Isn't peak relative, and isn't it something that can't be determined until numbers settle down. We don't know if anyone's peaked or if places that have settled down will reignite.

For all the rules, if Floridians come to NY and don't obey......we will all be affceted by what goes on everywhere instead of neatly cordoned off.

People across the country need to act like grownups if we want to actually open schools.

This is exactly why the stay at home orders were put in place. People are selfish and just do whatever they feel like without stopping to think about repercussions.

But there are no stay-at-home orders in place anymore for NY or NJ so what are you expecting from everyone, that they continue to stay at home forever?? In NJ gatherings of up to 100 people are now ok so it's no surprise people are getting together, especially in states that are all opened up.

I keep seeing people say we’ve “hit our peak” and have come back down, as though we don’t really have to worry now and the worst is behind us. That’s crap. We can easily hit an even higher peak in the second wave (as happened during flu the pandemic 100 years ago.. the second wave was way worse than the first). Having hit a peak already doesn’t mean much. It would take very little for this to spread rampantly in NY again... and I think in the fall it just might (I hope I’m very wrong and it never happens). Because even if 30%++ of the NY population has already had it, that leaves a whole lot of people (of the millions in crowded NY) who still have no antibodies ... and we’re learning it may even be possible to be reinfected and antibodies might not offer much protection anyway. I’m thrilled the numbers are down but i don’t think it’s close to being over. Also I’m not going to assume I won’t be among the unlucky percentage who need hospitalization or worse if I were to catch it... it’s just too unpredictable. I’m not saying nobody can go out or do anything... I’m just saying caution is just as important as ever.

Yes you are correct. Anyone could peak again but if you look at the charts, the states that are spiking now never really peaked.

Only 25 for NY and many places are still closed. But we are still asked to wear masks which it sounds like we are doing a better job than the states that opened and now peaking.

People seem to be incorrectly using the word peaking to mean higher than ever before, which is a useless metric for measuring anything being discussed.

People need to still be cautious though or we’ll end up right back where we were. People can get together, but try to do so outside, maintain distance and/or wear masks. Most importantly, if you’re sick, stay home. With this birthday party, it sounds like someone had a cough. That person shouldn’t have gone to the party. If it was at that person’s house, it should’ve been postponed.

Especially with the states that reopened too early, people went back to business as usual. No masks, participating in large gatherings without maintaining any distance, etc. We should learn from the mistakes of other states and think about our choices. Most people want to go back to normal, but it will take time and people following the rules to prevent setbacks.

I get what you're saying, my point was the above poster made a comment how selfish it was for these people to be together but there aren't stay at home orders in place anymore and people are free to socialize.

But I do agree, people should be smart about it if they are going to get together. Chat Icon

Yes! How irresponsible to go to a party with a cough in this time. Terrible. I don't care if you think you know for a fact it's allergies, you don't take that chance.
And the other day this clothing company I follow on Facebook that is based in Arizona posted something about how there is now a mask mandate in public. I was like huh? Hasn't there been a mask mandate for months? I guess not there. I was floored

I think a lot of the states that reopened had lax rules to begin with and weren’t taking the precautions seriously whether it was political pressure, lower numbers, etc. Some of those governors were reluctant to have any type of stay at home orders and hadn’t made masks a requirement. By having each state come up with its own rules, which may or may not have been based on the CDC guidelines, and making this a political issue instead of a united front, we’ve had disastrous consequences. I totally get the questioning attitude because the guidance changed a lot, but that was because we didn’t know a lot about the disease and we still don’t know as much as we could. No one likes wearing masks, but they really should’ve been required everywhere to help prevent the spread. The way some of the states have forged ahead with reopening and essentially ignoring the numbers is mind boggling.

There was not a mask mandate. One of my friends actually spearheaded the campaign in Scottsdale, AZ to make it mandated.

I am not expecting people to stay home but if you are sick stay the eff home. People can be respectful of other people . That's why they put them in place because people are just dumb and can't use common sense. The guy knew he had a cough and yet chalked it up to just being from work. People need to take better precaution is all I am saying.

You can be pissed off at Govenors for closing shit down but ultimately its the citizens who's at fault.

The problem was someone came to the party sick. They should have stayed home.

This!

Unless they were one the “asymptomatic” people I hear about. If you feel even the slightest bit under the weather, you stay home!! I did that before covid. If I ever feel a little something starting, I cancel plans and stay in. It’s rude not to. Nothing like showing up to a party and you say hello to someone who is OBVIOUSLY sick. I’m always like wtf , fomo much?

Yep and people do it all the time. Come to school, work, parties, etc because they don't have the time to take off or don't want to miss a class or feel bad missing a birthday or such.
Everyone would have understood and now this person has to deal with all these people getting sick and the older couple who are not doing well.

Serious question.
What is an employee supposed to do when they literally don’t have time to take? I generally stay home when sick, but there are times when I have had to work while sick with a mild cold or in the tail end of something like bronchitis where I felt better but not 100% They used to have this policy where if you took too many sick days (Without dr. Note) you would be labeled an “abuser of sick time” and would need a doctors note to use sick time. I was just advised that starting July 7th I will need to respond to a daily email attesting to the fact that I am free from a number of symptoms. If any employee has any the symptoms, (including a sore throat which I get occasionally from allergies) I am “not permitted” to be at work and must use my sick time. I obviously don’t come into work when I am legitimately sick, but I speculate with this people are just going to lie when they feel good enough to work and don’t want to use sick time, defeating the purpose. It’s not like they are increasing sick time accruals to cover this...

I agree with you. This country is terrible in terms of sick leave , maternity leave etc. I was back at work when my newborn was 8 weeks old because I was at a new job and had zero sick time/vacation time and there was no paid maternity leave. We couldn't afford for me to be unpaid for longer than 8 weeks
Companies need to reevaluate their sick leave allocation if they want to keep sick employees at home

I used to work in retail as a manger and there were plenty of times I could not call out when sick. Not even because I didn’t have sick time, but but because if I did there was no one there to run the store. And part time employees don’t get any sick time. People will continue to go to Work sick because they don’t have a choice or can’t afford to lose pay. I think there should be some legislation that guarantees sick pay for part time employees as well...

Sorry, but outbreaks are going to happen and you probably will have to go back into quarantine at some point in the future. There was an outbreak here in the north with 2000 cases within a few days (pork plant). That area is now under quarantine.

I fully expect to be back into quarantine by October. And this will probably happen in the US because the whole handling of COVID has been dealt with incorrectly. So much so that the US has been one of the countries not allowed to travel to the EU. I still follow the rules and I use common sense to stay away from crowds.

It isn’t gone forever (but I hope it is). I’d start making plans now to make sure you are ok with the next quarantine.

Good points.

I'm going to try to get some appointments done in the next month or so that are essential but not emergency that I would have done in the last few months - i.e. a follow up mammo/sono, DS's dermo - because I suspect October/November we'll be back at home.

If I am wrong, I will be thrilled. I have no interest in being right about that. Chat Icon

The teachers responding are too goood to feel like they have to answer the trolling, imperious, obnoxious attacks. But they have, and I hope anyone trolling this board with nasty, generalized attacks on a whole profession will feel as foolish as they look and stop.

100%, for the reasons stated here, schools will be forced to close (if they open), because people will send their kids to school (even slightly) sick, or not disclose the fact that there is covid in the household. People will die because of this because by the time the school closes, lots of irreversinle exposures will have occurred. Not just to teachers.

I feel like a lot of people talk about new hotspots and spikes without thinking for a moment that it could cost them loved ones and upend their lives.

I 100% agree things will spike here and we will be forced to quarantine again.
I have been invited to 2 separate graduation parties and multiple gtgs. Declining them all. It’s too soon to be “back to Normal” People are ignoring what’s just happened. We go to dinner parties with 1 or 2 other couples tops. And they are usually held in the yard. We see immediate family we know are safe in their daily lives.

But people are selfish. The fact that we have to keep reminding our clients if anyone in their household is sick or they’ve been in close contact w someone who is sick, they cannot keep their appointment. It’s like we are stabbing them lol like dude, if covid is running rampant in your house, but you don’t “feel” sick, keep your shit away from me!! These people are out shopping next to you in shoprite, at CVS, and lining up to get their nails done. It’s allergies, or my husband got it but I’m not sick, I’m not gonna bother getting tested, etc. the nonsense I’m hearing is WHY it WILL spread again. And sooner than we think

This! People are selfish. I got my haircut the other day and the lady two chairs over is talking about how she just got back from Florida. WTH are you doing at a salon. You should be quarantining for two weeks. I was SO pissed. What is wrong with people?!?!

Society has always been like this. Selfish. All about me. Me, me, me.
From the way people drive, to the way they park in parking lots, how they refuse to return their carts so your car gets dinged, to blocking a whole shelf in a supermarket so they can stand there reading a label for 10 minutes. No regard for anyone but themselves. And this now has only highlighted it even more.
God forbid Stacey doesn't have her balyage done. Eff everyone else.
Hence why I hate people.

That's true. I was so disappointed when I learned a friend went to Florida in may and was out celebrating Mother's Day breaking her quarantine. I've been so disappointed at some of my friends behaviors during this time, very entitled.

You guys are not alone. I am hating society on the daily. Either people who act like nothing ever happened and shame those who are still cautious, or those who are never leaving their house again but give me shit for wanting my husband to be able to open our business so we can pay our bills. Sorry, we don’t have it like that where we can not work for a year and still live like nothing happened. Our business can’t be done remotely either.

Everyone knows everything but meanwhile, nobody knows shit. I say STFU so many times a day. To TV, definitely to Social Media and under my breath when I hear people ******** either way.
