Will you get a covid vaccine?
Seems like no one plans to get it (including my older parents) so why do some people in government keep insisting we won’t be back to “normal” until we have a vaccine? If no one is going to really get the vaccine and let’s be honest, it’s probably going to be as effective as the flu vaccine, why do we need to wait for this to go back to normal?
My kids need to go back to school in September. I need to start going back to work and getting my old income back. Ugh.
Edited to add that dr gupta on cnn just said the Kawasaki in kids is very rare so that doesn’t really make me nervous about them going back.

No way would I trust it until it's been around for years.
I'd rather take my chances with the virus as a low risk person
Eta.... and those worried about this Kawasaki like reaction in kids...wouldn't giving the vaccine to kids be a concern then as well?

I am NOT anti-vax at all as my kids and I are fully vaccinated. That being said, no, I will NOT get this vaccine in the short term because I feel like they are going to rush this through without conducting the proper testing and protocol for safety and efficacy. Let's face it, Trump is a big, dumb moron who cares about nothing but his re-election so the faster he can get us all pumped up with a vaccine whether it's safe or effective the better for HIM, not us.
Once the vaccine is PROVEN safe and effective over time then yes, I will certainly get the vaccine. But I sure as sh!t won't pump myself and my kids up with a vaccine in the coming months that was pushed through just for the sake of getting a vaccine to market.

No way would I voluntarily get the vaccine or give it to my kids. I am terrified of the vaccine. Much more terrified than I am of a virus. Unfortunately, I fear it will be mandatory to return to school.
I do think most people will line up in droves to get it though. People LOVE vaccines. They trust them implicitly and do not believe any side effects will happen to them or their kids.
And yet the same people are scared that if they let the kids out of the house they may possibly in the rarest of instances maybe get the virus which may possibly lead to certain Kawasaki-like symptoms maybe possibly.
I don't get it.

I will get it once it has been shown to be safe- the race to bring the vaccine to the public leaves me feeling uneasy about the initial finished product.

None of us would be the first to receive the vaccine unless we participated in a trial.
I will take a look at the data once it’s approved. If I’m comfortable with the data then yes, I would get it.

I was thinking this same question. I never get the flu vaccine and would really need to think about the corona vaccine. My instinct would be no, and I am in the healthcare industry.

This!!! If legislators were already pushing for the flu and the HPV vaccines to be mandatory, I wonder what makes ppl think they will not try to do the same with a covid vaccine?!? I can almost guarantee that if they come up with a covid vaccine, they’ll quickly try to add it to the established mandatory vaccine schedule and the worst is that if something happens to someone after receiving this vaccine (or any other one), they can’t even sue these big companies!

You would need to sign an ironclad consent form for them to do anything with it other than test for antibodies. Not to mention whomever was collection the blood or saliva would have to be affiliated with a lab that had the ability to process the sample to obtain useful genetic information.
The chance that these tests could garner any genetic information is beyond infinitesimal.

Realistically, probably nothing. However, de-identification is a big thing when it comes to research and you can never technically de-identify genetic information so there is always a zillionth of a chance genetic testing can be traced back to you. That could potentially be an issue if you carry a genetically linked disease because in certain cases you could have problems getting life insurance. It’s also the ethical matter of do you want to know about genetic diseases you can’t do anything about.
There have also been stories of people being convicted of crimes they didn’t commit because their DNA closely matched the criminals. These are lunch break stories and the real reason you’ll never find a genetic researcher sharing anything with anyone ever

Quite frankly, I am scared that they will mandate it to allow kids back in schools. Then I will be forced to homeschool because I will not give that to my boys until it's been around for years with proven effect. I would not even consider it for myself or my kids.

No, I don’t think so. I’ve never had the flu shot either. I am interested in seeing if I have the antibodies though. I was not sick at all this winter (knock on wood). But between January & March I was on 14 different planes & worked events with thousands of people...so I feel like I must have been around it, but who knows!

*Normally*, people love vaccines because they have been tested, gone through saftey procedures, studied, followed up long-term, etc. This new miracle vaccine that they are hoping to discover and rush out in months hasn't gone through any of that. I typically have no issue with any vetted vaccine, but I don't want to run to line up for something this rushed and untested.
Unfortunately, I have a strong feeling we're going to be forced to get it sooner rather than later.
