Is there a number to call...

Is there anyone I can call regarding a neighbor that is allowing her young boys to have social gatherings? And yelling the parent isn't an option because she is sitting there, watching this while having her wine.

If they were inside, I wouldn't care as much but my kids go out in the backyard and these kids are gathering and balls they are playing with are getting tossed over my fence and my kids are grabbing at them (they are young and don't know any better).

So what can I do?

I would talk to her myself but she yelled to me..."yea, we are not really social distancing hahaha" while having a playdate.

Re: Is there a number to call...

Someone here posted a number to report things but I think that was more for gatherings over a certain number and things like weddings, back room bars, businesses staying open when ordered to close etc..
Not sure they can do anything about people in their own yard though

Re: Is there a number to call...

From what I've read, there are no fines or anything for individuals unless they are on public property and refuse to leave when the police are called. So they are basically allowing people to police themselves.

That was me though I posted it more to exhibit the idiocy that happens on this island and not so much to narc on neighbors letting their kids run around in the backyard.

I suppose you could attempt to turn them in but I don’t think Nassau county is going to do anything about people in their yard.

I'd mind my own business on this one. I wouldn't have playdates, but you shouldn't dictate what others do. i feel the same way about police issuing summons on individuals....we are a free society and there will always be those who break the guidelines. It's not a felony, but it is sh*tty.

I can see what you’re saying and i’d normally say the same - just MYOB. But the more people do this, the more the rest of us have to be jailed in their houses.

To the OP: I’d call 311. I don’t know if they’d do anything but I’d feel the need to do something

While I agree it's a moral issue, I don't believe it's a criminal matter so I don't think the police can do much

Not sure where you're located but I saw this in an article on Newsday.com

In Nassau, you can lodge your complaints via email at [email protected].

In Suffolk, you can call 311 or (631)-852-COPS.

Re: Is there a number to call...

This is what they said when they issued the stay at home directives....

There will be civil fines for employers who break the order. While there are no legal consequences for individuals who are in public, crowds will be broken up.

That's crowds in public though. Not private homes/backyards

On my local Facebook group the moms are posting photos ... it has seemed to work because apparently the boys track coach had said the boys should still run. So they were running together. Then people took photos and now they are running individually.

I would stop returning whatever toys make it over the fence.

Ugh that would bug me. I would call the numbers listed up thread.

They aren’t really doing social distancing? WTF kind of answer is that? Well maybe they will when someone in their family gets it and then they might have to social distance— forever.

I just read the same article but it specifically said they will only break up groups if they are in public. They arent going to enter homes or yards.

I really don't think anyone should be posting pictures of minors on social media w/o consent.

I can't believe people are still downplaying this when the cases in this country have now surpassed both Italy and China and continue to be on the rise!

And that’s why the numbers are so high here. No one really takes this seriously. They don’t want to watch the news as it is all “bad” and think it is no big deal.

You can call the non- emergency number for the local precinct- in my neighborhood someone reported a soccer game and they apparently sent an officer to break it up.

Re: Is there a number to call...

I thought of this thread tonight. We were heading to pick up take out and I saw a bunch of people sitting on those camping chairs with red cups in an area of my neighborhood that has no houses...it's like an open area of land that I believe belongs to the town...there is some utility boxes, etc on it. There are houses directly across the street though and on either side.
They weren't far apart either. All sitting close together.
I rolled my eyes.
By the time we got back it was dark, and there were 2 cop cars there and the cops were out breaking it up.
Not sure why these assholes didn't just go to each other's yards if they wanted to have a party.
I assume someone in one of the houses across the street called the cops because you aren't supposed to be sitting there or drinking there regardless of the current situation and social distancing.
And ps.... these were grown ass adults. Not teenagers.

Do we live on the same block?

My neighbors and their kids are gathering in groups of 10/15 every.single.day. Tonight I counted twelve kids and six adults. Kids were playing ball on the lawn-. the adults having happy hour.

Parents are police officers.....

My ten year old has a better grasp on what’s happening.

Wanted to share this. CBS has this on their FB page

Are you seeing troubling violations of the NYS stay-home order in Nassau County?
Email: [email protected]
and help get Nassau under control! Violators are putting everyone at risk and prolonging this crisis.

In Suffolk County
Non-essential businesses that are still operating can be reported to 631-852-COPS.

Is there a number to call...

My neighbors are not complying in the least. They had three separate visitors before 12. They now have at least 8 8th/9th grade boys playing basketball at their house. Last week, they had a party. Three different people brought over cases of beer.

I’m sorry. Your neighbors are assholes. It’s people like them that keep us all stuck inside. Our businesses closed and losing work and OUR MINDS.

I’m sorry. I’d call on them. I’m a huge believer of MYOB. But with this? Nope
