What are those of you who have plans overseas planning on doing? I was curious and saw that Italy is at a level 3 to avoid unnecessary travel but there is no ban currently. I would think even with travel insurance if you cancel, you're out the money, right?

We are taking a wait and see approach. Hopefully the situation will get better in the next month or two (we go at the end of May).

As far as travel insurance, unless you have specifically purchased CFAR insurance (Cancel for Any Reason), you are out of luck - travel insurance does NOT cover pandemic.

The problem is that you can't buy CFAR insurance in New York. The policy is unenforceable.

Under NYS law, CFAR insurance is not available to purchase. It's one of the few states it's not allowed because it's not truly insurance because "... this coverage is not based upon the happening of a fortuitous event within the meaning of Insurance Law § 1101, it is not insurance under the Insurance Law."

We are traveling to Hawaii next month and are taking a wait and see approach also. I’m hoping things will calm down by then. If Hawaii gets to a level 3, I’m not going.

We have postponed our trip.

The Tour Company we are using keeps cancelling the tours; we might be next. If we aren't, we are postponing it anyway. Our airline isn't even flying to Italy until after May.

A lot of venues are closed in Italy at this point; which is the part we will be in for the first week.

At this point; it is better off for all of us to postpone....

We're planning to go to DC next month for spring break - so we're also in a wait and see situation. We've only reserved the hotel at this point so it's not like we'd be out a lot of money for shows, etc.

We have a trip to Disney planned for June, and a cruise planned for October. So far, Disney has closed 3 parks - Shanghai, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. I don't doubt that they will close Orlando and California (or Paris) if need be. I'll worry about the Disney trip then.

I don't have trip insurance for the cruise - but I can cancel without penalty up until July. For right now, it's on.

We have a Disney trip planned for August. Hopefully it’s better by then. Our flight booking opens next Thursday. I’d like to still book.

With that said, my sister cancelled her trip to Turks and my ILs cancelled their trip to Southern California.

I am going to a bachelorette part in Miami in May. As of now, that is not cancelled.

I am going to FL at the end of the month. Unless my girlfriends decide to cancel, I am going. I am one of those crazy people that always disinfects the airplane seat/seat back/arm rests and hotel room away.

I am supposed to go on a mom/daughter trip with my mom in May. Right now, we are still planning on going, but my mom has a heart condition and is over 70, so I don't know if we will go. She told me she still wants to go, but we will see.

Spain in May is also a wait and see. We also have a Disney trip scheduled in November. As of today, those trips are still happening unless things worsen.

Yup, I always do those things also, and always have. It's crazy to me that people don't do that without a crazy virus going around.

And that is why everyone is sick all the time.
Anytime I pass stat health on a Saturday -or any day really- it's packed. All.the.time.
People apparently are filthy, don't wash their hands, don't buy cleaning supplies, unless the media creates a panic.
So there you have it

Re: OK, I'll bring it up....Coronavirus

Came across this article today......

I am in Milan in the heart of the coronavirus red zone . I know we are all sick of hearing about it. I certainly am, but I wanted to share these thoughts because I feel like there is a lot of misinformation out there. Considering we've been in some form of lockdown for three weeks now (now drastic measures are being taken and we are quarantined at home), I feel like I've become somewhat of an expert on this. At least, this is my experience and what I've learned in these weeks.

We are fine physically (for now), but, mentally, quarantine conditions and the devastating news around us does take its toll. To anyone anywhere saying, “Hey, it’s just the flu” or “The flu causes more deaths per year,” STOP. The rate of transmission with coronavirus is much higher and none of us is vaccinated against it. Worse, it causes a type of pneumonia that can leave patients in intensive care for weeks. The idea that it only affects the elderly or those with immune disorders is also wrong.

No healthcare system in the world can handle the onslaught this virus brings with it, and we should not put our doctors and nurses in a position where they have to decide who gets the last bed in intensive care, who gets the last respirator.

The hospital down the road where my children were born has had to adopt a “selection protocol” whereby they decide who lives or dies, and this is something that hasn’t been enacted since World War II. As someone who has been mired in all of this since Feb. 24. I would just like to give some advice to anyone in the world in an area where coronavirus is starting to ramp up. First and foremost, you don’t necessarily need to hoard toilet paper but you should get stocked up on your prescriptions. Primary-care doctors are at great risk of being exposed to coronavirus, so if they are taken out of commission (and even once the madness reaches fever pitch), it makes it harder for you to get the things you need. Also, once this is widespread, medical offices, hospitals and pharmacies are not places you want to hang out.

Finally, we are all soldiers in this fight. The less we are out and about, moving around, the more this virus dies out. We may have to be inconvenienced or have to change our habits for a while, but our actions have a direct impact on the lives of everyone around us, with effects that are felt far and wide.

Thank you for sharing this. It's pretty powerful. I do believe the possibility of our hospitals becoming overwhelmed is real, and it's frightening. I hope it doesn't come to that, but the best way to prevent that from happening is if we ALL take steps to avoid the spread of the virus

Any updates on what everyone is doing travel-wise? Hawaiian Airlines is issuing waivers for our flight dates at the end of April. We’re going to wait till next week maybe, but are most likely postponing our trip for sometime in the fall. We’re going to have to switch all our inter-island flights and chnage all the hotel dates.

We are canceling Spain at the end of May. Even though the travel ban right now only runs through the end of April, we have decided not to leave the country for fear of not being able to return.

Up in the air right now about FL at the end of the month and Hilton Head in the beginning of May.

I just booked a trip to Puerto Rico for Spring Break in April. If something disasterous happens, we can always cancel since I used miles. The flights are so cheap though. $98 not using miles!

I hear you! But, I saw Aruba and St. Maarten aren't allowing anyone in that isn't a resident. I don't know if PR will do the same since it's the US. But, I'm prepared to cancel. Especially with the food situation and restaurants not allowing dine in. Not sure what it's come to there yet. I don't think we will get a Spring Break now anyway with the time off from school. I'm not scared about the plane, we travel during flu season every winter. I wipe the stuff down excessively and wash our hands/alcohol wipe like a nutcase.

I’m not worried about flying either. If they let me enter and leave here, I would be gone right now and homeschooling my son from the Caribbean.

These poor countries were already suffering with all the natural disasters. Idk how much more Puerto Rico can take.

Just curious, for those of you cancelling trips, are the airlines refunding you or giving you credit?

I cancelled my Jet Blue flight almost 2 weeks ago and they were giving credits (Jet Blue Travel Bank). My friends canceled with Delta around the time I did and she got the refunded her entire amount right back onto her cc.

I'm in NC and they just now started closing all the beaches. I hope Florida closes theirs soon b/c too many dumb Gen Z's that are partying for "spring break".

My FL trip for next week, I received a credit on Southwest (good until the end of June 2021).

Our AA flight to Spain in May - right now they are offering a credit. As we get closer to the dates, I will see if we are getting credit or a refund.

Our flights within Spain - we have been provided a refund.

My Delta flight to SC - I am assuming it's a credit. I haven't looked at it really yet. I am assuming it's another credit, but I booked it with my Delta Amex so that may change things.
