social distance, how close are u really from ppl? And what are the odds of having to sneeze right then and there?? What are the odds for someone getting covid from ur sneeze when 1. U’re not sneezing on them, close to them, or toward them 2. U’re sneezing in ur elbow 3. A sneeze is not a sign of covid (like even ppl from this forum have pointed out). Ummm yes, the chances are extremely low. So I will continue sneezing in my elbow the rare time I feel a sneeze is coming instead of doing it in my mask and breathing all that yuckiness back in. But ppl can do whatever they think it’s best for them.

Weird mask question - do you wear one at the drive through

I wear a mask at the drive through - but, I haven't been in awhile - if I go, I try to do curbside instead (just because it's quicker, even on a good day).

In a restaurant, I wear a mask when I'm required to - entering, exiting and going to the restroom. Otherwise I take it off, even when the servers approach. I haven't seen anyone the handful of times that I've gone to a restaurant keeping theirs on once seated. I haven't ever felt unsafe at a restaurant but, we do more take out than eating out (we've only eaten out 1x at home, the rest were on vacation).

Thankfully I haven't had to sneeze yet while wearing a mask but I have coughed into it numerous times as I have bad allergies and I also have asthma (it's really tough to have to cough during these times as everyone stares at you).
