If you’re working from home
What are you doing with your young kids? I have a 4 year old and DH and I have jobs that require our full attention and at 4 she can only be left to her own devices for so long. Today was a nightmare.
I was thinking about trying to find a mother’s helper but am already anticipating the attacks that I’m not taking this seriously.
Please send ideas.

If you’re working from home
My son is 5. My DH frequently works from home when my DS doesn’t have school.
It’s best to have activities planned that they can do independently. My DS likes to color, build with legos, play with cars, play on the tablet (ABC Mouse currently) and then obviously TV. My DH takes an actual 45 minute lunch break to entertain him for a bit. Maybe you and your DH could stagger your lunches?

If you’re working from home
Definitely post in your town's mom group or school district group on social media. In my town there's teachers, babysitters who aren't watching children at the moment, and substitute teachers all looking to help with childcare.

We don’t take lunch breaks. A lot of our time is spent on calls so we cannot have interruptions.

We are sharing the responsibility. So half the day DH has to be the teacher and half I do. Our job fully understands as this is the norm now and not the exception

I have 3 kids: 11, 8 and 5.
Just tonight i posted their individual schedules on our sliding door, as well as educational sites that are free. Surprisingly they are excited about them. Probably because i'm not big on screen time and if they adhere to the schedule, they get screen time each night at 5pm.
I'm sure it won't last long but it's too much of a free for all without a schedule. 
*My husband is a police officer so when he's around, he'll be home while i run into the office. When he's not home, i'll be home with the kids working from home.

DD #2 will be 4 in April and DD #1 is 12. Right now they are entertaining each other when they can. My job is non stop all day long but I have been taking a lunch hour to breathe and feed my kids.
When I have a huddle or conference call I will put DD #2 in the family room with a movie on and a snack. She can generally stay quiet for about an hour if she's entertained. Otherwise I'm making the best of it. Luckily my boss is very understanding and there are a lot of us in the same situation. These are unusual times so we're just trying to do our best.
ETA: Tomorrow my parents who normally stay with my kids are coming over to help. They are over 65 although in great help so I prefer them to stay home as much as they can but I think they want to come and see the girls and get a break from isolation so they'll come here for a bit.

I'm having the opposite problem. I work in healthcare so its near constant calls about COVID, advising, discussing, etc. So it's much busier than usual.

I have four kids 6 and under (6, 4, 2, and 8 months). I work as a teacher and we are going to be utilizing home instruction beginning Wednesday. I am trying to figure out how to get everything done while being able to homeschool my kids (2 are in school) when their instruction begins, take care of the smallest ones, and provide effective instruction to my students in these uncharted waters. Plus, DH has to work. Thankfully my parents are close, but it’s still going to be a challenge.
Let’s pray for us all!

Today was a disaster. I was swamped, DH was at work and the kids were bored.
I’m thinking after Wednesday things will be better. I will still be busy at work but not overwhelmed so I can take more breaks and just prolong by work day.

My kids are 6 and 9. I basically let them do whatever they want today so I could get stuff done. Today and tomorrow are snow days so no school work. Wednesday I think start online work not looking forward to that.
If your not paying for your original sitter or if you can swing both I would see if someone can come in to help you. It seems scope people and teacher aids are worried they won’t be paid I’m sure there are plenty of people willing to come and help you.

My daughter is almost 8. She's been face-timing her friends, having virtual play dates LOL She's also been reading and drawing. I am waiting for the district to figure out what they are doing about school work (I should hear something today)

I thought about having a mother's helper too but the thing is, they are all college aged and I'm worried they were out partying this weekend. I have turned into a paranoid psycho. I need to chill the f out.
I am doing a combo of ipad, kicking them outside, movies and making them watch educational stuff on the computer.

I'm working from home as well. I am trying to get things done mainly by email because I have two kids at home and it is really hard to video chat or call with them in the background. It's going to be a long few weeks.

My DH locks himself in his office to work. Granted he developed and is in charge of the computer system that is company uses to work from home so he's been busy. I work in NYC schools so I will have to do tele-therapy some how and I don't know how I'll make that work with my son home, and trying to do his school work.

That's how my husband's job is (IT in the medical field.) He was on non-stop calls yesterday. There was no way he could have watched a four year old. ( We don't have kids.)
It's tough when it is both of you in that situation.
I have a single mom friend who is trying to figure out how to watch her 9 month old (who really can't do anything other than nap by himself) and teach online at the same time.
I honestly don't think having someone come help is that bad. you are just supposed to limit the number of people you are seeing. so if the sitter isn't going out other than coming to your house, they wouldn't really be spreading germs to/from your house. You may get each other sick if you have already been exposed, but if you all limiting your interactions, you wouldn't get many others the other sick & you are limiting the odds that you are getting the germs elsewhere and bringing it to each other.
My grandmother lives alone & has 2 aides that stay with her for a few days at a time. They are still coming. They are taking the LIRR when they switch off so there is some risk, but as long as they are symptom free, they are coming. She can't be alone.

I agree and what people seem to fail to realize is, this thing is NOT airborne. You won't get it from sitting next to someone. Someone walking into your house isn't going to spread it just by them breathing in your space. (I know OP knows this, I"m just referring to people in general)
I wash my hands like a mad woman. Just keep everyone washing their hands before touching their face and eating. Wipe down the surfaces.
Have them wash their hands when entering your home. Have them wash their hands frequently while there. I think you'll be ok

I work for the dept of social services. My job is considered essential employee. I have a laptop and work remotely but need to be available to leave my home at any time. My DH is in retail and has off until April 2nd because his store is now closed. He said to me “oh you can watch the kids” lol. I said no that’s not how this works I need to be available from 830-430. This is going to be a nightmare trying to work with the kids at home. If my husband was working I would have to bring them to my dad’s...
