immunocompromised

My aunt is older and immunocompromised. She is out and about every.single.day. The other day she reposted like 5 or 6 different rants on FB telling ppl to stay the f**k home. I didn't do it on FB, but I called her out over the phone while she was out at the grocery store browsing for "essentials". She didn't know what to say. Like why do you think you're special and "stay home" doesn't apply to you? It's going to be hard to have sympathy when she gets sick.

Honestly, I know too many people that are immunocompromised that are out doing shit every day while we're staying home. I just talked to my BIL (very recent cancer survivor) and him and his wife are out shopping for 3 hrs just to "get out of the house". They've been going to crowded parks to walk, going to the dollar store, big lots, etc. Like wtf are you shopping for 3 hrs in that store for?

I'm so sick of being stuck inside. If these people don't care about protecting themselves then they deserve to catch it. I'm so tired of everything being about us protecting the immunocompromised. Quarantine them, if they want to go in public, they know the risks. Sorry if this seems bitchy and normally I do care about society, but I'm annoyed right now.

Re: immunocompromised

First I want to know how the Dollar Store is an essential business and is open right now? Chat Icon

Secondly I agree with you. If I were immunocompromised I'd be hiding under my bed right now.
You would thing they'd be scared with a compromised immune system and all the talk about the 80% having to stay in to protect the 20% etc

It's nuts

Re: immunocompromised

I have no clue how a dollar store is considered essential. I know they sell some food and first aid, but is a $1 pack of 5 band-aids really a necessity?

I just spoke with my sister. She ran to the store to get milk because she couldn't get an instacart delivery. She said the amount of older people in the store was insane. No young people at all except the workers. I don't understand it.

I think diollar store is considered grocery and for low income folks it is.

My MIl is the same. Ranting and raving on FB about others being near her when she shops. Not limiting to once a week or something, she shops daily or every other day. Zero self awareness. So selfish.

Some people live in food deserts and the dollar store is their only way to get food. I understand that may not be the case on LI, but in rural areas that may be the case.

My mom works at a grocery store and says it is filled with elderly people. She said most live alone and are so lonely that they use the grocery store for socialization.

I’ve been out of the house 2x in the last three weeks.

I have been saying this for weeks.

I go out 2x a day to dog walk.

I can't tell you many seniors I see out and about. Everywhere. Everyday! It's crazy.

I don’t know what it is but my 67 yr old father is totally unbothered by this and still shopping at the hardware store for ******** and everything. I think the retirees maybe it hasn’t hit them as hard because not much is changed other than a few of there favorite food spots doing take out only?Chat Icon

Some of the elderly I wonder if early dementia is playing a roll in this. I also wonder if the isolation and loneliness is viewed as worse than death so they say screw it and head out. Denial is the third option but I really dint see how you can watch the news, fit into the categories they mention and not be scarred.
