Yep see this all the time when i'm out so i do not wear them. Also, see them go into their purse with the gloved hands and get their wallet then money out. Defeats the purpose. Wash/sanitize your hands and keep your distance...thats all you can do. Wearing a placebo does not.
I agree with you. I am not an OCD person. But whether I wear gloves or use sanitizer- there always seems to be that last item I touched that I believe I contaminated. (ie car door handle or hand sanitizer bottle.) Feels like a game of whack-a-mole
LOL. I feel like that sometimes too lately.
Like I washed my hands then I accidentally grab something before eating like a drawer handle to get a fork.
DAMN have to wash again.
LOL
I think we're all getting batty to be honest.

So, in early February I started to take this very seriously. I bought one box of surgical masks and one box of N95 masks. I bought them from a site called “contagionsurvival.com” so at the time I didn’t exactly think I was taking them out of the hands of healthcare providers. I literally couldn’t imagine at that time that our doctors and nurses and hospitals would run out so early in the epidemic. After I heard about the shortage, I gave 10 of my 15 masks to a doctor friend. I held on to 5 of them. My plan is to hoard them either for her, or if I need to run an errand out of necessity that I deem to be especially risky - whichever happens first.
Am I a bad person bc I took this really seriously while people scoffed at me? I have gloves and Lysol and bleach wipes and hand sanitizer and canned food and toilet paper. Not in excessive quantities but in enough to provide for me and my three kids for about 3 weeks to a month, which seemed prudent to me. I’m a single mom and I learned a long time that I have only myself to rely on. No one is going to swoop in and save me or my children. Protecting my family is the most important thing in the world to me. The derogatory comments aimed at people like me, people who thought about this and actually PLANNED instead of sitting around and rolling their eyes, talking about how this is “just like the flu” are really rankling me. Am I supposed to unload everything I bought months ago to protect myself and my children? Because apparently no one else had any forethought? I’m sharing as much as I can with my loved ones and healthcare providers , but the idea that I’m some kind of criminal because I have masks is frustrating to me.

If people are properly social distancing they shouldn’t need a mask to go to stop and shop.
The only person I know who has n95s for personal use is my mom who is severely immunocompromised and cannot fully social distance because she has to go to dialysis three times a week.
A person with a normal immune system who keeps their distance from others in a store does not need a mask.

i do not wear gloves. if i am getting cart i wipe it down with hand sanitizer. I only bring my phone keys and card I am using to pay in.
As soon as i get it i use hand sanitizer wipe down keys phone card and then hand sanitizer again after I do that.
then when i get home i wash my hands with soap and water.
we have a friend who sews who made us the masks they were asking people to make for the Healthcare workers.
i can see my DH asking me to now wear them when I leave the house now.
my DH job is considered essential and he has to go into peoples houses so we really got them so he can use it over the dust masks he has to try to protect him in someway

Back in February I almost wrote on here - Fail to plan, plan to fail. You had the foresight to take the necessary steps to make sure you and your children can remain safe. Your 5 masks are not going to do anything for the medical community and they could help prevent you, the caregiver to three children a chance to not contract this. Shame on anyone that makes you feel bad for that.

Haven't been out much except to the grocery store where I will wipe down the cart before I use it. I have seen some people with N95 masks in the store - not the surgical kind, the legit N95 ones - and it really bothers me. Surgical masks wouldn't really upset me, the the N95 wearers do. The mayor and governor are moaning every day about not having enough PPE for medical workers and lay people are using them to food shop? Save them for those on the front line that need them.
Yes but if someone has an open box of these masks in their home then they might as well use them. They will only accept unopened boxes. We have 3 of these masks. They’ve never been used but they do have some marks on them.

I have plastic gloves for food service that I bought over a year ago. The package is open, they're not fitted, so they are of no use to a medical professional. I have used them at the gas pump. I put them on, pump the gas, then take them off and put them in the trash before I get back into my car.

You might want to give some people the benefit of the doubt thou. My mom has an N95 mask that she has had and used prior to any shortage but she is elderly and imuno compromised and lives alone. She is not going out much at all these days but she does need to grocery shop every so often. You could be seeing someone who has cancer but still needs to eat.

Thank you for saying this !!!!!!!. I wasn’t even able to find masks in January when I was watching the news out of China. for everyone who told me I was overreacting and that it was “just the flu” I swear I wish they were right. I wish it didn’t get as bad as I expected.

I don't wear either. I haven't really been going to the store because I don't need anything. I did go to CVS the other day for allergy meds. I skeeve at touching the card machine. But, she said she had just sprayed it. The second I left the store, I alcohol wiped my hands.

Please do not let anyone make you feel guilty or shamed for stocking up, wearing masks & gloves right now.
The best we can do is help flatten the curve by staying home. But if you must go out, be as careful as you can.

I went to the supermarket today for my “big shop”. It had been about 3 weeks. It was my first time out in about over a week.
I thought about wearing a mask (scarf) and gloves, but I didn’t— just a lot of hand sanitizer. Washed my hands, sprayed down my keys and door handle, and put away dairy. The other stuff is in a bag and I’ll let that sit for a few hours and then put it away.
I’m probably going to go another week in self-isolation.

We’re in Queens & we’ve been going to small local markets for food once or twice a week & we’ve been to CVS. I feel like we are the only 2 without a mask & gloves! Where is everyone getting them? The majority here are wearing them everywhere.

I have a few masks and gloves in my car but they are only if I have to go into a home (for work). I am not wearing them to stores. I did stop into Walgreens the other day and picked up pizza the other day. But we are basically staying put...
ETA. The masks were provided by my job which requires us to do home visits...

Whats irking me is that people are just disposing of their gloves in the parking lot and leave a big mess. I went to BJ's Friday night and there were gloves all over the parking lot.

The truth is, masks can be very effective in reducing the number of people infected by persons infected, and the rate at which the virus spreads.
Masks sewn from cotton t-shirts are 70% effective. Tea towels, 80%.

no mask, gloves once ( not sure why) but like other I wipe the handle of the cart down. I only take my wallet, keys and phone in. That I put in a clear bag plastic bag so I can place it in the cart.

Ugh, yes!! I did a curbside grocery pickup over the weekend and holy crap! The parking lot looked like a crime scene. It was disgusting. People are really just so gross.

I noticed tampons were wiped off the shelves a week or so ago too.
Maxi pads...maybe you can wipe with. 
But what on earth are people doing stockpiling tampons?? 
Then I saw something on facebook about taking a roll of paper towels, cutting it in half and using the 2 halves as 2 rolls of TP.
All I could think of was- OMG if you flush paper towels you are going to have a major plumbing issue and a $400 roto rooter bill!
Nassau county executive Laura curran already said this a problem of people flushing items other than toilet paper.

I know in some parts of Asia they can get a fine for not wearing a mask. I don’t trust China’s numbers at all (read that the number of urns they ordered far exceeds their death numbers), but S. Korea has done an excellent job.
They usually wear masks if they are sick because it helps the throat. But now, they are saying this virus can stick around in droplets in the air for three hours, but be alive for 1/2 hour. How do I know if someone sneezed or breathed heavy 1/2 hour before me?!
This article https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-03-29/coronavirus-choir-outbreak frightened me. They followed all the rules, but were in a crowd. Yes, it’s a crowd, but put it into perspective. There may be 60 people in a supermarket at one time all following the rules.
I’m reconsidering masks.
ETA: I have gloves already, but only because I use a lot of hot peppers in cooking. I had a bad experience of cutting peppers without gloves. Never again. I won’t use them for this crisis. I don’t think they do anything.
