Unemployment- Self Employed - Help please !

So I am self employed and have a drastic reduction in my work -- pretty much down to no work.

I went on line on 4/3 and opened a claim stating that the last day I worked was 3/30. I recieved a message saying I needed to call jn to complete my claim . I tried but it was impossible to get through. Meanwhile I tried to certify for benefits for the following week but it did not give me that option.

I recieved an automated message last week saying someone would call me re my claim. Someone called me yesterday and asked me several basic questions and said I was all set with my applications and that I would receive a determination at some point. He didn't sound sure at all of what he was saying and he knew noting about weekly certification or what next steps would be- he worked ina different department , it was his first day and he was essentially given a list of people to call with a spreadsheet to complete the information obtained from the calls..

So I'm not entirely sure if my application is complete or what if anything I need to do--even though the agent assumed it is- I don't think it is lol . Does anyone have any insight into this or the process going forward from where I am?

Re: Unemployment- Self Employed - Help please !

I wish I had an answer for you. In the same boat. Online application, call in to finish. I had to fax my 1099 forms from 2018-2019 in and I haven’t heard a thing in weeks. I tried calling to find out wtf is going on and there is no option for just asking questions. You get hung up on. I claim every week on Sunday like I’m supposed to but when I check status-it just says pending and there’s a $0 next to amount to be paid.
I keep waiting for something in the mail to tell me They need more info or if I was denied. Because if I was denied, I can then fill out the PUA form on the site and try to get that ($600 per week)

My DH is in the same boat. We have a retail business and he’s a W2 employee of that business. We filed on the same day and are in limbo

It's maddening. But here is the thing the guy that called me to confirm
My application didn't ask
Me to send in my 1099. My brother got the same call and they didn't ask
Him to send in
His 1099 they either they just said he was complete but when he called today to ask a follow up question
Today he luckily got through and they told
Him he needed to send in his 1099s!

Also how are you able to certify every week? I don't get that option! Can you tell me what steps you take to certify weekly?

I just sign in with my ID and password and follow the prompts. It allows me because my application was complete but I was never told if I was approved or not. Just says pending. When I finished app on the phone w the guy, he gave me # to fax 1099s to. Then said to claim each Sunday and check my messages on my ny.gov site to see if they ask for anything else and if i didn’t see anything in a Week to call. Yea good luck there buddy because it’s IMPOSSIBLE.

I wish I had good news for you but I just don’t. And there’s nobody to ask for help from. It’s very frustrating. At this point I’m all but ready to give up and just hope they open up some businesses so we can get back to work. I don’t want free money. More than happy to work for it

I’m in the same boat as well. I faxed my 1099s. I got a letter stating I’m not eligible for regular unemployment (you have to be determined ineligible...and then you can apply for PUA.) I filled out the PUA form online & it says I’m eligible. That was on Sunday. So far my status is still pending & at $0. You still have to claim every week, usually Sunday’s...and hope that eventually we’ll receive payment for all weeks that we claimed.

Hi Jeany! How did you come about faxing in your 1099s? The rep that called me didn't ask for my 1099s but I'm pretty sure they need it to complete my application bc I can't certify without it . I'm considering just faxing them in anyway

Hi! When I called to complete the claim they told me to fax them. I also emailed them in the message area on their website. Sometimes the “attach” button shows up when sending them a message, sometimes it doesn’t lol. At first I didn’t see it, so I faxed them. The rep told me that I could email them...but she said if that didn’t work, then to fax them. So I think they know that sometimes you’re not able to attach a document...so they just say to fax them.

I went to a UPS store & they faxed it for me & it went through with no issue...in case you need an alternative!
