How are the stores?

I haven't been in the supermarket in 10 days. I am trying hard not to go. Tried to place an order with whole foods but half the things I wanted wasn't listed. Anyone that has been in stores recently, supermarkets, whole foods, what is it like? I am so nervous about going.

Re: How are the stores?

When you say what is it like- what do you mean?
Like are the shelves stocked?
For the most part they are- some things are scarce- like the usual paper goods of course and frozen items for some reasons.
So some shelves are more bare.
But other than that, it's the same as always.

I guess I mean are they crowded, are the shelves stocked more than say a few weeks ago? I think someone here posted Whole Foods is only allowing a certain amount of people in at once which I like. I am wondering if they are still doing that. Are most people here going or trying to make due? My DH drove by Shop Rite the other day and said the parking lot was packed. I definitely don't want to go to the store when it's crowded.

Large stores like Stop n Shop are not limiting people allowed in as far as I can see.
On Sunday it was pretty crowded.
Smaller ones like Trader Joes are.
The shelves are better than a few weeks ago.
My DH goes weekly.

You are better off going at night and yes stores are now limiting how many people can come in at one time. So you will have to wait outside to get in

S&S is not limiting the people by me. Best Market was and it was a long line to get in. The BM by me is small so maybe that's why.

Last week I went to S&S about an hour before it closed. It was empty (plenty of items in stock except paper goods).

Check the stores before you go, most have different hours.

Re: How are the stores?

I have gone to Whole Foods the last 2 Saturdays around dinner time. ( in Westchester) The oen by be closes at 8 now, instead of 10 & stop & shop closes at 8 instead of 12.

2 weeks ago, there was a line to get in, but not last week. There was someone keeping track of people when they came in, but I guess there werene't enough people .

Most of the people in the store were staff shopping for online orders.

The meat & fish counters were open-they had plenty of meat, produce, and dairy. The bread was a little low, & everything was pre-wrapped, and a lot of it was pre-sliced.

They were still low on frozen vegetables.

I didn't really look for paper or cleaning products.

All of the "open" food was gone- the coffee beans, the salad bars. They had plastic 'sneeze guard" type panels at the register & they were wiping the belts down between customers. There was no one on line when we were ready to check out.

Stop & Shop was less crowded last than the week before but more crowded than whole foods and they have more food now, but no eggs, limited frozen items & no paper or cleaning products.

Rite Aid had paper products.

Yes I truly believe it has to do with the total square footage of the stores.
Smaller stores are the ones I have seen limiting the amount of people in.

Re: How are the stores?

I went to S&S on Monday at 10am. Pleasantly surprised by the 1/3 full parking lot that is almost always normally full and waiting for a spot.
They had everything available, limits on milk and fresh meat, but zero frozen veggies. I didn’t look at the paper goods or cleaning supplies because I’m still with that stuff. But I’ve heard there are limits on that too. My neighbors and I are sharing when we get stuff. She gave me 4 of her paper towels and I picked up 2 half gallons of half and half For her when I went shopping.

I went to Shop Rite a few days ago. It was pretty full. At one point they stopped people from going in until a few more people left. I found items I needed and didn't notice that many bare shelves. I think the hoarders are done hoarding for the most part.

Is anyone seeing cleaning supplies? Are they restocking those? I'm getting really low on bleach, all purpose cleaner and bathroom cleaner.

I bought some cleaning supplies online with Target. Bleach has been hard to find.

Not in Stop & Shop. They ddin't even have dish soap.

Rite Aid had dish soap & toilet bowl cleaner. And I think they had regular bathroom cleaner- i just didn't need any. They also had tissues. I didn't see bleach, but I wasn't looking.

There is a small independent gorcery store near me that had paper towels a few weeks ago when I couldn't find them anywhere. That isn't going to help to you, but if you know of a smaller store, they might have it.

I am looking for lysol multi surface spray & I haven't seen that & I am running low on rubbing alchohol.

I stopped by Ivarone Brothers and they limited people in. Had everything..eggs, milk, etc. They provided gloves and wipes. The cashiers were protected by a shield. and asked you to stand your distance when check out line.

Trader Joes was great. They are wiping down the carts and only allowing a certain number of people in at one time. They won't bag in anything but paper but you can bag into your own reusables if you want. Fully stocked when I was there at 9:45 am. I had to wait on line outside for about 20 minutes.
Uncle Guissepiese - went last Friday. They had everything too - meat, cheese, bread, eggs...ect. Just more expensive then most supermarkets.

I went to Meat Farms last night, about a half hour before they closed (now 8 instead of 9).It was pretty empty (of people). The shelves were well stocked - plenty of fruit, meat and chicken and almost everything else, except toilet paper. It was a pretty good experience overall.

Re: How are the stores?

i feel that stores are starting to settle down into their new normal.

i went to a supermarket this morning. they have a sign outside where they list the items they are out of. kind of like a sandwich board.
the only item on the list today was disinfectant wipes.

it was my first trip to the supermarket since the first week of march.
