Grocery lines

Does anyone know what the determining factor is in whether or not a grocery store is required to limit the number of shoppers?

I do my usual shopping at Trader Joe's and Iavarone. Long lines outside for both. Checked Best Market, lines. Gave up and went to Stop and Shop, which was fairly crowded, no line.

Why is that?

I honestly don’t know. I ran into Walgreens the other day to get toothpaste and there was someone standing at the door because only 10 people at a time were allowed 8n the store. Not sure if grocery stores are doing this or some but not all?

I can tell you for a fact that Target and Stop n Shop are not watching who comes in.
Those are the only 2 stores I have been to though

Re: Grocery lines

Have never been on a line on Sundays. People seem to go on weekdays and Saturday’s.

Iavarone’s is definitely limiting the number of people in the store at one time. My DH went yesterday and he said there was an employee standing at the door counting people and he wiped down his cart for him before he could enter the store. I love that they’re taking this very seriously.

Costco made me laugh. You get your cart outside the store and have to wheel it to the front entrance where they check your membership card. At that point an employee grabs the cart away from you and starts wiping it down. After you already touched it to wheel it in. Genius

Does anyone know if there are lines all day at Trader Joe's? I was thinking of going later even though it may be less stocked.

Maybe call the store before you think about going and just asking if they’re busy at that moment ?

Re: Grocery lines

I'm wondering if it has to do with the square footage of the store? Trader Joe's are usually smaller and the aisles are so tight.
A store like a stop n shop is a much larger space.

I was just at Stop n Shop now and there was no limits whatsoever on who went in and it was pretty crowded to the point I felt like every aisle I went down people were right up my ass.

They were cleaning and sanitizing like mad though. One guy was assigned to the self check out area and was spraying and wiping every kiosk after they were used.

Re: Grocery lines

Wow, I’m really surprised that they aren’t doing more to stop crowds. They have announcements in the supermarkets here telling you to keep your distance. They will have lines outside the supermarket before you can go in if it is too crowded. There are shields between the customer and the cashier. When waiting on line, they have lines marked off where you should stand 1.5 meters apart.

No sanitizing of carts is happening, but I just sanitize whenever I leave and wash my hands when I get home and sanitize what I bought at the supermarket and then I bleach all things I touched from when I was out until I got home. I also spray down my keys and wipe down my wallet.

So what exactly are the stores doing there??? Or is left for everyone to do it on their own? Because that is not going to work.

Trader Joe's has been awesome! Limiting the number inside and handing out wipes for the cart.

Whole Foods (commack) is awesome! They limit the # of people allowed in and have tape markings outside and inside at the registers to space people out 6 ft. They have sanitizing stations with wipes when you enter and exit.

Depends on the store I guess.
There were some announcements and signs in stop n shop about keeping your distance, all self serve things like bread and rolls that you bag yourself are temporarily closed , the deli meat is now precut and wrapped for you to just grab and not wait around the deli to place an order.
And they are sanitizing touch screens and self checkouts as well as other areas in the store.
Sanitizing wipes available at entrances and exits
Target is pretty much the same.
They are larger stores.
I think smaller square footage stores like Trader Joe's have more restrictions

I think it is up to the store. Trader Joes & Whole Foods were limiting people, but stop & shop wasn't. Rite Aid had tape marking how close you could stand in line.
