Pre corona

If your sibling lives within thirty minutes, how often do you see them? Do they have kids? You? Both?

Just curious.

Re: Pre corona

I only see my sibling once or twice every couple of months if my parents are hosting something at their house.

We both have children. I use to see them more often but I got tired of being the planner and constantly having to host. I stopped asking and they never stepped up.

Re: Pre corona

I saw my sister and family a couple of times but social distancing when they came to drop baked goods for us. We went to their place when my nephew had his virtual HS graduation and we broke all social distancing. That was the last time we saw them and it was about a month ago. We are not going outside too much.

All of our siblings are 10-30 minutes away. Pre corona I saw my brother once a week for the most part. Occasionally things come up and we skip a week. I have children he does not. His work schedule helps. He is off on Tuesdays so we will grab lunch or meet up when I get out of work on those days.

My husband’s siblings all have children and regular work schedules. They mainly see each other for holidays, occasional family dinners and when we try to get the nieces and nephews together or if it is one of the nieces or nephews birthdays. There are a lot of them so birthdays are often lol.
I would say we see them once a month on average. Sometimes it’s more sometimes less.

Re: Pre corona

I see my brother who lives 20 mins away 1-2 times per week. He has three small children. He makes it easy for me to stop by and play with the kids. He welcomes it.

I see my brother in Florida once every two months or so. I’ll make the trip for a quick weekend. He has two children.

My brother in-law lives 2 mins away. He has two children. We see them once a month or so. They aren’t as open about visiting weekly, understandable since everyone works full time.

My other sister in-laws have children and we see the maybe 1 x a month for a birthday and at holidays.

We don’t have any children. We make the effort to see the kids because I love being around them. I have a unique special bond with each one. I’d do anything for them.

I live three hours away and see my siblings about once a month. If I lived closer to them, I’d see them weekly. I’d probably see my one sister at least twice a week.

I have 2 siblings that live on L.I and 1 that lives in S.C.

My brother on L.I. I see a few times a month. My sister on L.I I see maybe once or twice a year. My brother in S.C came up for a visit last summer so that was the last time I saw him. Before that was probably another year.

We all have kids are rarely see them.

As you can tell we aren't a close family. Chat Icon

Re: Pre corona

My sister lives less than a mile from me in the same development- pretty much walking distance
We both have kids very close in age.
We see each other at least once a week when we get together as a family with our parents as well and sometimes the kids will get together to swim or play or have a sleep over or she'll take my daughter somewhere with her kids another time a week- especially now that schools are closed etc. and they are all going stir crazy

My brother, his wide and kids used to live 20 mins away from me and we saw each other once a month to get all the kids together and catch up. Now they moved almost 1.5 hours away so we see each other less often... basically to celebrate birthdays and holidays.

We have several siblings that live nearby and see them at least once a week in the summer, a bit less during school time bc it’s more hectic with schedules. Most have kids similar ages.
One sibling without kids we see just as much though bc she adores all of the kids.

My brothers are five minutes away and live with my parents. So depending on what time I pick my son up from my mom’s after work I could potentially see them every day, but sometimes they were still at work. So once a week maybe?

My brother lives like 20 minutes but is gone most of the year for work so it’s hard to say but I see him when he’s home hen I can. My BIL and his kids live 15 min from us and the kids are all within a few months of each other we see them maybe once every 2-3 months? It’s usually me that hosts and his kids destroy my house so I don’t like them coming that often

I live in the same town as my sister, brother and parents. We all have kids, but the age range is from 21 down 3. We usually only see each other for birthday get togethers and holidays (about once a month on average). Sometimes I'll get together with my sister and her youngest (who is the same age as my oldest) over a school break or something. Everyone is super busy all the time.

Re: Pre corona

I'm pretty close with my brother and we both have kids the same age, but his wife is another story. I think she doesn't see us as part of the family?

We live about 40 minutes away, and we saw each other 3-4 times a year, sometimes less pre-pandemic.

Now during the past few months, we talk over FaceTime at least once a week. I have spent more time with my brother on video chat than I have in person for at least 2 decades. He's isn't working right now, so that has a huge effect on things I guess...

Our parents haven't been the most unifying forces in our lives, so it's up to us.

We are considering a move to Florida where we have more family, but finding a good school district is maddening.

A few times in a month. I have two nieces and a son of my own. My younger niece is the same age as my son so they are very close.

Pre corona

Thanks everyone. Apparently I’m the unreasonable one lol.

My bil/sil live about 45 minutes away, but we typically saw them at least once a week-more during breaks/summer. We have family bdays on that side 10/12 months to begin with, and then holidays, but we see them more than that anyways.

My sister lives about 15 minutes away, and basically only sees us for bdays/holidays-it works out to like 7 times a year or so. She’s about to have her first, so maybe it will change, but I’ve always been upset she doesn’t make more of an effort. I ask her constantly to do things/come over/etc.

I also see my in laws/parents multiple times a week typically though lol

DH has 2 siblings. One is oos so we never see them (we've never met their 18 month old).

The other lives on LI. We see her and her kids for birthdays and if my FIL happens to have everyone over for a holiday (maybe twice a year). So 5-6 times a year, if that.

I think it goes without saying that he isn't close with them.

I have 4 sisters that live in the same town. We see each other several times a week.

Step siblings are out of town and less frequent. I'd say on average once a month or every other month.

Re: Pre corona

I don't have any siblings that live within 30 minutes. 50 mins is the closest and I see them once a week usually, sometimes 2x a week. The others live OOS and we only see them once every few months for holidays or random visits. We all talk several times a week on the phone though.

Typically every month to 6 weeks. Between the holidays, bdays, minor holidays like at pats, we always got together. We are close to my bro and sil so if there wasn’t a reason, we just usually made plans and everyone had fun.

Finally saw them this weekend first time since February and it was great.

Re: Pre corona

I have a sister that lives around the block. Lately I see her once or twice a week, more since corona and we go for walks. Another sister lives 15 minutes away and I see her once a month. My brother live 3 to 5 hours away. The one 3 hours away I see him every 2 years if that often. My other brother visits my parents more so I see him every 6 months.
