What are you concerned about? That he has Covid? Sounds like he’s already on the mend so who cares if it’s covid? Why is everyone assuming covid is some kind of death sentence when more than 99% of healthy people will recover without any complications?

Um, maybe she is concerned because hundreds of thousands have died, and because no one knows how bad you might get it and what the long term effects may be or how sick he might get or for how long or maybe that she will get it too and they both may have a bad case and have trouble taking care of their kids. I know very healthy people in their 30s and 40s who got very very sick from coronavirus! Some even still have breathing or heart issues months later!! I guess you have it figured out and the whole world has gone crazy since the schools have been shut down for 3 months and everyone’s livelihoods - must be because Covid is no big deal! I’m not sure how you are so disconnected - I guess you are just lucky not to know people personally affected or choose not to care. Maybe you don’t know any doctors in the tri-state area. I’m really confused by your flippant comment actually!! To the original poster - sending your husband prayers for a speedy recovery and that it’s not Covid and no one else in your house gets sick!!! Sorry
You are dealing with this!!!

Exactly and people who have keep saying only 1% die don’t get that they might be that 1% or someone they love because they don’t know they have an underlying condition. Many people have issues they have no clue they have until something happens to them and this might be THAT time and they can’t survive this.

Thank you! I appreciate it. Normally I am so laid back and always rolling my eyes when DH is sick, but nowadays it's different and scary. We really have been good so hopefully it's nothing. Should get the results back today.

My point is, unless he is having respite issues it doesn’t matter if it’s covid or the flu. Honestly people have lost their minds. I have many friends who are doctors. They all same the same. If you aren’t having respiratory issues there is no need for concern. I don’t get the flu and start to panic even thou many people die from the flu each year.

Thanks! Tests are backed up so still waiting on that. I had him go back again to the doc yesterday and he put him on a steroid. It’s like night and day. He’s so much better, but will feel better once we hear the test results. I cancelled my son’s play date today and my night to meet with friends outside for drinks bc even though he’s better I’d feel awful if it came back positive

I’m glad he is feeling better! Now I don’t know much about treatment for Covid at all, but, steroids are usually given to me when my asthma is at its worse. I don’t want to freak you out, but maybe that’s why it’s working. But they also prescribe steroids for other illnesses that don’t attack the lungs.

Keep doing what you are doing and I wish a full recovery for you DH!

I once had a horrible sore throat and was sick with something viral for a week. I was shocked when the strep test was negative. That's how bad I felt and how much it felt like strep.
Anyway the doctor gave me a steroid to drink right in the office and within an hour I was Iike a new person and felt the best I had all week.
The steroids help with inflammation so anything inflammatory from asthma to severe sore throat etc it will help.

This 110%. I wish people would really stop saying only 1% of people die blah blah. It’s a serious illness. And they still don’t know of the after effects, but it’s starting to come out that people are sick for weeks after they get better. ‘On the mend’ isn’t necessarily what you think it is. At this point I do not want to infect others and I certainly do not want to get it. What a cold comment lululu.

OP I hope everything is OK with your DH. I would be worried, too.

Sorry the ‘man cold’ comments cross the line in this current state of affairs.

I had similar symptoms (sore throat, lethargic, body aches) early February. After 2 weeks of feeling like crap, I went to Dr. Was diagnosed with sinusitis and onset of bronchitis. Was prescribed meds and started feeling better 2 weeks later. Still have sore throat but I suffer from allergies.

In hindsight, I wonder if it was a mild case of COVID. I am sure not but that is what one immediately assumes now when feeling ill.

Hope he feels better soon. Keep us updated.

yes! That sounds exactly like DH. Strep came up negative. WEll, he is so much better on the steroids. Funny thing is the lungs are clear too so happy about that. Just waiting to confirm the test bc we did cancel a bunch of plans, I can't be that person going out knowing we're waiting for a test.

Thanks for sharing, I knew there had to be other reasons for steroids, so wanted to put that disclaimer. I know my aunt used to take it for lupus.

Re: Getting concerned

OP glad he's feeling better. It sucks having to cancel plans until you get the test results, but better safe than sorry.
If it makes you feel any better, if the doctors suspected coronavirus at all, they probably wouldn't have given him a steroid. Steroids are known to make coronavirus worse. I had the virus before testing was available. I thought I was just sick with the same crap I get every winter. I was treated with steroids (which usually makes me feel a lot better) and they didn't work at all. I had full blown pneumonia after the first round of steroids. I know that doesn't help, but hopefully the fact that the steroids are working, might mean the test results will be negative.

Actually, there is a steroid that has been shown to significantly help with Covid - Dexamethasone. I believe this steroid was going to be included as standard care in cases of infection.

I've been prescribed this steroid before, it is readily available with an Rx from the doctor.

OP: Hope your DH is feeling better and that you are all well!

From what I've read they are still in the trial phases of using Dexamethasone as a treatment for Covid. So what I wrote still applies to the OP. The first trial that had a positive outcome using that steroid, was only on critically ill patients. They are only recommending it for patients on ventilators and life support. Steroids are immunosuppressants so they wouldn't be the first course of treatment if they suspected covid because the anti-inflammatory response is going to be outweighed by the immunosuppressant factor. Maybe the recommendation will change, but right now, if they suspect covid, they wouldn't jump to use steroids.

Glad he’s getting better and it was negative. I’ve had colds or sinus infections that lasted longer than the average cold. The key is to rest. Sometimes we think we are better, try to get back to normal day
routines and can set ourselves back.
