So to answer a few questions, The daycare is in Nassau County. A lot of daycares have remained open for essential workers. The older kids do wear masks. Someone must have supplied kids size masks with cartoon character fabric; I have seen the pictures on their facebook page.
I appreciate everyone's opinion on this. We have been home for the last 7 weeks minus a weekly trip to the supermarket. We don't go anywhere else or see grandparents. I just don't know at what point it will be deemed safe to send them back. I am expecting my job to open up with phase 2 which I am hoping will be in june so at that point I would definitely need to send him. Is it going to be 100 percent safe a month from now?

Tbh in your case I would send him now. If you are probably going to send him in a month, why not get him used to it now. The masks and getting acclimated to going back to daycare everyday.

No need to defend yourself. No matter what you do someone is going to think you’re wrong. Only you can make the decision but I have no hesitation to send my kids if I need to.

Childcare facilities are considered essential. Those who have closed likely did so because they didn't have enough kids to justify paying staff.
And yes, I would send my DD.

Nope. It will not be. It won't be 100% safe a year from now either imo.
There isn't going to be a magical date that it's suddenly safe.
Do what's best for you.

At some point, you have to do what is best for you. Yes I will do my part and wear a mask when necessary and wash my hands etc. but I can’t save the world at the expense of my own family. Everyone needs to be responsible for their own family. If someone wants to stay home, then they should! I do not expect the world to be locked up forever so I can stay safe. Parents need child care. The end.

I'm not sure. I think what I would take into consideration is how many of the other kids in the day care have parents working the front lines, meaning in hospitals or EMTs. That would be a concern to me because then you know for a fact your child will be exposed to children who are likely to be exposed to the virus.
BUT...you have to do what will work for you. I would love to get rid of my kids for a few hours each day for some peace. And, like you said, is it going to be safer in a month? Probably not. I would say do it and then just treat him like a front line..strip him down and lysol him up at pick up.

I would 100% send them. I didn't realize there were places open other than what our district is providing for essential workers. I WFH and honestly, I haven't been getting anything done. I need to work, we need to make a living. I'm going to call places today and see what our options are.

If I needed to send them to get work done, I would do it. Our daycare is opening back up on May 18th, but I do not need to send my son at this time.

I have a 4 year old and he never stopped attending daycare. Ours is a private, in-home daycare.
My husband and I are not essential but had the conversation when this all happened that if at any point we were uncomfortable sending him, then we would keep him home.
We also had the conversation with our provider, who we have known for 9 years, the precautions she and her assistant are taking. The maximum number of kids still attending daily is 3 (including my son)! I also know the other two families and trust they are taking the same precautions we are.
With me and DH working from home and doing remote learning with our 9 year old, it would have been very difficult to have our 4 year old home too.
I am very thankful that she is still open and trust her completely.
With all that said, you have to do what is best for your family and at your own comfort level.

That is what I have read too...
I thought I was going insane that I heard that somewhere.... so I looked for it.
There are a few articles about it.
This is not true! Children have died. It is less likely children will become seriously ill but they are not immune- there is a report in the UK that Covid 19 in children is associated with Kawasaki like disease which is a rare but very serious illness.

Exactly. Kids probably aren't getting it NOW because they HAD it in January.
That's who needs to get tested for antibodies.

That's who needs to get tested for antibodies.
I think my daughter had something late February into March. Almost a month of a dry hacking cough.
But no fever or anything else- but they do say the symptoms in kids are so mild that most don't even know they had it and chalk it up to a cold.

It’s very sad that those children died but that’s not even a handful vs the total number of adult deaths. The flu is far more deadly to children. I still feel this doesn’t pose much risk to children, even compromised ones don’t seem to be dying.

There will always be some outliers, but kids by the overwhelmingly vast majority are not getting sick.

Absolutely no way.
I think there is a lot of misinformation being circulated
But for my family's safety, as well as for that of society around me and that of those who I would hope would take care of us if we did need it, we would not.
I hope that things do not get a lot worse before they get better.

Agreed. I cant rely on studies. Studies also showed older people were more highly to get it, people with other conditions, and respiratory issues, but I am seeing younger and very healthy people getting it. They dont know.
