Vaccine for school
The vaccine thread and the school thread got me thinking and this thread is their love child.
Hypothetically, if sometime in the near future a vaccine is introduced and then schools can reopen as they were before (full schedule, etc), but the vaccine is mandated in order for students to attend school, would you let your kid be vaccinated to attend school in the capicity they were?
I'm not talking about a proven vaccine with years of studies. I mean a brand new vaccine that comes to market in the near future. I know it's not realistic that's why it's a hypothetical question.
I can't make this a poll.
I should rephrase to say if a vaccine became available sometime in the near future, not necessarily in September.

First of this is so spot on and funny as heck 
Omg that’s a tough one... my son needs to go to school but I don’t want him to get a new vaccine that I don’t trust. He’s a very healthy kid. Maybe if it’s was put in the flu vaccine, I would give it to him. Which probably doesn’t make any sense lol. But idk, that’s a hard question.

Wasn't there legislation a few months back that mandated the vaccine schedule for students to attend school and got rid of religious exemptions? If they ever come out with a covid vaccine I can see it being added to the schedule and kids will have to get it or not be allowed in schools.

With the survival rate of this virus and my son being healthy. I take my chances with him going to school / camp than the vaccine. I don’t mind him being a “guinea pig” as you say to go to school.

Yes, unfortunately. A June that I will never forget and that has impacted my family greatly.

No one is using kids as guinea pigs. That’s why clinical trials exist.
I’m not getting into a vaccine debate here. Vaccines are tested before they go to market. No one is jabbing children with anything that hasn’t been tested. That’s not how it works.

Not everywhere in NY. I believe only NYC, and the Bronx? However there are bills waiting to be approved (hopefully not) that would make the flu vaccine mandated throughout NY (schools, daycare, etc).

THIS THIS THIS.
The virus itself and exposure to it has as many, likely MORE long term unknown risks than any vaccine has had. No matter how we stomp our feet, that scenario would boil down to 3 choices: 1. stay home longer2. risk the vaccine 3. risk the virus.
I, personally, would look to what the most educated doctors, scientists, and researchers that I know and that are in the news are doing. Their assessment will always be better than mine or any pseudoscience that someone rants from their car, or after they defame the Sandy Hook families, or whatever.

Oh I see. I’m not sure about NJ. Although I think they tend to follow what NY does sometimes. Just a few months ago NJ was trying to pass bills to make vaccines mandatory (just a few months after NY), luckily sooooooo many parents were heavily protesting in and outside the building that the proposing legislators couldn’t get enough votes. Who knows if this will change anytime soon.

We are also fully immunized.
I couldn’t care less what I’m categorized as. My beliefs are my beliefs and I do not have to prove them to anyone. But I do think (especially in this country) we should all have the ability to choose what’s best for us and our families. I have a huge problem when the government imposes what they think it’s best for me and my family.

Same here, I dont have kids but I would not have a problem getting them vaccinated. If the schools recommend but don't require vaccinations for students, then if I had a kid, I would probably look into home-schooling because I dont want to risk exposure. I have faith in the scientists and researchers who are trying to work on a safe rollout. If they say its safe and have done all the trials proving it is, then I have to trust it. At some point, ALL of us have to trust a source and take personal risk and responsibility into account.
South Korea has pushed back their starting date for schools based on rising infections. Hopefully a system of testing and tracing will be in place by August so schools can have a plan for opening safely. I think the idea of staggered hours, different shifts, limited classroom time is appropriate- maybe a hybrid system of online learning and classroom activities can be worked on so that parents can still have some sense of normalcy restored.

It’s not hard to understand. I don’t think anyone on here fully understands how vaccines are tested and what the rules are. It’s a whole lot of commenting and arguing on a subject most are not well versed in.
I’d be thrilled if all of you refused to give your kids the vaccine. There would be fewer kids in school and we wouldn’t need these reduced schedules.

Yes and Governor Cuomo has already given himself the authority to do this. No one cared on this board when there were threads about it because it didn’t impact their kids and now he has the authority and so if he wants to mandate the vaccine for school attendance he can very easily do that and there are basically no exemptions at all as he eliminated those as well.
Like a previous poster said - we are pretty much alone in this because most other states encountered resistance when they tried to pass the same law including in NJ where thousands of parents showed up to protest, so their kids will be fine. But since most NYers didn’t think about the long term consequences of giving the governor the total authority of over what we inject into our own children - this is a very very real possibility. In NY - the phrase “my child, my choice” no longer applies. It may be your child but it’s Cuomo’s choice!
