Why do you think masks don't work? The masks trap the vectors (your spit and mucus) so it can not enter the air and infect other people. A mask will keep those vectors from entering the air thereby limiting the spread of the disease. FACT.
For this pandemic, the biggest way you can personally help others to not get the disease is by wearing a mask. Eating healthy and exercising are great - trust me I am a fitness nut, but I also understand that America is not going to reduce the incidence of diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and obesity by tomorrow to help mitigate this pandemic.
If masks don’t help, then how did New York go from being the global epicenter to one of the safest places to be? It seems obvious to me that it’s because of the mask mandates that were in place.
NY reduced cases because it stayed locked down much longer than other places. Cases will rise here as things open, just as they have everywhere else.
But we have been opening up and they haven't gone up and there are only so many reasons why that could be.
Look at the numbers in states that require masks verses the ones that don't. The trend is clear.

In the 14 years I've been on this board I've labeled people (on this board, not talking about outsiders) exactly twice. Once was just calling you selfish.
Go ahead. Look through my posts and you'll see.
In the recent post that got nasty which was the only other time I did participate, before I said a word people called me and other people tons of names, including ignorant, azzhole, and the "b" word. But I'm sure that was ok with you because I suspect you agreed with their narrative - based on what you are known for.
“Being sure” and “suspecting” that I’m ok with ppl calling others names?? Ha! U reaaallllyyyyy know me!

Other states didn’t increase as soon as they opened. Protests contributed to many new cases. Time will tell. I don’t think it’s just the masks, but we’ll see how NY does as people start to venture out more.

I think so too, but I don’t think we’ll reach the same numbers we had back in March/April. The southern states have not reached their climax like we have, I think they’re experiencing it now and even with the numbers that they have now, it can’t be compared with our numbers from March/April. Our numbers were astronomical.

Yes, I would send them, and I would prefer it to be full time, every day. I live in NYC though so I know that’s not going to happen(they are in parochial school). My 7 and 8yo’s did not do well with remote learning, and I am not cut out for it either. And I know my older kids(middle and high school), will be meeting up with their friends anyway so they may as well be in school. Also, they are doing their normal summer activities now, albeit outdoors and with some precautions.

I don’t want to quote anything bc it’s a lot but I do have Ill effects from wearing a mask. ****I WEAR A MASK IN PUBLIC. I AGREE WE SHOULD TO HELP PROTECT EACH OTHER****
But I won’t lie and say it doesn’t bother me. Maybe medical professionals who wear them all day are used to it, but for me? Once it’s on for 15 min or more straight, my left nostril gets completely clogged and my ear begins to hurt. Longer? My throat gets so dry and scratchy. Once I’m able to remove it, everything goes back to normal. If I wear one of those blue medical ones? Massive headache within minutes.
So for those who preach masks and how they have no ill effects.. maybe not for you. But to for some there are.
Again ... I WEAR MASKS WHEN IN PUBLIC and believe they are helping slow the spread. But man, they make me feel like sh!t

Just curious what you mean they haven't hit their climax? Just because things got better here doesn't mean its gone forever and can never come back.

Same. I really think it's from breathing in your expelled carbon dioxide that you're supposed to be getting rid of . I think that probably causes the headaches.
I have to wear the thinnest possible cloth ones.
Still feel like shit wearing it and after anymore than 10 minutes I start to get an anxiety attack but at least it's not as bad

I posted about masks and headaches very early on. I’m a migraine sufferer and the mask is a trigger. Now that I’m back to work and wearing the mask for a longer period of time (using the surgical kind), I do feel some kind of stamina building up and less frequency of the triggers. I’ve read that the bamboo fabric ones have some more breathability so I ordered one on Amazon and will try that. I can not wear the regular fabric handmade ones, I feel like I’m suffocating. I’m still on a search for something for my pre teen to use at school, he’s used the fabric ones but they are shrinking in the wash and he needs the nose clip.

I found the most amazing mask at Dicks. It's so breathable and lightweight. It was expensive, 18.00. I will look at the brand name on the tag later because it's in my car. We are on vacay and I thought I was going to pass out in my regular handmade cotton mask last night in a hot store. My fault because I was too lazy to go to my car and get the other one! The Target 2 pack ones are okay too. I buy the child size. They fit well and are $4 for 2. My daughter prefers those.

Yes, today, tomorrow and whenever!! I have tons of friends who kids are in daycares since March and no one has gotten sick. The media scares people way to much. Especially younger kids need in person schooling. I see my 4 year slipping and have tried my best to teach her but there is the social aspect too that they desperately need.

I am just curious but are these daycares at max capacity? Just wondering because I don't know of one parent that on my team at work that has sent their kids back to daycare yet.

Our daycare is open while I dont think it’s at max capacity (it never is over the summer), it’s definitely well attended. I drive by it frequently. My son is currently does not attend as I have summers off.

My kids daycare is at max capacity now. Aside from the staff wearing masks, and the drop-off /pick-up procedures, you'd never know there was a virus. Kids playing on the playground, crafts, etc. It's pretty much completely normal for the kids. The center sent a note around last month saying an employee might be sick and was sent for testing. They gave her 2 weeks off (paid) both her tests came back negative so it was a false alarm. I thought it was really nice they paid her to stay home though, they aren't taking any chances. It was also nice of them to keep us in the loop and not wait to see if she was positive before making an announcement. I like that kind of transparency.

My brother has his son in daycare and its at max as well. No one there has gotten sick from Covid and they have kids from newborn to 10 years old
