Re: Are you all going to supermarkets or trying to make due with what you have

I have not gone to any grocery stores in 2 weeks. I went to costco 2 weeks ago just to get a few items. My husband went to the grocery store 3 times in the past two weeks just to get what he could get. I have various items being delivered like pasta, snacks, diapers, wipes and formula since i am about to give birth. My husband did not think it would get this bad. He will have to go shopping again soon since we are running out of meat and he needs meat with every meal.

We’ve been managing with delivery- prime now/Whole Foods, and insta cart. If you are persistent, you can snag a delivery slot.

And I ordered from bjs.com and vitacost for non-perishables.

It’s not necessary for us to be in the grocery store.

How have you found delivery to be with things being in or out of stock? I don't allow substitutions bc of food allergies so I worry I'll order a bunch of stuff and they won't have it. I figure it will be easier to go to the store myself so I know what they have but I wasn't sure.

I got REALLY lucky and got an amazon fresh time slot the other day. I stocked up on a ton of stuff and plan to sit at home for the next two weeks if I can make it that long

Re: Are you all going to supermarkets or trying to make due with what you have

I’ve had delivery of groceries from Whole Foods/amazon, Costco, and my local store that was a restaurant but is now offering groceries. I have not been to a grocery store in two weeks. There is a butcher near me in no that is delivering too.

Tricky- instaCart will text you directly, so it is easier to talk to them about what you do/don’t want with regards to substitutions. Whole Foods/prime now will offer you one substitution if your item is out of stock, and you can accept or decline it. But you can’t ask for other substitutions and their system lags a bit, so sometimes by the time I respond they have already completed the order. It’s not ideal, but I’ve been over-ordering a bit to make sure I get what I need. (A few kinds of yogurt, etc)

Yeah, I over ordered juices, so I hopefully get what I want. I mean I like what I ordered and if I get them all then I will drink them over the next month.

Why aren't they restocked yet?
Or do they get restocked and people wait outside the store with an inside tip like vultures to buy them up the second they come off the truck?

Glad to see stuff is coming back in stock.
Maybe with more people staying home the stores can catch up with the restocking.
I did see signs in Target this weekend about limiting one per person on certain things.
And that's the way it should be.
Stop the fuking hoarding

I think people do snatch them up. and I agree, it should be limit 1-2 per person. not entire carts full just for one person. I am out of 409 cleaner that I normally use to clean my bathrooms and no one has it. and my bounty napkins and paper towels. can't find them anywhere.

and for all the people saying it's easy to order online, you are just getting lucky. I spent like a total of 8 hours trying to shop online and never get a time slot for delivery or pickup.

Did nobody ever clean before this?
I am not a huge cleaner, but I have all these cleaning supplies in my house on a normal basis I didn't have to buy one thing. Now if I run out, that's another story.

We normally go once a week. With all us of being home, we've needed to pick up produce mid-week. That being said, only my husband has been going so we are minimizing exposure.

But there is plenty of shampoo, body wash and deodorant so I guess people aren’t as concerned with cleaning their bodies.

We are pretty good on food for a good month, however, there are things that we use a lot that we have to replenish like milk or bread that we still pick up

My husband did a huge haul at BJ’s. He is used to working 2 jobs and is home now. I think he is losing it. If I have to hear one more time about chicken and how many meals he is gonna get out of the chicken and how much money he saved by cutting up whole chickens vs buying cut breasts, I a, gonna snap. He pulled everything out of the pantry the other night and did an “inventory of snacks.” I think we are ok for 6 weeks or more...

I have no room in my freezer. Plus my 5 year old can go through 15 Greek yogurts in a week. I wish I was kidding. I’d tell him to cut back but he is having a very hard time with this. He literally cried when I said he couldn’t come to the store with me. I’ll let him eat 30 yogurts a week if it makes him happy. I also really like having a banana daily. I guess it’s a luxury at this point but I enjoy it so I’ll keep going to the store every 10 days. It’s the only adventure I go on.

I hear you. I went shopping 7 AM Friday, spent 1 1 1/2 hr was 15 min late for work

I told my family/parents (shopping for them too) this is it for a while. Make it last as I went last Sunday but to the small store around the block. I feel we have enough for the next 10-14 days.

peapod has been easy. I got an april 9th time slot at 7am the day they released them. It's far away, but who cares I got one!. I plan to do this with my husband's account tomorrow to get the week following. You have to plan far ahead, but you can update the cart up until the night before
