IF you have additional down time...

... are you doing anything "big" with it?

are you starting your spring cleaning?
learning a new craft?
finally finishing that sewing project you started last year?

i know a lot of you have children, so i'm not assuming everyone is at home eating bonbons while i'm at work Chat Icon. just wondering if some fun things are happening out there.

Re: IF you have additional down time...

I am a teacher and have 2 boys. So, I actually am busy. I dont consider it home schooling, because the kids are not learning anything new. They are doing their Google Classroom assignments. I have been grading and checking in with my students via Google Classroom. I have been cleaning, and started painting our basement. It is partially finished. WE have been taking walks in our neighborhood, and playing outside (on sunny days).

Nope. I am working harder than ever to telework, keep up with emails and zoom meetings and home school my kindergartener.

I keep trying to read something - anything other than Social Media post.
Nope.

Clean? I am cleaning the same things everyday to make sure there are no straggling Covid19 germs on anything from the mail or anything really

I'm tackling the big cleaning out jobs I've been wanting to do. I cleaned out my basement. (Moved a lot of things to the attic) Then I cleaned out the attic. (I moved a lot of things to the garage). Next, I cleaned out the garage. Yop you guessed it!

I'm very busy everyday!

IF you have additional down time...

I am busier than I would be if I was teaching at school. With that said, we are definitely getting more quality time as a family and I am getting more sleep.

Oh wait, wait. I am definitely picking up a new drinking habit. Definitely doing better with having a glass of wine every night.
So there is that....

i am trying to figure out this extra time business and how so many people seem to have this extra time. It aint happening for me. I am working from home and schooling two kids . Its exhausting and not very quality lol. I think I may skip the working part bc it seems like all work appearance sand deadlines have been moved out 30-90 days so nothing in burning up the track. Im in the legal field. It should be really interesting to see what happens when I am expected back at work and my kids are still home from school.

Tom Collins and i have renewed our romance, so i feel ya.

since my shoulder issue, i had stopped knitting. now that PT is making a difference, i was given permission to knit again... in 15-minute increments. so i've started knitting baby hats for a friend who is expecting a baby in the late summer/early autumn.

Re: IF you have additional down time...

So on a positive note, my friend at work has started making masks for healthcare workers with a sewing pattern from JoAnns crafts that is approved by the CDC.
I thought that was a pretty cool use of time.

Mostly drinking and trying not to cry.

Also trying to go for walks but this is very stressful. I’m not good at failing simultaneously at working and teaching/mothering kids. It’s tough.

I envy people who are using this time to better themselves or their homes. My neighbors are out there doing yard work and painting and such. Hoping I can get into a headspace to be like that.

IF you have additional down time...

I wish I could clean, but with a 1,3, and 5 year old home, and dh working from home, it’s all i can do to just keep stuff put away. Our house is too small to do any major cleaning when my kids are sleeping because it would wake them.

I have been doing jigsaw puzzles, and I had taken out a textbook to read for pleasure before all of this, so I’m going through that. I should also try to finish the cross stitch stocking i started last year lol. DH is designing a LEGO build of our home on the computer.

YES! I have started cleaning and organizing every inch of my house. The garages, the sheds, every closet, every cabinet. I still have the basement, my bedroom/bathroom, a few other closets and the attic to go.
I’m also painting 4 rooms and would love to start renovating one of the bathrooms but don’t feel right going out to shop for tiles and supplies.

IF you have additional down time...

We are trying to finish the 2nd floor renovation that we started last May. My sons hockey career (yes at age 8) had taken over our life so this is honestly the best thing that could have happened for our house. In a week I might actually have floor installed and can move my furniture back in my house and get the shipping container out of my driveway!!!!

Re: IF you have additional down time...

So I was raised by parents who grew up poor. My husband was not - and they weren’t wealthy I guess it was just different?

Anyway for the last 20 years we’ve kind of had a silly difference in style where he wastes a full serving of ketchup/jelly whatever. Ever since corona he’s suddenly scraping the jars clean. Lol. I guess he gets it now. He is finally willing to eat the end piece of bread!

It is interesting to think how this will change us and our kids. My grandmother dropped out of school in 6th grade to work to support 9 younger siblings in the great depression and I think that had a big influence of my dad and even how I was raised. Obviously that’s extreme but just interesting. I’m so good at making soups and being creative to never waste food. My husband jokes I was born for a pandemic.

So far my kids are young and think this has been fun. But it is interesting to think how this will also divide a generation. Kind of like 9/11, I now work with people who were babies then and don’t “get it”. Just seems a generational dividing line. Since my kids are young, they are likely to remember this as fun vs kids just 5 yrs older. Just something interesting I think about.

I have been choosing where we get take out from based on what cocktails they offer for curbside. I had the best sangria the other day. (I'm not going to lie..I have a whole process for take out though - throwing out containers, re-heating the food, blah blah blah LOL)

Very true. I guess we will have to see how this takes its course. I am super worried about our economy.

I wonder if we are all going to develop major germaphobia after this. Or more OCD handwashers. I have never been cleaner in my entire life.
