anyone repaint their dining room table?
I'm looking to repaint my dining room table. It is black but there are some white marks in it (burn marks). Mostly from my husband putting a baked potato down on it or other various hot items.
I've tried to look on pinterest but there isn't much there. Surprisingly.
Has anyone done it before? do i have to sand down the entire table and repaint the whole table if just the top is the issue?

Re: anyone repaint their dining room table?
Do you want to change the color, or just refinish it to make it look new again? Very different techniques involved.
If it's just the top, you can get a very fine grit sandpaper and possibly just sand out the bad spots, get matching paint, and touch up the spots you sanded. If you can't get it to match, or if there are too many spots, just get a courser grit sandpaper, and sand the entire top. Then, get a fine grit sandpaper and smooth it out. Paint the entire top black, and clear-coat it a few times.
Don't repaint the entire table if you don't have to. That's a huge project....

would you use paint or a stain? What if the color on top doesn't match?

Re: anyone repaint their dining room table?
I painted my entire dining room table white. It was a second hand set that I got for free and didn’t love the finish. I sanded the entire top with a black and decker sander and painted the whole thing. I didn’t sand the legs really (maybe went over once with sandpaper by hand) because I wasn’t really worried about the legs chipping from use, more the table top. I then finished with a clear polyurethane. If you look up young house love, they have a tutorial for painting furniture that was posted in the late 2000s and that is basically what i followed.
